22.01.2022 Workshop for the Breathing Conifer. I have begun my ambitious and inclusive project of building a 120 leaf copper sculpture that breathes. It will hang in the fernery of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney. I am building it with the help of a wonderful team of young people from Eastern Respite and Recreation, and the Come in Youth Centre. Here is Lucy working with me to make one of the copper "scales" that will form part of the kinetic sculpture. More pics to come from a very special day. I will continue to keep you posted on this project that means so much to me. Keep an eye out for the launch in March 2013. www.phillippa.com.au

19.01.2022 Ghost Wings Timber and acrylic vessels. These timber and acrylic sculptures are a collaboration between Phillippa and local Sydney wood turner, Graham Tilly. Midway through the residency, Phillippa learned that a large London Plane Tree Platinus x hispanica ‘Acerifolia’ was being felled at the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney. The idea behind this collection is the beautiful relationship between animals and plants - the acrylic feathers represent the wings of birds who once nested in the branches of the felled tree - the bowls and vases have been turned from the felled trunk.

13.01.2022 Only 8 weeks to go until I meet my wonderful team at the sculpture workshop. The creative workshop at the Royal Botanic Gardens (with 30 young people from Sydney) will include a wonderfuly diverse group! This project is all about giving an exciting creative opportunity to a group of young people who deserve to be included in more public sculpture projects. I will be teaching them, creating alongside them, learning from them. I can't wait. Thank you to Eastern Respite & Recreation, and to the Come in Youth Centre.
