23.01.2022 Posture is how a person carries his or her body in respect to a healthy and unhealthy alignment. Just like how a person stands or sits with shoulders and back relatively straight or hunches our posture says so much about us especially with our health. Stance, on the other hand is the manner or pose in which one stands. It also says a lot about how our emotions and how we feel. A simple crossing of the arms and of legs would definitely show how our emotions impacts our stance.... So better check your posture and mind your stance! The way we carry ourselves shows confidence and our personality as well. Please contact us at www.physiofirst.net.au for posture and stance correction and advice.

22.01.2022 Everybody sweats. During exercise and other physical activities our bodys temperature increases pushing sweat or perspiration to occur which keeps our body cool. Sweating does not just indicate healthy circulation, removes body toxins but also speeds up healing. Sweating increases our metabolic processes and thus stimulates our immune system. It is our bodys way of healing itself when you are sick and injured.... Time to get down and get yourself a good and nice sweaty exercise!

15.01.2022 Lower back pain, what does it mean? Lower back pain is an extremely common problem assessed and treated by physiotherapists on a daily basis. It is estimated that around 80% of the population will experience lower back pain in some form during their life. It is a far too common occurrence for people to panic and assume the worst when they experience pain in their lower back, when in fact the prognosis for a diagnosis of acute non-specific low back pain is excellent. An ind...ividuals attitudes and beliefs towards their lower back pain will directly affect their recovery and outcomes. Many common myths that negatively affect a persons beliefs are: * That levels of the human spine can be out of place. * Our muscles can tie into knots. * Severe pain must mean severe damage. * Exercise and movement is bad. The human back is a strong and stable structure designed withstand significant amounts of force and exertion. The structures of our spines are supported by strong muscles and ligaments which thrive on movement. Passive manual therapy can be extremely effective is assisting recovery from acute lower back pain when complimenting movement and exercise. It is important to stay active and have a positive mindset when experiencing acute lower back pain. If you do experience acute lower back pain it is important to seek treatment from a physiotherapist early. Statistics show the majority of people will show significant improvement within 2 weeks of treatment. Our staff at Physiofirst are experienced in the education and treatment of all back pain conditions and prescribing specific individualised treatment programs which will best assist you in achieving a full recovery. 14.01.2022 Rehabilitation plays an important role in your recovery. You naturally want to take the necessary precautions to prevent the same injury, or a further one, from happening again. This is an important motivation to strengthen the muscles of, or around, the injury as it heals. A physiotherapist will evaluate your injury and level of progress and give you therapeutic exercises to do at home. Every time you go for a follow up treatment, the treating therpist will measure your level of improvement and accordingly increase or decrease the intensity or number of exercises they give you.

14.01.2022 Do you have a stiff or sore neck? Do you also suffer from headaches? It's usually no coincidence these symptoms present to us very frequently. The reason for this is often due to somatic referred pain. Somatic referred pain is pain that presents in one area of the body but is caused by another structure such as muscle, joint, ligament or skin.... As an example the large muscles in our neck (the traps) are supplied by the same nerve that supplies sensation to the skin of our scalp and part of our face. Therefore a tension, stiffness or any other issue in the trap muscles can lead to pain in the back of the head, temple region, eye or eyebrow pain or sinus like pain - all caused by the neck! Physio is used to reduce the tension in the neck muscles, reduce stiffness in the joints of the neck and we also educate on how to improve posture and take pressure off the neck. So what can you do to reduce neck related headaches? 1 - improve your posture. By sitting up straight and not slouching we can reduce the pressure on our neck by around 70%!!! 2 - Stretch the neck muscles. By gently tilting the head to one side you can stretch the larger muscles around the neck, reducing the chance of the same muscles referring pain into the head area. 3 - Keep you neck moving. The joints of the spine, don't like being static. Turn and rotate your head and neck, look up and down slowly and carefully and don't get stuck in front of a screen for too long! 4 - See your Physio. We can always give you the right advice whilst also providing a comprehensive assessment of the neck and shoulder region to provide the best hands on treatment for your needs. Book now if you have a suspicion that headache might be coming from your neck! The first 5 bookings from this ad receive a free ice/heat pack and foam roller. http://ow.ly/KrYB3055TjP

13.01.2022 Whether you're exercising professionally, for health and fitness or for fun, you will probably find you are spending a lot time on your feet. ITB Syndrome is the second leading cause of pain and the third most frequent lower extremity injury in long distance runners. The main symptom is pain is experianced on the outside of the knee.... Another commonly presented injury is Patellofemoral Pain Syndrom (PPS), also known as 'runner's knee' or 'jumper's knee'. Pain experienced in PPS is felt in the front of the knee, around the kneecap. The best approach for treatment is to - Rest - Ice - Soft tissue massage - Strengthening Check out our recent blog post for further information on these two commonly presented injuries. http://ow.ly/k1WS306SZxb

11.01.2022 The shoulder is the most versatile joint in the body. However, it is an unstable joint because of the range of motion allowed that sometimes results to pain. Shoulder pain can be caused by minor injury, bad posture or an underlying health condition. These factors are a common symptom in primary care but could gradually grow and worsen. Are you experiencing such pain? Visit us at www.physiofirst.net.au and book a time for your best physiotherapy experience.

09.01.2022 Its not always fun to be sweaty, but working up a good sweat every day is good for your health. Sweating is our body's way of discharging body heat that comes from our metabolism and moving muscles. Remember that sweating too much would mean a lot of body liquid has been dispersed from us that could result to mineral imbalances. Remain hydrated and drink a lot of water! It'll help almost all parts of human body to function efficiently.
