Kent Town’s purpose-built 1974 Bureau of Meteorology would have made a great school STEAM Centre! Architect Jim Ward Commonwealth Public Works Dept. Why is it so hard to care for our significant Modernist buildings?

09.01.2022 The beautiful and socially-responsible Tika Tirka Student Accommodation was fortunate enough to win a Commendation in the local Architecture Awards program City of Adelaide Prize category last Thursday. Our sincere thanks to our client the SA Housing Authority, all staff at PPA, the contractors DLG Shape, our consultants TMK Engineers, Sonus and Outer Space. The project name means ‘stay, sit and learn’ in the Kaurna language. Twenty lucky regional and remote SA indigenous tertiary students will have a fully-supported accommodation option once their studies start up again. The project was envisaged as a template for a national program roll-out under the previous Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull. Photos David Sievers.
