21.01.2022 Starting to dismantle my HQ race engine as it’s due for a freshen up. Pleased to find all the lifters are in excellent condition. The factory machining marks can still be seen. This engine has done 9 race meetings, I reckon that’s over 2000 racing km’s - plus any practice days and dyno sessions I have done with it.

19.01.2022 VW beetle towed in last week. Wouldn’t run. At all. Must have been sitting at some stage, the carby had plenty of issues from being gummed up. Problems I found:... Firing order mixed up Timing incorrect Carby had many blockages, had to unblock the accelerator pump circuit, various jets and air bleeds Swapped out the fast idle cam, as the one on this carby was so worn that the idle screw kept slipping down, so the fast idle was basically not working at all Added a 12v power wire to activate the electric choke (choke was jammed on initially) Replaced the fouled spark plugs (fouled from the jammed choke) Set ignition timing Tuned the idle mixture and idle speed Road test - all good! 08.01.2022 Been flat out lately!! Here is a job from last week, a big Volvo truck head in for a quick check over and service. The deck required 6 thou removed to clean it up and flatten it. These things are almost 13 litres in capacity and a touch over 1m long! And yes, it’s as heavy as it looks

05.01.2022 Here is a V8 Trimatic bellhousing. I gave it a surface grind for my old friends at Kirra Automatics - the box they are building is for Adam, who owns the 253 currently in my shop, that I have showed some of the progress on earlier. Apparently the warping on the pump face is a big cause of the pressure bleed off issues and the resulting poor performance and driveability of these boxes.
