17.01.2022 NBN FTTN what is it and how you can get the most out of it. FTTN has now been deployed In large swathes across Perth and indeed Australia. It utilises your existing Telstra phone line back to the node which shortens the line length so VDSL can be employed to gain higher speeds than ADSL could. It effectively moves the exchange closer to your house. The problems which slow down VDSL are still line length ,unused telephone points in the house or business, security alarm system...s which are still connected to the Telstra line, central splitters and old telephone cable inside the premises which may be rotten ,chewed or wrapped around power cable etc. The most effective way to speed up and stabilise your FTTN connection is replace cabling with a single cat6 cable from the entry point of the premise directly to the modem. I have not seen speeds and stability ever go backwards with this approach. Cost to replace cabling for single storey dwelling would be $180 Inc GST.
