25.01.2022 This week we saw a few ankle sprains and people with foot pain. One of the key things to maintaining healthy feet is the ability to shorten them to grip the ground. It helps with balance and force absorption. See if you can do it without pulling the foot up (top ankle muscles) or toe clawing. #anklesprain #plantarfasciitis #health #physiotherapy

21.01.2022 TAKE IT OUTSIDE P2. Following on from our post earlier in the week, some things are impossible to properly assess in the constraints of a room e.g. running. Liz came into the clinic to see us with pain in her knees when running. Upon assessment in the clinic we found that her range, and strength were great, and were unable to reproduce her pain. It was only after taking things outside we were able to properly assess her running form.... Jon found that she was running quite loudly - with long strides, and hitting the ground with her heels. With some cueing of staying light on the toes and shortening her strides we were able to improve her form and decrease her pain.

Whilst this can be great advice if there is an acute injury, it’s rare that we should avoid it forever. Often times we require gradual loading below shoulder height, then shoulder level, then above shoulder height in order to be able to do things like hang the washing, reach into high cupboards, or do overhead exercises at the gym....
