15.01.2022 Dear Valued Clients, As per recent implementation from the Terminals, and in conjunction with the RMS, there are a number of legal requirements that we must adhere to when transporting containers on NSW roads with a HAZ commodity. The RMS, NSW Police and the EPA are ever present in the Port Precinct checking over all HAZ containers to ensure that all carriers are compliant. Fines are currently being issued for up to $20,000.00 by the EPA and NSW Police for non compliance. Th...e chain of responsibility will ultimately be referred to, and as such we must all ensure that we are across the HAZ requirements to avoid being fined and provide for a smooth delivery process. The following requirements must be adhered to when carrying a container with a HAZ commodity on NSW roads: 1. An MO41 or dangerous goods shipping document must be filled in by the shipper and provided to us for any import or export container of HAZ commodity. An example of this dangerous goods shipping document for single line or multiple lines of HAZ has been attached for your reference. 2. All vehicles carrying HAZ goods must be equipped as per the safety requirements. This entails appropriate signage placards, fire extinguishers and HAZ a spill kit dependant on the line of HAZ goods being carried. PPE should also be present including breathing apparatus, chemical and thermal gloves, eye wash, flame proof torch, first aid kits, chemical suit and gas proof goggles. 3. All drivers and personnel handling an import or export container of HAZ commodity must have completed a HAZ awareness course. Failure to comply with these requirements will result in substantial fines. In accordance with the chain of responsibility, any such fine will be passed on down the line to the responsible party. Therefore, we all need to be aware of our specific obligations in relation to our role in the transportation of a HAZ container. Regards, Phoenix Freight Team.
