25.01.2022 I sprained my ankle! Shell be right? A blog by Physiotherapist Pierre Joubert. As Physios we often hear people say things like. I rolled my ankle, but I did no rehab on it. I injured my ankle in soccer and its never felt the same. I have rolled my ankle three times and now its become very weak, making it hard to play sport.... Ankle sprains are the most common sports injury and have the highest recurrence rate of all injuries. Statistics show that 1/3 athletes develop long-term ankle instability. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that you follow through with the needed rehabilitation process. Exercise therapy can reduce the risk of re-injury by 42% (Doherty et. al 2016). Rehabilitation is a great way to avoid further injuries. It is never too late to start with the rehabilitation process of an ankle injury. It would obviously be more beneficial if the rehabilitation process starts within the acute phase of your injury. Here is a link to a video on what Exercise Therapy specifically for a soccer player could entail. Video by the Physio Network and Johnny Wilson. https://www.facebook.com/266801410502120/posts/805611036621152/ If you have any enquiries or are in need for Physiotherapy management please call us at Physio on Ross via 07 4728 2116 or book online via our facebook page or website www.physioonross.com.au

21.01.2022 As you are aware there have been more restrictions enforced on businesses to manage the spread of Covid-19. At present Physio on Ross is still open for business, but we are not confident that we will be for weeks to come. Many of our patients, especially post-operative clients, have bought their upcoming Physio reviews forward. If this is of interest to you, please make contact on 4728 2116 or see what appointments are available online on our website. Should the government en...force closure of physiotherapy practices we are in the process of setting up TeleHealth (Video Conferencing via Zoom) to continue to provide care without direct face-to-face appointments. We will have more info on this should conditions change. Best wishes to all our clients and their families at this time, especially those with health and financial difficulty. If you have any concerns or questions, please make contact.

20.01.2022 We at Physio on Ross would like to help you cope at home! Working at home changes a lot of things, so if you're struggling with posture while working, lounging on the couch, or can't seem to get rid of that 'text neck' - comment below! We'd be happy to share suggestions and some stretches that are tailored to your needs over the coming weeks.

20.01.2022 How often do we manage injuries this way: "She will be right mate!" OR "I am just gonna tough it out!" We often hear our clients saying: "I thought I will just see how it will go, but it never got any better, it probably has gotten worse." When it comes to sport-related or general musculoskeletal injuries we should perhaps think differently. When you get an injury and the symptoms last for more than 3-4 days and are not easing up it would be beneficial to have it reviewed by ...a Physiotherapist. Most of your post-exercise delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) only lasts for 24-48 hours. When our car gets a rattle or an odd few lights appear it is normally an indication that something is wrong. This generally means after a few days that we should get it checked or it might get worse/breakdown. Injuries not managed well can have longer-term detrimental effects, with poor outcomes and ongoing disability. Early treatment and implementation of preventative strategies could set you up for a quicker return to activities and decreased risk of re-injury. Maybe it's time to get that niggle or ongoing painful problem checked and managed properly. Rest is not always the answer. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to call us at Physio on Ross.

13.01.2022 "I HAVE BACK PAIN! " A Blog by our physiotherapist Pierre Joubert Are you suffering from back issues? Well you are not alone!!... Back problems are a range of conditions related to the bones, joints, connective tissue, muscles and nerves of the back. Back problems are a significant cause of disability and lost productivity. Estimates from the Australian Bureau of Statistics 201718 National Health estimate about 4.0 million Australians (16% of the population) have back problems. It is estimated that 7090% of people will suffer from lower back pain in some form at some point in their lives. Pain is generally the main symptom in most back problems. Back injuries were the 2nd leading cause of disease burden overall in Australia 2015, accounting for 4.1% of Australias total disease burden. All these statistics indicate that it is a big issue so what can be done? Well firstly research has shown some general trends which most back injuries seem to follow. (Please note that there are still multiple variations and not every person will follow this exact trend especially if there are separate complications.) 1. Irritable phase: 0-1 week - generally reduced activity levels with difficulty moving around and intermittent changes in pain levels. 2. Calming down phase: 1-3 weeks - pain levels more manageable, reintegrate normal activities as much possible. 3. Normalising phase: 3-6 weeks reduction in all symptoms: stiffness & pain, minimal activity avoidance and return to normal exercise patterns. Physiotherapists are well trained and equipped to walk you through these phases and to help you with pain relief, mobility, activity modification and re-introduction of activity/training when indicated. Physiotherapists are also first-contact practitioners and trained in identification and diagnosis of injuries and can help you to determine whether you require any further management such as imaging, medical or specialist review. The Physio will conduct a thorough subjective and objective assessment to help conclude what the necessary evidence-based treatment would be. Exercise prescription is one of the most vital parts of back pain management. Specific exercise prescription within each phase can help you to excel your rehabilitation. If you are struggling with back pain, please dont suffer in silence, we would love to help! Please call us at Physio on Ross Ph: 07 4728 2116 today.

12.01.2022 Physio Funny Friday! Hope you have a great weekend. Remember we are here for all your Physio needs.

08.01.2022 For those interested in Michael Morgan or the NQ Cowboys. It seems his shoulder concerns are quite serious

08.01.2022 Recently Townsville as a community , and bike riders as a whole were devastated by the news of an imbecile wiping out 5 harmless bike riders on the roads. Thank goodness there were no deaths, no head injuries and that all 5 are making slow but steady progress. Three of them are close friends. They have all ridden in numerous organised charity bike rides and have part of fundraising millions of dollars for children's cancer research, mental health support and melonoma research.... My three friends are all professionals that are losing financially and life is on a stand still. They are three of the most giving, quiet achievers you can find and will battle their rehabilitation with 100 %. They will not be named, as they would prefer it that way but Physio on Ross is so thankful they are OK and will help them in any way required throughout their recovery. We wish all five injured cyclists all the best and hope that they can resume normal quality of life as soon as possible See more
