22.01.2022 THE CRAVINGS ARE REAL Occasionally, your cravings are a genuine call from your body to get some much needed nutrients in. The main ones being Chromium, Magnesium and Zinc.... A chromium deficiency can cause intense craving for sugar. If you're having an insatiable need for sugar, try a handful of grapes instead. Beetroots and Broccoli are a good option, also Low Magnesium tends to make us crave chocolate. Raw nuts and dates are a great alternative And sometimes, our sugar and sweet cravings come from low levels of Zinc. Eat a big ass salad, full of as much green as possible As a side note, if you crave bread, eat high protein foods like meat, fish and nuts And for salty cravings broccoli, cheese or a chia pudding can help Curbing those cravings can be tough and sometimes you just don't WANT to eat a healthier option. Dude, THAT'S OKAY! Giving in a little is healthy mentally. Full restriction can make you want it even more. So if you have the control to eat a small amount, do it. Maybe try combing your sweet with a healthy option - choc dipped berries, as an example. If you're really struggling, have a glass of water, chew on some gum, go for a walk... just remember we are making choices. Choose the better option for you. One treat doesn't mean you have failed. It means you are human. Remember that your health relies on consistency, not perfection. Screenshot and keep this list handy for alternative snacks: Fruits: contain phytonutrients along with lots of health benefits Berries: taste sweet but are high in fibre and low in sugar Chia Seeds: are high in soluble fibre so you feel fuller for longer Cinnamon: because of its sweet taste and it is healthy goes great on- Yoghurt: high in protein and can control appetite and craving Dates: are very sweet and can fix your cravings Sweet Potatoes: sweet in taste and give a feeling of fullness Smoothies: are another healthy nutrient rich option, be in control of the ingredients

21.01.2022 Um HOW AMAZING IS PENNY?! That is a completely rhetorical question. She is the bomb diggity. BECAUSE...... Monday. Public holiday. Bodycombat. 9am. Everyone welcome! No need to book for this one

21.01.2022 PLEASE EAT CARBS Somewhere between keto, gluten free, fad diets and quick fixes, carbs have become the enemy. One of the 3 macros (4 if you include alcohol - but i will rant on that some other time) carbohydrates are an amazing fuel source, and therefore energy.... Let me be clear; cutting carbohydrates IS an avenue for fat loss. Because of their high caloric value, the elimination of carbohydrates will put most people into a caloric defecit and hence enable fat loss. The trouble is, while it works well for some, its not so good for others. And while it may be a great start, there is a lot of research into some longer term effects, particularly for females and our hormones. The most common being an increase in cortisol (stress hormone) which causes a whole list of issues further down the track. For performance, for gains, for fat loss or for health; Strict diets are not the answer. Finding the right balance in macros is. Macros are not a diet. They are simply the breakdown, or the makeup, of our food. And the right balance of these can get you to your goals in sustainable and healthy ways. Carbs are not the enemy. But there are certainly "better" carbs than others. Maybe something to consider when you're looking at a dietary adjustment is as simple as a switch in the TYPES of carbohydrates you consume.

17.01.2022 LETS TALK ABOUT IT . . And by IT I mean muscles on girls. .... There STILL seems to be a bit of a stigma around weights making you "bulky" . I am pretty passionate about this topic. Mostly because I think women should feel confortable no matter what their body shape is. But also because I have muscles and f*cking love them. . One of my favourite people to follow is @negharfonooni - she's a badass wizard of words and encourager of empowerment. She once wrote a piece about being BIG. Big heart, big laugh, big muscles... and it was profound. . Empowering women is a huge part of my job. Making them feel strong, capable, armed with knowledge, letting go of preconceived body ideals, loving the ability more than the measurements. And so I get passionate when someone has an opinion on how a woman should look. . . BUT heres the thing - getting big is hard. Growing muscles takes dedication and patience. Its not an instant reaction to touching barbells. Lifting weights actually boosts your metabolism, lowers your risk of injuries, improves posture, reduces stress and makes you feel like a total BOSS . Try it. I reckon you'll love it. . #musclesareforgirls #girlswithmuscle #strongwomen #empowered #phitgero #flex #bebig See more

09.01.2022 Every. Single. Body.

09.01.2022 I'll do anything to avoid cardio.... Even if that means adapting equipment from rower to rolly polly. Look, I know its good for me. And I know I should do more. I just dont LIKE it. So I prefer workouts that are fun. Or heavy. ... But this is the beauty of exercise - its so varied. You can experiment and play and test and see what you enjoy. Because guaranteed, if you enjoy it, you'll do more of it.

08.01.2022 We are fast approaching the festive season, and man, dont the supermarkets know it?! Everywhere you look is christmas. Its sickening. Food is a big part of Christmas. The long tables, shared meals, food comas... and whether you celebrate it or are a grinch like me, its hard to avoid the temptations of December shopping.... So heres my reminder/advice; It is NORMAL to be IMPERFECT. This is not to say gorging on festive treats until you vomit is okay. Nor is it to advise unhealthy plate portions and fifth serves... But really, just a reminder that food is a wonderful way to bring families together and you dont have to feel guilty for enjoying the treats. When you find a balance of living, there are no backward steps. Only forward. Good choices. Healthy mindsets.

07.01.2022 One of the most frustrating things for me in the fitness industry: Most gyms are in it for the money. Sometimes their job requirements actually say sales skills They have a constant stream of cheap offers and special deals. ... But freebies and specials and discounts don’t last. The health and fitness industry should be about improving lives, improving people's experiences while on their journey, not improving sales figures. Sales is not our focus. We will never make special discounts. We offer something BIGGER than discounted deals. We offer the little things A couch to chill while you wait for your workout buddy to show up. A coffee machine and kettle to make you feel cosy. We have towels you can borrow, not buy. A washing basket for those towels that we take home and wash. You can hook up to our wifi Then use that wifi connection to play your music in the gym. Our showers have shower gel and deodorant so you can freshen up And we have complimentary tampons and hair ties because these things happen. When you come in and see me at the front desk, you can ask for advice on all things exercise, health and fitness because I’m a qualified Personal Trainer. The chats and banter are free. And beyond all of that, we are family orientated. Family owned and family run. We understand the balance it takes. We care for the kids in creche like they’re our own. We notice when you skip a class. And we sure AF want you to feel welcome here

06.01.2022 Imagine if you gave your friends the words to feel empowered. Imagine if you spoke to yourself like this, too.

06.01.2022 From December 5, the WA Health Dept require certain businesses to maintain a contact register. Guess who falls in that category Thankfully, an app has been developed for ease of use with a simple QR code scan. I will, however, have alternative methods for registration of patrons if you choose not to have the SafeWA app.... Registration when you enter our business is mandatory. We will have our QR code on display at the front desk and ask that you do the right thing by the wider community and scan as you enter. If you have any questions, please reach out.

04.01.2022 No matter how far youve been before, you can do it again. And again. And again. All of that experience making you wiser. Go for it. As many times as you need.

04.01.2022 Can we have a quick chat about supplements? I think it's important to acknowledge that not everyone needs or even wants supplements. I'm talking protein, pre workouts, aminos, creatine, etc.... 3 main reasons people may consider supplements: increase protein intake assist with workout performance and recovery improve general health 3 other reasons: fat burning (This is such a shit term to say "increase metabolism and potentially assist in fat loss") to get bulk af (Not an easy task) coffee just doesn't hit the spot anymore (hello, preworkout) If any of the above apply to you, or you're just generally curious, we now have a pretty epic range of Supps here at Phit. If you are interested, I happen to know a bit about the magic - I'll share this info on my Phit Geraldton Supplements page. Give it a like

03.01.2022 SWAPSIES This is NOT a swap this for that post We've all seen the ones - swap your normal yoghurt for that gross greek stuff... Swap potato chips for slices of carrot that resemble nothing of a potato chip...No. ... This is a post of swapsies in a practical sense. It starts with your planning, moves to your thoughts and then becomes the practice. Swap your Planning process Meal plans aren't for everyone, but at some point during the day or week, you decide what to eat. Even if that is 10 minutes before you cook it. So, maybe your swap is to be more prepared. Maybe the swap for you is to change how you plan, by focusing on the protein source and building around that. Maybe the swap in your planning is simply to swap the meals you rotate. Swap your thought process It is easy to say, hard to do. Thoughts about "bad" food need to go. Thoughts about getting it wrong, slipping up, ruining all your hard work, giving yourself a hard time, ignoring your instincts, being too strict.... Swap out the stress of getting it right all the time for thoughts of progress and better choices. Know that one choice is just one, There are many others through the day and the more you choose to nourish and fuel and energise your body, the better you will feel. Swap your Practice When you do the groceries, be more mindful. Make the physical food swaps in the aisles. Don't be shy to take your time reading the labels. Swap out the packaged snacks for ingredients to make your own. Research recipes and try new things. SWAPSIES FTW

03.01.2022 How good does HIIT make you feel?! After, of course. During feels like death.... Lots of requests for more HIIT style training on our next timetable
