25.01.2022 FIGHT FOR FAIR: Please support our community's push for Townsville City Council to abolish its toilet tax. Businesses and community groups are being slugged $945 per toilet per year for toilets that aren't being used because of the pandemic. Visit philthompson.com.au/toilettax to sign the e-petition.
25.01.2022 REMEMBRANCE DAY: It's been great to mark this special day with a BBQ To Remember with Swiss 8 and the National Commemorative Service at the Australian War Memorial with my mate Gavin Pearce MP. 24.01.2022 I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Magnetic Island community stalwart and veteran Colin Fulford just a few weeks shy of his 104th birthday. I was fortunate enough to present him with a commemorative certificate and medallion just a few weeks ago. He served our nation with pride and my thoughts are with his family and many friends.

20.01.2022 COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS: It was an honour to be invited to speak at Sunrise Rotary Townsville's meeting this week and especially be presented with the famous red socks! Thank you for having me and for all you do for our community.

19.01.2022 A STUDY INTO A STUDY? State Labor has announced they will match our $30m for Big Rocks Weir if another business case stacks up. We've already paid for one which they got last month. They either don't trust us in the North to do a good job, or they don't have the money.
19.01.2022 The year 12’s at Townsville State High School EQ have arranged a ‘Miss the Hill’ event due to the cancellation of their senior events. This is a 24 hour event where the year 12’s will walk laps of the school oval to raise money for Aspire.
19.01.2022 LOCAL HERO: It was an honour to be asked to launch the latest edition of "Townsville In War and Peace", in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. This edition includes the inspiring story of Townsville's most decorated soldier, Captain Bill MacIntosh MC MM. Congratulations to author Geoff Hansen and Townsville Museum Inc.
18.01.2022 Astin laying down the law to Emery on who Dad’s favourite child is & not to step on her toes...
17.01.2022 TOILET TAX PETITION: David Esler from Billabong Lodge Motel is facing a $53,000 rates bill, 83% of which is Townsville City Council's toilet tax. This charge is crippling small businesses and community groups already struggling from the pandemic, so after months of inaction I'll be petitioning the Mayor to abolish it - as soon as their website is back up and running. You can register to sign at the link in the comments.
15.01.2022 Come join Keith Pitt, Senator Susan McDonald and I at our free event to discuss the importance of backing the mining sector.
15.01.2022 KITCHEN UPGRADE: The heart of every home is the kitchen and that's even more true now at Ronald McDonald House Charities North Australia. Today we unveiled the brand new facility made possible with a Federal Government grant. It'll be a great place to unwind for families after a long day at hospital.
13.01.2022 TAILOR-MADE HOME: It was a pleasure to be welcomed into Jasmin's new home, built by Youngcare Australia. They're doing a fantastic job getting young people with a disability out of nursing homes and into their own purpose-built houses.
12.01.2022 WORST PREMIER EVER!
11.01.2022 A future political cartoonist on my hands?
10.01.2022 CREATING JOBS: Reskilling and upskilling are going to be extremely important as we create jobs and recover. Today's meeting with Civil Safety - Safety and Training RTO #32381 and other employment sector businesses was one of several as we identify skills shortages and ensure we have the people to fill them.
09.01.2022 TRANSPARENCY AROUND SPENDING TAXPAYER MONEY IS NEVER A WASTE OF TIME. Mayor Jenny Hill
08.01.2022 ADF ARE NOT POLICE: It's a bit rich for the State Labor Premier to criticise the ADF for redeploying from the borders to prepare for disaster season, when she's known it was coming since the 7th of August. If she'd invested properly in her Police force, there wouldn't be a problem.
08.01.2022 RESOURCE RECOVERY: Great to catch up with Queensland Resources Council Chief Executive Ian Macfarlane today. Their latest report shows how the sector has done the heavy lifting for our economy through COVID-19 and supported thousands of jobs.
04.01.2022 NATIONAL CITIZENSHIP DAY: Today we celebrate the meaning and importance of Australian citizenship. What better way to do that than becoming a citizen! Congratulations to everyone at today's ceremonies.
03.01.2022 AMAZING MILESTONE: Congratulations to WWII veteran Ernie Hartley on being recognised by RSL Queensland for his 100th birthday a couple of months ago. It was great to be there to have a drink with Ernie who isn't showing any signs of slowing down.
02.01.2022 My daughter was happy to chat with Josh Frydenberg until he said he was a Melbourne Storm fan. Astin reckons Melbourne suck & go North Queensland Toyota Cowboys
02.01.2022 TACKLING DRUG ADDICTION: Fantastic to join the team at the Salvation Army Townsville Recovery Services to open the brand new Withdrawal Management Centre made possible with part of our $6m investment over five years. We're very fortunate to have this facility on our doorstep helping those who've made the important decision to turn their lives around.
