24.01.2022 Let’s talk Wix We hate Wix. There, we said it. This is not some, take it or leave it, not for me, kind of distaste for the platform. I mean, we seriously hate it. If you want to find out why we do, read more here https://www.phirannodesigns.com.au/posts/why-we-hate-wix/

24.01.2022 Who doesn’t love Koalas? They are cute and fluffy and iconically Australian (just don’t try to cuddle them). Sadly their numbers are declining, so it’s important that organisations like Koalas In Care Inc. (KIC) exist to look after them and help ensure they don’t become extinct. KIC is based in the Manning area and is run by a small group of volunteers, entirely funded by donations. Having a website that accepts donations, and spreads awareness is crucial to the continu...ed success of the organisation. When we designed the new website for them, we made sure to add a prominent donate button to both the header and footer. We also really wanted to showcase the koalas that KIC cares for, so there are lots of great images throughout the site, most of them are also captioned so you can learn the names of all the koalas and their stories. There’s lots of great information about koalas, their threats, environment as well as information about signing up as a member to provide ongoing donations so that KIC can continue to do the important work that they do. 24.01.2022 Phiranno Designs is excited to show off the newly redesigned website for Moda Latina We originally built Moda Latina way back in 2018. It was built the traditional way with a Shopify theme that we edited to suit the brand. But there is only so much you can do editing a theme, so it was time for a redesign! The new design is sleek and minimal with a distinctive brand colour. We’re using the Shopify Storefront API which lets pull the data we need directly from Shopify, but... build and host the site in the same way we typically do. The only thing we don’t handle ourselves is the checkout. We keep track of the users cart, and when a customer is ready to check out, we send them to a secure unique URL hosted on Shopify’s servers so the only we don’t even see a users payment information, keep our customers safe. We really love the design of this new site and hope you do to. Let us know what you think in the comments.

23.01.2022 We’ve got another beautiful website to show off today Blue Cow Gelato Blue Cow Gelato already had a well-established brand and their old website did a good job capturing that, so we decided not to deviate too much from that. Instead, we cleaned it up a little and expanded upon it. We wanted to keep the hero section on the home page as a sliding carousel, but we also wanted a sticky navigation at the top (so that you can easily find the page you’re looking for). Having t...he background filled in of the header with a solid colour all the time would have ruined the effect, so we wrote some code to detect if the user had scrolled down the page and only then, slowly fade in a background colour. We also change the height of the logo and the background colour of the phone icon at the same time. Changing these three things in unison makes for a pleasing effect. Accessibility is also a major consideration for all of our websites. Carousels that loop automatically (especially ones that are animated) can cause motion sickness for some people. Thankfully there is a setting these users can turn on to suggest we don’t show these animations in this case. We check for this on the website and respect that setting. The old site was a single page with some information and a phone number, we expanded the site to 5 pages, added a menu, contact form, custom cake ordering form, and a custom Instagram widget. Overall it feels like a natural progression of the site expanding and adding new features whilst staying true to the Blue Cow Gelato brand. We hope you like it, let us know what you think in the comments below.

17.01.2022 We’ve got another stunning website to show off Phiranno Designs have just launched the new website for Harrington Hotel The design features a lot of overlapping elements to add depth, with a unique colour palette that looks really fresh ... To add to the unconventional design, we’ve gone with 3 fonts a script font and a serif font for headings, and a sans-serif font for body copy. It really makes the design stand out without looking too busy. The primary function of this website is to display information, so we’ve made sure there is plenty of that. We’ve added a meals menu, a what’s on section, and blog with all the content coming from our headless CMS of choice (Sanity). There is also a custom Instagram widget to embed the 4 most recent posts. And finally, photography and copywriting are the finishing touches to really make this website shine Check it out for yourself at harringtonhotel.com.au and let us know what you think in the comment below

15.01.2022 Thanks to Gaming Machine Bases Australia for choosing Phiranno Designs to build their new website We set a very high standard for ourselves with every website we make. Things like; making sure we use the correct meta tags and link text to help with SEO, adding focus styles and aria-labels for accessibility, and adding an Open Graph image so that when someone links to the site on social media a beautifully designed graphic is shown alongside the site’s title and description.... Design is also hugely important to us, from making sure that we choose a nice font pairing, that the brand colours go well together, that the padding and spacing look good and are consistent. We add hover styles and transitions to links, buttons and menus we take this stuff seriously! For GMBA, to add a bit of personality, we’ve used a repeating SVG pattern to segue between sections and for the background of the contact section. We’ve also made the navigation semi-transparent and added a CSS backdrop filter to slightly blur the content underneath. All this adds up to a professional website that looks great and creates trust and engagement with the users of the site. If you want a passionate team of professionals to build your next project, why not give us a call?

08.01.2022 Last week we started adding a lick of paint to Morr The biggest change so far is the projects page, where we’ve completely redesigned the grid of projects. The project cards are now in a masonry layout, giving the page a more modern feel.... We’ve also ported the projects to come from Sanity, making it much easier to add new projects, and dramatically improving our build times. One of the things we love about Gatsby is the Gatsby Image component which lets us lazy load images with a eye-catching blur-up effect. It also generates images at different sizes so that someone on a mobile device (who has a smaller screen with and likely slower connection) doesn’t need to waste their bandwidth loading the full resolution image they will get a copy that is much closer to the devices actual screen width. The downside with this approach is that transforming all the images can take a while especially on image heavy sites like this one. Thankfully once again Sanity solves this issue for us. Not only is it much easier to add new projects from a CMS rather than in code, Sanity is compatible with Gatsby Image. All the image transformations are now done on Sanity’s servers, one time and then hosted on their CDN. Our build times are now less than half of what they used to be! Check out the new projects page and tell us what you think in the comments: https://www.morr.com.au/project
