14.01.2022 Hard to believe this is still happening in 2019. Not an Australian case. Young male with 6 month history of low back pain that has been unresponsive to physiotherapy and osteopathy treatment consults a chiropractor. The patient has x-rays taken and is presented with the images below. He is told "There is your problem: your spine is out of alignment. Your C2 is 4cm forwards and your L1 is almost 3cm forwards. Your spine needs to be manipulated back into alignment." Interesting point is that the patient reports a positive response to his initial treatments. #physiotherapy #physio #backpain #corrimal
11.01.2022 Something very interesting came up on my Instagram feed today. A SPONSORED story (i.e an advertisement) from a Physiotherapy clinic nowhere near me. It was asking for donations to be made to a fund to enable one of their Physiotherapists to attend a large Education event. The "guilt" line is "we are raising money to help people suffering in pain!" Is it me or is the way to help people is to fund the course attendance yourself like most people and clinics have done for the p...ast 100 years? If the course is that important, find a way to pay for it yourself! Or are you going to offer free services as a result of this subsidised training? Is asking patients to donate to allow for professional development now going to be a standard practice? Lot of questions about this one! #physio #physiotherapy #physicaltherapy See more
07.01.2022 Reading stories like this always concerns me. A simple fall somehow produces 2 years of marked impairment of function: this shouldn't happen! So the question is why? Was it the lure of the $$ payout that exacerbated the symptoms and level of disability? Was it the situation that the person saw a doorway to retirement? Was it a failing of the health system that did not adequately manage this patient? Such things as reliance on medication only (and overuse of opioids), incorrec...t use of imaging and its interpretation that caused catastrophising, lack of active treatments? We won't know from this story, but it does represent a failed outcome. https://www.smh.com.au//the-star-ordered-to-pay-out-more-t #physio #physiotherapy #physicaltherapy #backpain #nslbp #therapy #medicine See more
02.01.2022 I am consistently amazed that various Australian health professionals still either ignore, or are not aware, of the advertising restrictions imposed by Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency - AHPRA on Australian Health Professionals. Knowing your registration requirements should be a fundamental tenet of being a health professional!
