We remain vigilant following the advice of the Australian Department of Health and the Australian Physiotherapy Association recommendations and our operations continue as normal. Like many Victorians, we know you may have concerns about Covid-19, so we would like to take a moment to share the exis...ting and added measures we have in place to maintain exemplary standards of cleanliness and hygiene. - Increased Infection Control protocol awareness and education of all Physiohealth staff - Employees regularly wash and sanitise hands: in between each patient treatment, when going on and returning from breaks, before and after eating, after going to the bathroom, after handling money - Increased cleaning and sanitising of all surfaces and equipment including treatment beds (after every patient), reception desks, phones, keyboards, door knobs, treatment aids etc. - Increased hand sanitiser availability to staff and patients at reception desks and gym areas - Single-use towels and products in use instead of linen and cloth products wherever possible - Reduced contact where appropriate - Staff advised to not work if displaying any cough and cold symptoms and to stay off work until symptoms resolve - Signage in clinics advising patients of infection control measures - active steps taken to ensure social distancing where possible. Including reduced usage of waiting rooms We ask that patients notify us prior to their arrival at the clinic of any recent international travel or the presentation of the following symptoms: - Cough - Fever - Shortness of Breath - Sore throat We will continue to monitor advice from government and regulatory bodies throughout this concerning time. Working together we can continue to achieve your rehab goals whilst keeping the community safe. Thank you for your understanding during this most challenging of times. 14.01.2022 Back Pain comes with many causes to many sources but two common sources are 1. Facet Joints 2. Disc Facets Joint are the joint between two vertebra stacked on top of each other. They can sprain, like an ankle or a finger. The difference is they are surrounded by slabs of muscles. ... This muscle spasms, restricts movements. You then experience pain in all directions. Supporting this muscle will encourage them to relax, the spasm settles and you can focus on restoring movement and function, exactly like an ankle sprain. Disc injuries often present more suddenly, there can be a movement within the structure that in some bad cases cause pain down the leg, nerve irritation and loss of function. These injuries also cause muscle spasm and very similar symptoms. Again once the initial pain is under control our aim is to restore function. Disc injuries are likely to take a little longer to recover, however if you feel like you suffered a disc injury dont fear. With a strong exercise program we are able to make an impact on your range of motion, strength and overall function. 11.01.2022 Analysis conducted by Injury Surveillance and Analytics team at IQVIA, using data gathered from the NBA injury reporting found; that players that suffered an ankle sprain increased their risk of further ankle injury by 41% within the following year. This pattern of increased risk applies to BOTH the injured side and the non injured side. When youre moving through your ankle rehab be sure to complete any single leg activity on both sides, with the same intensity, and the sa...me focus. Any ankle rehab will generally involve a combination of four stages: Mobility - after a sprain there is a reduced range of motion for various factors. It is important to address those factors and restore movement. Activation - The presence of pain following a sprain will dull the responsiveness of the muscles to voluntary movement. This control needs to be restored. Proprioception - Damage sustained during a sprain often reduces the ability of the ankle to know its location in space. With practice though, these functions can be rehabilitated. Strength - Having the strength to maintain good ankle posture as well as correct any irregular ankle posture is important to prevent against further injury #physiohealth See more

01.01.2022 On a recent British Journal of Sports Medicine podcast Ass Prof Daniel Bellevy from the institute of physical activity and nutrition at Deakin Uni went into detail regarding their study into Non- Specific Chronic back pain. This is pain that has lasted more than 12 weeks. It effects up to 16% population and has the greatest cause of productivity loss world-wide. In 90% of cases there is no clear diagnosis BUT a key finding found that the diagnosis wasn’t as important as the... type of activity you do to get better! So, if you’re feeling down and out because you can’t seem to find out what is happening with your back, know that a guided program involving progressing exercises will, in most cases be the best thing for you, regardless of the diagnosis. #physiohealth
