25.01.2022 Upper bust shot of bushranger Harry Power, ca. 1870 Henry Johnson, a.k.a. Harry Power was born in Ireland on May 1819 and grew up in Lancashire, England. There he joined peasants in their struggles against the British troops. He was convicted and sentenced to transportation to Australia in 1840 and freed in 1848. He was arrested for several crimes and eventually sentenced to 14 years in Pentridge Prison in 1864. He escaped and became a Bushranger (an outlaw living in the bush...) During this time he had an assistant who took care of the horses - the 16 year old Ned Kelly. In 1870, Ned’s uncle betrayed Harry to the Victoria Police and was captured while in Kelly property. He was released in 1885 and worked as a tour guide. In 1891, while fishing in the Murray River he fell in and drowned.
