20.01.2022 Here is a link to the latest Tasmanian Government Gazette gazetting the most recent decision to close bars, cafes, cinemas etc. This Gazette also provides for the lockdown of Aged Care Homes. Police Officer have now been authorised by the State Controller to enforce these closures under the Emergency Management Act 2006. Interestingly the closure of these venues was achieved through the Public Health Act 1997 and not the Emergency Management Act because the latter, Schedule ...1, only permits the State Controller to close public venues. The closure of places of public worship is arguably contrary to S 46 of the Tasmanian Constitution which protects "free profession and practice of religion, subject to public order".
