For any powerful moment we need stability or a strong foundation and that begins with the feet . Whether we are squatting, running,jumping or dancing the feet keep us grounded and stable allowing us to get our power to the ground or to aid in absorbing our weight when we land. ... So many patients have poor foot control which affects their balance, stability and exercise performance. Particularly during squats, deadlifts, and lunges, if the foot over pronates it causes big force production problems at the ankle, knee, and hip. So how do we get a stable foot? The foot is quite dynamic, having more than 25 joints , which means a lot of movement and dexterity. Therefore it’s integral to have a stable foot when we want to squat, jump or run so that we don’t lose power through unwarranted joint movement. Now back to the squat... what are your feet doing when you squat?? The foot needs to remain somewhat stable while maintaining a natural arch but still having contact with the ground at the ball of the foot (base of big toe), the base of the little toe and also the heel. If you can’t achieve this, it might be time to do some foot proprioception and strengthening exercises so you can get your power to the ground. 13.01.2022 TARGET - DEDICATION - RESULT Mhari set her mind on making a 120kg deadlift. She put in the hard work doing one small group PT, one single PT with @gabkukla and then did 2 other sessions on her own every week and achieved her goal!! No excuses! No regrets! It always brings a smile to my face when people put in the work and get what they deserve.
