25.01.2022 Sports Injuries! Summer is almost here and with it comes an increased risk of a sporting injury Luckily if you know what to do immediately afterward, you can drastically reduce your recovery time ... P - Protect the area from further injury - don't continue playing and use a support/taping if you know how R - Relative rest - don't continue playing or run a marathon for a day or two, but don't stay in your bed either I - Ice - On and off regularly for the first 48 hours, especially if there's lots of swelling C - Compression - use a bandage of tubigrip to help manage the swelling E - Elevation - Raise the body part above your heart to help stop swelling gather at the ends of the limb Anti-inflammatories, such as Ibuprofen/Neurofen can also be helpful in the first 48 hours but don't take for more than a few days. Lastly, it's really important to keep the joint/area moving. Don't be scared to gently move it, you won't harm it any more!

22.01.2022 Getting to 10,000km As you all know I had a minor mental collapse on only day 2 of a 21-22 day attempt. I have kept riding, but only in a limited sense. By the ...end of 21 days I should have clocked up around 5500 - 6000km. But I’d like to make the completion of this attempt a memorable team and community effort rather than an individual effort and so I am hoping you could join me. Cyclists of any level can ride and log your kilometres with us either via our Strava group, message me your kilometres or manually record them at the IGA at Mt Cotton (Local cyclists we’d love to see you include the IGA at Mt Cotton as part of your ride). In Southern Africa my all time favourite term is Ubuntu which translates to I am because together we are. 19.01.2022 Achilles Tendinopathy Tendinopathy occurs when the load applied to the tendon exceeds it's capacity This can happen during a single session or over a period of time Factors which can increase the load on the Achilles tendon include sudden changes in training such as distance/pace/elevation/resistance or new footwear ... Usually rest alone doesn't fix the problem, it will likely return when you return to exercise Building the strength of the tendon through a gradual loading program will help prevent re-injury Book an appointment and get back to what you love
