17.01.2022 MINOR FLOOD WARNING FOR THE NEPEAN-HAWKESBURY VALLEY Current forecasts have resulted in an upwards revision of flood heights within the Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley... (see Predicted Heights, below). 170mm of rain has fallen in the Nepean Valley, resulting in spills from the Nepean and Avon Dams. In the 48hrs to 9.00am today, up to 160mm of rain has fallen in the Wollondilly River upstream of the Warragamba Dam. Warragamba Dam is expected to start spilling overnight, and downstream flooding is expected to peak at minor levels. Rain has eased since 6.00am today and no significant rainfall is expected in the Hawkesbury Nepean and tributary catchments for the next few days however, showers are likely. Landowners should begin preparation for minor flooding. Pumps and other portable assets in low lying areas should be relocated. Livestock should be moved to higher ground. Latest River Heights: Nepean R at Menangle Br 6.1m rising 08:22 PM WED 26/08/15 Nepean R at Camden Weir 3.04m rising 08:23 PM WED 26/08/15 Nepean R at Wallacia Weir 1.02m rising 08:17 PM WED 26/08/15 Nepean R at Penrith 1.52m steady 08:17 PM WED 26/08/15 Hawkesbury R at Nth Richmond WPS 0.03m steady 08:20 PM WED 26/08/15 Hawkesbury R at Windsor PWD 0.55m steady 08:00 PM WED 26/08/15 Colo R at Upper Colo 0.74m steady 08:03 PM WED 26/08/15 Hawkesbury R at Sackville Ferry 0.3m falling 10:45 AM WED 26/08/15 Hawkesbury R at Lower Portland 2.41m steady 08:11 PM WED 26/08/15 Macdonald R at St Albans -0.06m steady 08:09 PM WED 26/08/15 Hawkesbury R at Wisemans Ferry 0.75m rising 05:45 PM WED 26/08/15 Revised predicted River Heights/Flows: Menangle Peak near 9m around midnight Wednesday with minor flooding. Camden Peak below minor flood level (6.8m). Revised provisional predicted heights (subject to review as the event unfolds): Wallacia Weir reach 5 metres around 3.00pm Thursday 27th August with minor flooding. Penrith reach 5 metres around noon Thursday 27th August with minor flooding. North Richmond reach 8 metres around 6.00pm Thursday 27th August with minor flooding. Windsor reach 6 metres around 9.00pm on Thursday 27th August with minor flooding. Other impacts are likely to include; Under these conditions, it is possible that bridge closure protocols may be initiated in preparation for closure if the forecast levels are exceeded. If these closures do occur, the bridges likely to be affected include Yarramundi, North Richmond and Windsor. Closure of Yarramundi Bridge, if it occurs, would cause isolation at Yarramundi from the eastern side of the Hawkesbury River. Remaining access can be achieved via Hawkesbury Road to Springwood. Closure of North Richmond Bridge, if it occurs, would isolate North Richmond from the South eastern side of the river. Remaining access would be via Bells Line of Road to the northwest, or via Freemans Reach and Wilberforce to the Windsor Bridge if it is still open. Closure of Windsor Bridge, if it occurs, will isolate Wilberforce and Freeman’s Reach and all areas north of the river from the southern side of the river. The only remaining access will be via Bells Line of Road to Bell, and back down the Blue Mountains via the Great Western Highway. The Lower Portland Ferry and the Sackville Ferry are likely to close. The Webbs Creek Ferry and the Wiseman’s Ferry may close, dependent on debris levels within the river. People who use these bridges and ferries regularly need to consider the potential impacts and make their travel plans accordingly.
