20.01.2022 On the Eve of Phils Anniversary, It is with great emotion and HOPE that we have decided to allocate the funds raised of over $80k from PDFAC 2016/17 to a $250k Leukaemia Foundation research project on Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL), based in Adelaide. This project is one we hold dear and will honour Phil’s final wish to make a difference to those with ALL and other blood cancers, and to make a significant impact in treating and ultimately finding a cure. The work i...s being undertaken by Professor Deb White at the Australian Centre for ALL Genomics, South Australian Health & Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI). Professor White hopes to introduce more personalised care for patients with ALL by incorporating the information gained through next generation sequencing (NGS) into clinical care and using this genomic information to help identify new targets and drugs for ALL. This support will make NGS testing available to an additional 100 newly diagnosed ALL patients nationally. In an Australian first, Professor White’s team will also investigate the effect of the gut microbiota in various stages of the disease from diagnosis, through therapy and beyond. These studies will assess the microbiomes impact on therapeutic efficacy, and to understand whether microbiota manipulation will improve outcomes for ALL patients.
