25.01.2022 We have just released our national alerting functionality at https://bushfire.io. You can set alert zones anywhere in Australia and be notified when there is a ...fire incident or warning. Do you have family, friends, or interests interstate? We allow multiple notification areas, allowing you to keep an eye not just on your own area, but anywhere across Australia. After signing in, we also support multi-device notifications so you can receive alerts on whichever device you’re using, whether you’re at home, at work or on holiday. As always, let us know if you have any suggestions or things you would like to see improved. Our apps are available in the Google Play and Apple App Stores, or at https://bushfire.io

17.01.2022 Acknowledging that everyone is at different stages of recovery, we just wanted to share this link with you as a reminder that there are some companies going above and beyond to make your recovery easier. IF you lost your home in the fires between November and February (2019-2020) Austral Bricks are offering 50% off their bricks to rebuild, and FREE if your original home was built using their bricks! (T&C in the link) Please share this anywhere you think it could help someone... https://www.brickworks.com.au/bushfire-relief

17.01.2022 With heartfelt connections to the country around #Conjola - this is a wonderful project, community driven, community sourced. Let's show them some support to help them meet NYE deadline. Give what you can.

16.01.2022 While awaiting our DGR endorsement (since 17/2/2020) which will allow us to put in an e-Tender to provide housing relief, we've been spending a lot of our time inputting data to GIVIT - Goods For Good Causes to help the community close to us receive some assistance. I went out and sat and listened to what was needed individually and collectively. The discussions that consistently came up were about the massive loss of farming and lawn machinery. It's hard enough imagining sl...eeping in a tent or caravan in the middle of winter, let alone coupling it with having to wade through knee-high grass to pee in the middle of the night! Phoenix Foundations and GIVIT share a strong moral that recovery needs to be at the local level - supporting the community. SO rather than providing funds to a large a corporate in exchange for the donations, we supported a small local business - Tink's - Smarter Yards & Gardens GIVIT honoured our request and funded a lawn tractor to be purchased through Tinks and donated to the South Arm hall in the Nambucca Shire - to be loaned out to the community and managed by the local hall's committee. We are absolutely stoked to say that today, Tinks' delivered this to the hall free of charge, and the ladies of the committee have spent the morning taking it for a spin!!

16.01.2022 Journalistic coverage of #ausfire recovery stories needs to dig deeper than face level acceptance of this 'collaboration' between #SalvationArmy #minderoo + #NSWGovt - https://www.abc.net.au//charity-helps-fund-tempor/12382242 Supplying mining dongas that use petrol generator as a power source, requiring tenants to fork out substantial amounts of recovery funding to keep the thing running for base power, is not a viable or smart solution. The shelters cannot be used for >...2yrs under temporary dwelling constraints, are delivered to sites within politically expedient timeframes (see the responses to #EdenMonaro delivery timing by John Barilaro, who has previously been directly briefed on what's needed by our team). Delivered on a lease-back arrangement of $25k per year (presumably between NSW Govt/Minderoo, details are opaque), this needs scrutiny. As a NFP, this is our exact mission - helping people #BuildBackBetter - what if you started with integrating #renewableenergy as a core design principle? How might a structure be repurposed over time as people get back on their feet? We know structures like shipping containers have an important role to play, but this needs urgent review. What if that structure was instead used as a modest, building code compliant core structure that can then be built on over time as recovery funding allows? These are the very things we've been putting to the #BushfireRoyalCommission and working on with building code compliant, recovery oriented peers like Contain Yourself Australia.

15.01.2022 With so many people still undergoing BAL re-ratings and getting their heads around what rebuild might look like, there needs to be some accomodation of the impacts of COVID19 on planning, income disruption: https://www.smh.com.au//bushfire-victims-locked-out-of-mor

13.01.2022 We’ve recently been dealing with folks needing a slab or two to site donated materials. If you’re needing to get a slab down, here’s some great DIY tips.

11.01.2022 We're grateful for the opportunity afforded by the Royal Commission to contribute our perspectives and experiences on the 2019-2020 Bushfire disaster. Our submission was lodged this morning, but we're reproducing it on our website for transparency. A huge thank you to collaborators, communities and agencies we've had contact with, hope this covers some of the pain points we've seen from Contain Yourself - Australia, Tradies for fire affected communities, Crisis App, Ausfireh...ack, BlazeAid, The Shed of Hope Inc., Maddel, Laing O'Rourke, Rebuild Upper Murray the many Facebook groups we're involved in, communities we've visited or friends we've heard from in these places. There's still time to get your voice heard, but you need to act fast, as submissions close tomorrow. #Ausfires #AusFireHack https://www.phoenixfoundations.org.au//bushfire-royal-comm

08.01.2022 20 Generators, 102kg each, 10 hours of driving, delivering and assembling in the hot sun and we wouldn’t have it any other way What a mammoth coordinated effort between us, GIVIT, The Shed of Hope Inc., Nambucca Valley Council, the absolutely selfless community members across the valley, and a special mention to Adam (blue shirt) who messaged me one day and said if you ever need help give me a call and came to assist from almost 2 hours away at very short notice

08.01.2022 This video was shared to be watched as a task on my daughter's home school plan this morning. I've seen it before...but I still get goosebumps every time I watch it! #thekindnesspandemic Share it on your page too and create your own kindness boomerang today ... - Ellie

08.01.2022 Remember the bushfires? Survivors feel forgotten because of coronavirus http://www.abc.net.au//bushfire-recovery-victims-/12184918 Definitely not forgotten for us, as we’re preparing a response to the bushfire royal commission. Deadline is Tuesday this week.

07.01.2022 We're just giving a quick digital leg-up to a local NFP venture emerging in #BatemansBay if you're in the area, interested in getting busy with your hands with learning #opensource style Cabin builds - check it out at https://sites.google.com/pho/southcoastcommunitycabins/home whilst they get up and running.

06.01.2022 Interesting to note the partnership between Minderoo, NSW Govt and Salvation Army being covered in AM broadcast today. Whilst we're encouraged to see a more robust response to needs for shelter, we think questions need to be asked about both the suitability and footprint of a #recoverypod - posed these questions back in early March2020: https://www.phoenixfoundations.org.au//options-for-recover Stop and consider what an alternative to a petrol powered generator might look like as your base power source. Now is the time to be reconsidering what a #renewableenergy mix might look like - #solarandbattery is something that needs a closer look.

04.01.2022 Entire communities are still suffering from high-stress levels, emotional burnout and heavy thoughts since Black Summer. Today Lifeline North Coast - NSW are delivering a Psychological First Aid training program to grow skills of Mid North Coast community groups and members who are providing the support and assistance. It is an online program using trauma-informed, strengths-based practices to support us in supporting the people who need our help. Psychological First Aid tra...ining reduces distress, and supports short and long term recovery in both the people providing assistance, and the people receiving it. These skills are necessary when you’re in a position in which people put their trust in you as a reliable individual or organisation providing them with the assistance you’re offering. We hope our Statement of Attendance in this course shows our dedication and genuine heart to help communities heal through not only Black Summer, but also future events. We’re here for you. We’re here for the long haul.

03.01.2022 Such a beautiful #regeneration message in this. Take the time to take it in. Nice to see #nambucca valley get a cameo in it. https://vimeo.com/403485047

03.01.2022 Relieved to see the #bushfirerc report is finally published. Our team are working through reviewing the recommendations and relevant sections, but we can see the recommendations have largely addressed many of the points we made in earlier submissions. There's so much to do. https://www.abc.net.au//nsw-welcomes-final-report/12830980

01.01.2022 THANK YOU ABC Australia for profiling the disaster grants and expenditure profiles of different LGAs across #AusFire impacted communities. We were delighted by the transparency shown by Nambucca Valley Council as they invested the disaster grant $ for social impact, but became increasingly concerned over time at how other councils were spending on side-projects. Good to have a side by side comparison, had just made comment on it in a supplementary submission lodged this morning to the #bushfireroyalcommission. Great to have some light shone on the patterns: https://www.abc.net.au//nsw-local-councils-bushfi/12247998
