18.01.2022 1st Grade T20 Champions!
17.01.2022 THE WEEKEND WRAP - ONE DAY ROUND 3/DAY 1 ROUND 2 There are often more ducks than we would like when we play cricket but ducks were all that was well suited to the conditions on Saturday as half our grades were unable to get on the field. 1st Grade will now play a 1-day match with Leeming next week after declining to decide the match with a canoe race on John Connell River. ... 3RD GRADE @ TEMPEST Leeming Spartan 103 SD Jassal 3/21 D Leeming 2/2 A Bocking 2/12 J Cant 2/17 Phoenix 4/48 P Gibson 21* 3rd Grade sent Leeming out to have a swing at Tempest and at 9/59 Phoenix were looking at a potential day 1 victory. But for the 2nd game in a row the last pair frustrated our 2nd XI and the match is now evenly poised after Phoenix lost 4 wickets in getting around halfway through the chase. Special mentions go to the curly veteran Leeming and young Canty who stepped up to 3rd Grade for this round and performed exceptionally well. 5TH GRADE @ ATWELL OVAL Phoenix 139 C Carley 66 L Smart 28 D. Farqhuar 15 5th Grade knew it would be a tough workout this round with almost half a team pulled up from ODH to fill gaps. The experienced seniors patiently saw off the new ball with help from one such call up - Farquhar sharing a 52 run stand with CC to set up a late assault from our latest Clubman of the Year and help post a solid total on a slowish ground. ODA @ BEELIAR Phoenix 123 SJ D'Souza 33 Piara Waters 0/29 Match Abandoned ODA got just over half a game on before a timely burst of rain encouraged the captains to call the game off with Phoenix in trouble. Our 4th XI now sit in 5th place and just a smidge outside the top 4. ODE also was a non-starter but this time it was the opposition refusing to play. Veteran Paul Smart amusingly ran a training session with our new recruits at Maddington's home ground instead. ODE sit in 6th with their first win eluding them to date. ODH technically got their 2nd win in a row when temporary table toppers Armadale offered up a handy forfeit to gift our 6th XI a sudden jump into 2nd spot. An interesting side note is Leeming's ODH team getting rolled for 22! Get on down to training to make up for the lost game time this week as with unusually limited places available your presence at training will greatly enhance your chances of getting a game!
17.01.2022 THE WEEKEND WRAP - CRICKET WEST CUP SEMIS, 2-DAY ROUND 4 & ONE DAY ROUND 7 Another huge weekend of cricket with 4 wins from 7 games over 2 days with 2 more still undecided. Let's cut to the chase and start with the last and biggest of those games on Sunday! 1ST GRADE CRICKETWEST CUP SEMI-FINAL...Continue reading
17.01.2022 THE WEEKEND WRAP - ONE DAY ROUND 4 / DAY 2 ROUND 2 More wins than losses this week with 3 wins and a rare tie from our 6 grades. 1ST GRADE @ JOHN CONNELL... Leeming Spartan 6/139 J Back 2/25 NJ Macek 2/46 def Phoenix 102 J Back 34 T Bartley 26 After losing the first day to rain Phoenix were sent in to bat for a 37 over match but never really got going with 3 runouts and the last 6 wickets falling for just 10 runs in a sub-par batting performance before Leeming got the runs 5 wickets down. Our top team now sits in 5th but only a fraction out of the top 4. 3RD GRADE @ TEMPEST Phoenix 103 P Gibson 36 TIED Leeming Spartan 103 and 5/80 G Peters 2/10 Our 2nd XI got the rarest of results after the last batsman was 'run out in controversial circumstances '. The 2 set batsmen overnight got past the halfway point of the chase but their partnership of 18 would prove to be equal highest. A desperate attempt to get the rookie #11 off strike last ball of the over resulted a rushed single and a fumbled run out that was eventually awarded after much debate. 5 wickets would be taken on the 2nd bowling effort for handy extra points but have some catching up to do from 7th place. 5TH GRADE @ ATWELL Jandakot Park 5/267 D Comben 2/52 SL D'Mello 2/53 def Phoenix 139 Our undermanned and 3rd XI had a tough day in the outdoor office as Jandakot made the most of the better batting conditions. A challenging climb from 7th place is ahead. ODA @ BEELIAR Phoenix 9/248 - G Perera 62 - D Rourke 47 - DR Hodge 46 def Perth Tamil 81 - D Rourke 4/16 - G Perera 3/8 - R Bartley 2/31 A dominant performance from the President's side this week with a new recruit proving to be an all-start all-rounder as the win was achieved with just 1 wicket down. ODA sit solidly in 3rd place and within a win of 1st spot. ODE @ MILLS PARK Kenwick 93 - SS Sandhu 5/9 - G Gill 2/15 - AP Singh 2/25 def by Phoenix 5/147 - R Gill 40* - K Singh 26 Our 5th XI registered their first win after knocking off a top-4 team from last season. A fiffer kept Kenwick quiet before the 3rd consecutive score in the 40s by the skipper saw Phoenix home with only 4 wickets down. The win puts ODE in 5th place. ODH @ BEELIAR Phoenix 8/136 - D Gregory 33 - MJ Bennett 28 - J Dowsett 18 - R Beck 11 def Willetton Crows 108 - S Eaglestone 3/18 - J Fowler 2/9 The veterans led the way for ODH to claim their 2nd on-ground victory of the season. A much improved fielding effort, including a screamer of a catch at slip by Chooky, was followed up by yet another solid knock by new recruit DG to set up some fun batting times for the middle order. ODH now sit 2nd with a top of the table clash coming up next.

16.01.2022 Another selection with too many players and not enough spots available. Keep your heads up if you are left out as we are rotating guys through as best we can. If you aren't playing get down to a game and support the club. Clubhouse bar and kitchen will be OPEN on Saturday night - have a beer or a feed before heading to Byford for the end of the 1st Grade match under lights. Also don't forget the 5th Grade T20 final at Maddington on Sunday from 12.30pm! ... http://mycricket.cricket.com.au//pag/public/rv/teams.aspx
16.01.2022 While it's never ideal to have players missing out on selection the upside was a well supported training night with an early naming of teams. Due to an injury 5th Grade will need a sub fielder at Atwell Oval so if anyone can assist please make it known and you will collect extra brownie points for future selection nights! http://mycricket.cricket.com.au//pag/public/rv/teams.aspx

15.01.2022 THE WEEKEND WRAP - ONE DAY ROUND 5 / DAY 1 ROUND 3 The first week without spare players meant the club depth was stretched and it showed with the 2nd tie in this strange season proving to be the best of the results in the one-day grades. 1ST GRADE VS COCKBURN @ TEMPEST... PHOENIX - 9/161 - J Back 34 - C Stewart 25* - W Moore 24 - A Bocking 19 - B Day 16 A solid 1st day by our top grade against the table toppers after Stewy chose to bat first. A typical Backy innings was followed by stout performances from debutante Rowdy and a number of others and while there were no big partnerships the typical Phoenix shuffle was thankfully not on show. 3RD GRADE VS COCKBURN @ DAVILAK PHOENIX - 10/77 - S Jassal 17 - P Kumar 16 Cockburn - 2/81 - P Kumar 2/15 Days don't come much tougher in 2 day cricket than losing on day 1 despite winning the toss. A tough 2nd day looms to hold off an outright loss. 5TH GRADE VS MADDINGTON @ BEELIAR MADDINGTON 9/175 (dec) - D Monaghan 4/42 - D Comben 2/24 - D Lalan 2/42 - E Fazio 0/19 PHOENIX - 2/2 Our first homegrown junior in 29 years bowled with an outstanding economy but our 3rd XI may feel like an opportunity was missed after Maddington recovered from 3/13. A good haul for the Phoenix skipper led Maddington to a tactical declaration and a couple nightwatchmen fell late in the day to questionable umpiring but the opposition will lose their 11A beanpole quick for the 2nd week. ODA VS WILLETTON @ BURRENDAH WILLETON - 7/142 - AJ Starling 2/25 - M Beer 2/26 def Phoenix - 10/92 - SJ D'Souza 26 - M Patterson 14 6 changes to the team were a few too many for our 4th XI as the President's XI were sent onto the field then fell well short in the chase but they still hold 4th spot by half a point. ODE VS PIARA WATERS @ SUTHERLANDS PHOENIX - 5/148 - SS Sandhu 69 - GS Brar 33 tied Piara Waters - 8/148 - K Singh 3/20 Our 5th XI have repeated the result from 3rd Grade last week in dramatic scenes. With 2 needed to win off the final ball Piara Waters took a 2nd run after the throw was in to the keeper but before the match was officially called. Yet another tight result for our team of mostly new recruits who now sit just 2 points out of the top 4. ODH VS ROLLYSTONE @ BEELIAR PHOENIX - 9/78(cc) - J Fowler 19* def by Roleystone / Karragullen - 6/133(cc) - J Fowler 3/18 Chooky found an unexpected role as key allrounder against the top of the table and his experience helped recover from 5/22 and bat out the overs. At 1/14 after 14 overs there was hope of a miracle but alas the experienced bowlers were used up. Our 6th XI is comfortably in 4th spot. Stay tuned for the announcement of the teams for the Casual Clash this Thursday at Tempest!
13.01.2022 A HUGE finish to the season coming up, headlined by 2 lots of T20 finals and our marquee event of the season! Get these dates in your calendar/diary/back-of-hand scribble - whatever is necessary to make sure you don't miss out! Make sure you support the club everywhere we go!
13.01.2022 PHOENIX SELECTIONS AND APPAREL Round 1 proper starts this Saturday so tonight is the final chance impress the selectors by bowling beamers at your potential captains. Teams will be announced at 8pm so if you can't make training come on down for a beer and a slice of pizza or 5. ... Meanwhile our diverse cricket community comes in so many shapes and sizes that this season the club has decided not to hold stock of clothing. The link below will take you to a portal where you will eventually be able to order your own playing shirts & pants, training shirts & track pants plus the popular polos & jumpers. For now only the hats are available but more items are in design so check back regularly. http://www.sportscentre.com.au//phoenix-cricket-club-pleas
13.01.2022 Congratulations to the Clubman of the Year for season 2019/20 - Liam Smart! Last season Liam co-ordinated the 2nd pitch at Beeliar Oval (the future Phoenix primary ground) as well as serving as Secretary on the committee and he designed the new season's Sponsors Flyer which has been highly effective. He started last season as ODE captain and ended it by being the only back-to-back premiership winner as part of the ODA title. Liam was wasn't available on Saturday so was awarded the trophy by 2018 Clubman of the Year Paul Smart on selection night. Well done Smartys!
12.01.2022 1st Grade make the T20 Grand Final!!!

11.01.2022 The Phoenix Cricket Club is proud to announce that today the 1st home grown junior in 29 years will play for the senior club - 14 year old Emmett Fazio will debut in 5th grade! Many thanks to Phoenix Beeliar Junior Cricket Club for helping develop this fine young talent and we are excited to see many more come through in the years to come! We also have another special selection - Aden Bocking (aka Rowdy) will make his 1st grade debut. Just rewards for one of the most comm...itted members of the top grade squad! Meanwhile after a month of players missing out we are strangely short a couple this week. Great opportunity to give guys a go who haven't got a game yet but if you can help out, even for half a game, please get in touch ASAP as the extra legs can be the difference between a win and a loss. http://mycricket.cricket.com.au//pag/public/rv/teams.aspx

07.01.2022 CULTURAL NIGHT - SATURDAY 6th February 2021. 5:00pm start. Make sure you’re there and bring your family and friends.
06.01.2022 THE WEEKEND WRAP - 2-DAY ROUND 5 & 1-DAY ROUND 9 2 strong performances, 2 unfortunate results and 2 fightbacks needed when the 2nd half of the 2-dayers continue next week. 1ST GRADE VS SJ BLUES @ BYFORD... SJ Blues 9/269 - G Perera 4/57 - C Stewart 3/63 Paulvin Pawlouse got a late call to make his 1st Grade debut and an early wicket to Backy got the side off to a great start. But from there the lighting fast outfield helped runs flow. 1st Grade will now need a to find something special in order to claim their 4th win. 3RD GRADE VS SJ BLUES @ TEMPEST Phoenix 104 - J Jago 34 SJ Blues 0/20 After remarkable run of almost 2 seasons without losing a toss GP finally lost one only to be sent in to bat with an 11B batsman. A tough 2nd day looms. 5TH GRADE VS FORRESTDALE @ BEELIAR Forrestdale 87 - A Gerovich 6/6 Phoenix 4/37 An incredible spell by Gero has put 5th Grade in pole position for this must-win game and despite losing a few late wickets there is still enough batting to come to more than finish the job next week. Don't forget 5th Grade are in the T20 final this Sunday 31st Jan from 12.30pm @ Harmony Fields in Maddington! Get out there and get around the lads ODA VS PIARA WATERS @ SUTHERLANDS Phoenix 9/126 - M Patterson 29 - J Julien 23 Piara 5/150 Another tough game for our 4th XI who now fall to 7th and are a full win out of the top 4. ODE VS PIARA WATERS @ BEELIAR Phoenix 146 - K Singh 31 - J Dhesi 22 Piara Waters 93 - K Singh 4/7 - AP Singh 2/16 - SS Sandhu 2/20 - MN Tariq 2/21 Another comfortable win for our new team who now have rolled into 2nd spot and eyeing off a home final. ODH VS KWINANA @ GILMORE Kwinana 9/117 (all out) - D Comben 2/20 - B Schenk 2/25 - D Gregory 2/27 Phoenix 10/116 - D Gregory 26 Games don't get much more frustrating than losing to a team of 10 by a solitary run as our strong batting team were unable to handle the rubbery pitch. ODH now drop to 3rd and need to change momentum after 3 consecutive losses (excluding a forfeit). No F15s or training on Australia Day Tuesday but the last round results are below: F15 ROUND 2 East Fremantle 4/166 Phoenix 2 - 10/48 Piara Waters 7/108 Phoenix 1 - 4/112 Don't forget to get your shirt orders in by Wednesday 27th or you miss out on the discounted rates! Get in touch with Frenchy or Stewy to secure your order
06.01.2022 TRAINING AND SELECTIONS There may only be 3 teams to pick tonight but for the first time in years Phoenix has too many players and not enough spots. It is a tricky situation so the committee has decided to rehash our official selection priority list for transparency: * 2-day grades picked on availability, form and potential... * 1-day grades to be selected based on the below preferences: 1) Notice of availability via Mycricket or selectors 2) Pre-paid payment status 3) Training attendance 4) Recent game form Put simply - if you are available for 2 dayers, paid up and training at least once a week you should get a game. A handy fiddy or fivfer on Saturday will also help but learning never stops and we still want training attendance to help build the positive culture at the club. Nowhere better to brag about your performances after all! And if helping get yourself a game wasn't reason enough to come to training then the pasta bolognaise with garlic bread on offer tonight from Rumbles cafe, Bibra Lake. for $5/serve from 7.30pm should seal the deal!
06.01.2022 THE WEEKEND WRAP Round 1 got off to rocky start for the club as all 3 one-day grades went down but all 3 two-day grades could be celebrating wins at the Last Season Wind-Up Event next Saturday if they fight hard enough. Before the scores a reminder to hit up the event link below then bring your party moves, a collared shirt & a lady if you have one to the club next Saturday night for our Casino-themed Event. You could win a door prize worth $250 just for rocking up! ... 1ST GRADE all out 167 v CBC @ Tempest After losing the toss and being sent in to bat our top team were well set at 2 down for 77. 2 pairs of wickets were a cause for concern but quick assault from senior "Junior" Rourke put 1st grade up to a solid total. - J. Back 41 * B. Day 24 - C. Rourke 29 3RD GRADE v CBC 9/219 (75) @ Karoonda Being a man down wasn't an ideal way to start the day but at 4/12 there was hope the shortage wouldn't count. CBC fought back but at 8/98 Phoenix were still on top only for a pseudo #11 to hit an unbeaten half century to present Phoenix with a stiff challenge next week. * J. Jago 2/28 (17) - G. Peters 3/51 (20) - P. Kumar 3/21 (13) 5TH GRADE v CBC all out 184 @ Beeliar CBC proved to be superior tossers as they won their 3rd flip of the day at Beeliar's #1 pitch. Wickets were hard to come by early but CBC collapsed with the last 5 wickets falling for 4 runs. The inspiring efforts of young Canty and the Doctor, who not long ago were more likely to be playing on the 2nd pitch for ODH, will now need to be backed up by the batsmen. * J. Cant 3/19 (11) - A. Albrecht 4/20 (7.4) - D. Comben (2/19 (11) ODA all out 112 v East Fremantle all out 138 @ Preston Point A host of regulars were missing from the 4th Phoenix team who took on East Freo's 2nd XI with the home side batting first. A solid bowling effort wasn't backed up by the top order in the chase but a fightback from 5/34 showed promise for the season ahead. - J.Smith 4/25 (7) - R. Bartley 2/42 (7) - J. Julien 3/22 (6) * M. Patterson 20 - W. Moore 47 ODE all out 118 (31) vs Leeming all out 163 (33) @ Shelley Park The new recruits for Phoenix had the tough task of taking on the ODE table-toppers from last season. 1 substantial batting performance was enough to get Phoenix into triple figures before points were salvaged by bowling out a strong batting unit. - R. Gill 47 & 2/23 (7) - M. Tariq 4/16 (5) ODH 9/140 vs Kwinana 1/163 @ Beeliar An entertaining 46 run stand was the highlight of the batting for Phoenix with a newbie and late call up doing the bulk of the run scoring. However the sluggish outfield seemed less of a hindrance to Kwinana's batters who coasted to the target with plenty of time and bats to spare. - D. Gregory 40 * P. Smart 1/33 (7) Congrats to the starred (*) names above who all got a free drink for performing and then coming back to the club on Saturday night - another round of Game Awards will be given out at the Event this week!
06.01.2022 A big thanks to Tai Butlee, Ben Day, Geko Savage and Nick Macek for helping set up and doing the morning stint at the Bunnings BBQ on Sunday. We all got there at 7:00am and Geko asked for a smoko break at 7:20am. Also to Jake Back, Tennasey Wybenga and Ben Mcgilvray for helping during the busy lunch period and keeping me entertained with their stories. They also would have eaten and dropped at least 20 sausages between them. 03.01.2022 A super week of availabilities means not everyone can get a game this Saturday. It's never easy not giving guys a game when they want to play. If you weren't named you can always support your mates by cheering them along (with a beer in hand if you want to make them jealous). Or you can just get dressed up early for the Wind Up! Don't forget to bring a spare collared shirt and get down to the club from 7pm for a cracker of a night on Saturday! Over $500 in prizes to be wo...n, heaps of food, cheap drinks and live music all night! http://mycricket.cricket.com.au//pag/public/rv/teams.aspx
02.01.2022 A message for all 66 that have paid for their windup ticket. The club should be receiving the money back from the Crown today. We did not receive the money back in regards to the DJ we had organized (we don’t lose the money, we use them for a future function with no expiry on it). The club executive encourages people to leave their money within the club and use it for next seasons fees, bar vouchers or club functions / pre season launch / end of season windup. We understand ...each situation is different so if you’d like a refund then the refund will be $128.00 per person (amount different due to the DJ money), please contact Stewy - [email protected] with your bank details so the transfer can be arranged. Hope everyone is staying safe and sane during the current situation.

02.01.2022 THE WEEKEND WRAP As a singing loaf of meat once said "2 from 3 ain't bad" but for round 1 that's a pretty darn good win ratio in the first ever round of SMCA T20 cricket with all 3 Phoenix contests going down to the wire against Cockburn. 1st Grade collected 2 rare diamond ducks as they almost fluffed a small chase but eventually won with 5 balls to spare. J. Back was the all round star with debutante S. Jassal also making vital runs before the all-too familiar Phoenix shuff...le saw 5 wickets fall in 4 overs with less than 30 runs needed for victory. Earlier Backy and skipper C. Stewart kept the pressure on Cockburn in the best bowling result of the day for the club. Congrats also to the Rourkes in the attached photo after young Jimbo hit the runs to level the scores in his 1st grade debut. Cockburn 8/110 (20) J. Back 3/17 (4) C. Stewart 2/20 (4) Phoenix 8/114 (19.1) S. Jassal 29 J. Back 25 3rd Grade The 1 that got away for Phoenix this week. Cockburn were kept to a reasonable total before C. Smith did his best to guide the the chase with the highest individual score of the round for the club. Unfortunately 8 runs off the last over proved to be a few too many under pressure. Cockburn 6/136 (20) P. Pawlose 2/7 (3) R. Gill 2/20 (4) Phoenix 7/133 (20) C. Smith 77 R. Gill 21 5th Grade 2 club legends graciously chose to sit out to allow some fresh recruits to debut for Phoenix and those good vibes helped Phoenix get a tight win. Life members C. Carley and D. Smith proved T20 isn't just a young man's game as they led Phoenix to a competitive total before J. Smith cut into the top order and D. Leeming let just 3 runs leak off the last over when 10 were required. Phoenix 9/121 (20) C.Carley 35 D.Smith 27 Cockburn 5/117 (20) J. Smith 3/14 Don't forget the T20 games are $20 (no concessions) and if you forgot to pay you can drop the funds into the bank account using the details below: Phoenix Cricket Club BSB: 306089 ACC#: 4182717
