23.01.2022 What does a Sports Physio do? At Physio Fitness we have both Musculoskeletal Physio’s and Sports Physio. Over the next few weeks we will showcase what Joe, our Sports Physio does and how Sports Physiotherapy can you. Sports physiotherapy is the management of acute and overuse sporting injuries and impairments (including post-op), with the primary goal of returning the individual back to their sport or physical activity as soon as possible with no chance of re-injury or pain ...recurrence. 16.01.2022 Want to get your single leg RDL better? Well here’s our little tip for today. Start off with doing SLRDL supported by holding a bar or rig. This will take out the balance factor and allow you to focus on the strength to get some posterior chain conditioning done and give you something to work with. Couple of tips:... 1. Hold the bar mid way down so you don’t skew your body when you drop into the movement 2. Slide your hand when you get better to give you less holding on and thus a transition into not holding as in a traditional SLRDL. If this gives you better motor programming and knee control in the movement, then move towards a normal SLRDL, then add lateral bands and BOSU to challenge the stability component. 14.01.2022 We are back in the clinic this week after a little holiday break and now flat out with patients... so to kick off 2021 here is a video for all those who are struggling with their external rotation ROM when they are up in the shoulder press position - what we call Shoulder 90/90. This restriction or loss of movement at the outer range is pretty damn common after a chronic frozen shoulder, rotator cuff surgery, dislocations or a simple tendinopathy. What we are trying to ...do here is replicate for home or gym what we do in the clinic - getting a posterior glide on the humerus and a stretch load into external rotation. You will either need a rig in the gym or some sort of set up at home (if you can manage that!) Doing the same type of mobilization for a rehab program accelerates your gains in between your PHYSIO appointments. You will need one thick and one thin 41 powerband and a barbell or similar item to block the humerus / elbow (this is the crucial part that many fail on). Having the arm blocked creates the leverage effect just like a therapist’s knee does when using the seatbelt technique like I show in one of my previous videos (see insert). Pad out the bar, get the tension and timing right and you will see some good changes happening! We get our powerbands from Astir Happy New Year from us. 02.01.2022 Part 1 of our 3 part series on Thoracic Spine mobility and strengthening. My team and I have brainstormed the most effective and essential exercises that we give our clients for homework - outside of the treatment room and put it down on paper over 3 videos, to help you understand and do the rehab exercises properly and make them effective. The essential part is working on the actual anatomical function of the thoracic spine and not just making stuff up and stretching a sore... or tight bit. And remember the lungs and ribs are the thoracic spine so breathing is key here! Part 1: Rotation mobility 1 Book Openers / Bow and Arrow 2 Oscillation Rotation Sitting + Pole 3 Oscillation Rotation Standing + Pole Stay tuned for Part 2: Extension Mobility
