25.01.2022 On the road on a family holiday for a week, exploring the beautiful NT. I will be back in civilisation and ready to see you all again on Monday 20th July.

25.01.2022 If you have or know of a child with Autism who has trouble sleeping, this is a great opportunity to take part in a study of a very safe, non-Pharmacological intervention to improve their sleep. As the treatment is done via Telehealth you can live anywhere in Australia and still participate. If you are interested, email the address on the flyer or get in touch with me.

24.01.2022 Another week and its another "week"! This week is National Nutrition Week. What you fuel your body with can have a big impact on energy levels and pain as well as your likelihood of developing other health conditions. ... Check out the Tryfor5 website for varied and interesting recipe ideas to try and get 5 serves of veg in your diet every day. https://www.tryfor5.org.au/

24.01.2022 The experts agree; 150 min per week of moderate to vigorous exercise improves the immune system. What’s stopping you? https://www.rcgp.org.uk//E6555DF011C84C24877B95E80FE0A696.

23.01.2022 So true! Hope you are enjoying the Darwin Cup long weekend - look after your feet!

23.01.2022 Happy Mothers Day to all the Mums and the Mums to be! Pregnancy is such an exciting time but can be tough on the body - the exhaustion, morning sickness, pain, heart burn, swelling, weight gain and did I say exhaustion are all worth it though, for the end result! Clinical Pilates is not only a safe and healthy way to exercise while pregnant, it can also be helpful in treating pregnancy related back pain, pelvic pain and pelvic floor dysfunction.... Thank you to the lovely Kerry for allowing me to film her session - can you believe she still has 8 weeks to go til this bubba is due!?!

22.01.2022 #RUOK? #Womenshealthweek2020

21.01.2022 2020 has been a tough year for mental health. Please look after yourself, your family and your friends both physically and mentally. If you need help, don't be afraid to ask. Sending love and hugs to everyone

21.01.2022 Headaches and Migraines have many causes including: hormonal fluctuations, stress, dehydration, poor posture, whining children who wont stop fighting with each other... The good news is Physiotherapy and Clinical Pilates can help to reduce severity and frequency of headaches and migraines and even stop them altogether! (It probably wont stop your kids from whining and fighting but hopefully you can deal with it better!) #womenshealthweek2020

20.01.2022 In physiotherapy we are always working to achieve an individual’s goals, but sometimes the impact of pain on people’s lives is far greater than we imagined. It’s feedback like this that makes me feel proud that I do the job that I do.

19.01.2022 Maintaining pelvic stability whilst lifting one foot in bridging is pretty tricky!

19.01.2022 Exciting times in the NT for sports lovers with training resuming and games starting again in less than 2 weeks! However with limited training time (or pre-season) before the resumption of matches, building up players work load prior to playing full matches is difficult (impossible!) The German Football league have just resumed matches and saw a 226% increase in the rate of injuries per match in their first round back!... I cant wait to get back to my netball, but am crossing my fingers that everyone has kept up with their strength and fitness training over the break and we can all come through this unscathed.

19.01.2022 Had an amazing holiday - I love living in the NT! Back at work tomorrow. Message or call 0433 318 651 if you want an appointment.

18.01.2022 I hope youve managed to replenish your toilet paper supplies!

18.01.2022 Scooter. The exercise everyone loves to hate! You can see where it gets it’s name and you probably could get similar benefits and more fun on a real scooter - but not on one of those electric ones!

17.01.2022 Mirrors up and door painted! My husband has been very productive this weekend!

16.01.2022 Yesterday I had the pleasure of helping a lovely group of ladies collect, sort and pack donated handbags full of essentials and a few special treats for the charity ‘Share The Dignity’. The handbags will be gifted to homeless women at Christmas. Our little group put together 48 bags! It’s lovely to see women helping women and it’s nice to think that we are putting a smile on someone we don’t know’s face on Christmas Day.

16.01.2022 I am really pleased to be supporting Port Darwin Football Club this season. Good luck ladies and gents!

15.01.2022 This one was super hard!

15.01.2022 Injury management is more complicated than just Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate! UNLESS you properly rehabilitate your injury, you run the risk of continual problems or re-injury. Clinical Pilates provides a perfect environment to progressively LOAD an injury, EXERCISE to maintain general strength and fitness and STRENGTHEN the injured body part and other areas of weakness before before beginning sports specific SKILL training and returning to sport. Here is a great infographic from David Peirce Physiotherapy...

15.01.2022 This is the third batch of Brownies my son has made in the last week and a half. Batch number 2 was the best (hopefully I wont eat so many of this lot!!!)

14.01.2022 Womens Health Week 5 facts about exercising in the child-bearing year: 1. Exercise during pregnancy has many benefits to mother and baby. 2. Exercise prevents and reduces pelvic girdle and lower back pain during pregnancy. 3. Pelvic floor exercises during pregnancy greatly reduce the risk of pelvic floor dysfunction.... 4. Individualised assessment and rehabilitation is best after delivering a baby. 5. It is recommended to wait at least 3 months after childbirth before considering a return to running. See https://australian.physio/inmotion/five-facts-about--exercise-during-child-bearing-year for more information about exercise during and after pregnancy

14.01.2022 This one was quite entertaining to watch the kids struggle with! Not recommended if you have back pain because its a bit awkward with the twisting, but fun to try if youre not in pain!

14.01.2022 It is my pleasure to help women of all ages and stages of life to relieve pain, improve strength and mobility and achieve their goals. #Womenshealthweek2020

13.01.2022 ACL full thickness tear + no surgery + good rehab = return to snowboarding in 3 months!

13.01.2022 We were enjoying some time in the pool over the Easter long weekend...what better place to socially distance than on a desert island!?!?

13.01.2022 This was a high value prize for both the kids and I, so the incentive was there to maintain good stability throughout the movement!

13.01.2022 Happy Farhers Day to all the Dads working hard, doing their best, giving love and support to their families. We love you!

12.01.2022 Not recommended with alcohol! You end up drinking way too fast! A good way to work off the excess calories though.

11.01.2022 Worried about the effect of extra screen time on your familys posture? Changing positions whilst using devises can help with strengthening postural muscles and reducing back ache and stiffness. There are plenty of other reasons to get off your screens and get active (giving your eyes a rest, developing strength, co-ordination, cardiovascular fitness to name a few), but in these strange and difficult times, screens and devices are playing a hugely valuable role in our lives.......we just dont want to end up in the shape of a ? once this is all over! *** Note for some types of back and pelvic pain, lying on your tummy is not recommended. If you feel that lying on your tummy increases your pain, dont do it!

11.01.2022 Today we acknowledge the contribution of men and boys, we celebrate diversity amongst men and boys, we value male role models, we aim to improve men’s health and well-being and we recognise some really good moustaches!!!

10.01.2022 It’s been one year since Physio on Wickham opened it’s doors and what a year it’s been! I couldn’t be happier with how things are going! So many lovely, loyal clients, a great work life balance and doing what I enjoy. I’m so glad I backed myself and took the plunge! ... Looking forward to the next year - I have big plans!

10.01.2022 Womens Health Week Osteoporosis - a decrease in bone density due to the bones losing minerals more quickly then they can replace them leading to brittle bones which are more prone to fracture. It is more common in older women due to the rapid drop in oestrogen levels during menopause. ... For more information and to find out if you are at risk go to https://www.osteoporosis.org.au/risk-factors and try the Know your bones Assessment tool.

10.01.2022 Is your back feeling stiff and sore? Physio on Wickham is open for individual appointments and Telehealth video call consults.

09.01.2022 Spoilt today for Physio on Wickham’s 1st Birthday! Thanks to my lovely friends for my beautiful flowers, and my supportive husband for the champagne. Xxx

08.01.2022 Anterior Not Crucial Ligament Workshop My morning has been spent learning about ACL rehab, the evidence (or lack of evidence) to support surgical reconstruction over exercise based rehabilitation, the evidence showing full ACL ruptures can heal without surgery, and worlds best practice for managing ACL rupture. Hopefully one benefit of COVID19, with the cancellation of elective surgeries, might be that people will realise that they dont need their ACL reconstructed becaus...e they have already regained full function and stability without the surgery. All ACL ruptures should undergo comprehensive, individualised exercise rehabilitation for 3 to 6 months before considering surgery - this will improve outcomes whether you end up having the surgery or not.

08.01.2022 I dont think any of my yogi friends and clients will be surprised to hear that yoga has a positive effect on depression, but here is a meta-analysis of studies that show yoga has greater reductions in depressive symptoms than waitlist, treatment as usual and attention control. The higher the frequency of yoga sessions per week, the greater the effect. I think the world could do with a bit more

07.01.2022 We will remember

06.01.2022 June 15 - 21 is International Mens Health Week, promoting awareness of the importance of good health in men, boys and their families. One of my male clients asked me this week "Is it true that Pilates was invented by a man? Then why do men think its just for women?" Yes, Pilates was invented by Joseph Pilates, it has never been just for women and it certainly isnt easy.... Clinical Pilates was developed by another man, Australian Physiotherapist Craig Phillips. Clinical Pilates takes many of Pilates exercises and adapts them to the clinical setting for use in rehabilitation, specific to the individual needs of the patient. Here is Joseph Pilates using his reformer machine - Im happy for you to wear more clothes if you come to Physio on Wickham for Clinical Pilates!

06.01.2022 We are on holidays for a week, exploring the beautiful, remote NT. No phones, no computers, just good old fashioned fun! I will be back in the clinic Monday 19th April.

06.01.2022 High intensity training is extremely popular, possibly because of its suggested health benefits and time savings. Exercises often included in these types of workouts are linked to urinary incontinence. What does this mean for you?

05.01.2022 Yummy Pink Lady Apples remind me of home (my family grow Pink Ladies on their farm) - they taste delicious on their own, but they do make a fantastic apple pie with no need for added sugar.

05.01.2022 Like wrinkles on skin, changes on MRI scans, are a normal part of aging Almost 1 in 2 people over the age of 40, without pain or injury, have knee changes on MRI scan.

04.01.2022 Pilates 100s with hot cross buns. If you would like more information about exercising with pelvic floor weekness or prolapse, please get in touch.

02.01.2022 Happy Easter! We are closed for the Easter long weekend. Will be back on Tuesday, well rested and a little fatter!

02.01.2022 Re-sharing this post as I have just had melanoma number 5 removed. Other diseases dont stop just because COVID19 is here. Getting exercise and fresh air is fantastic in these stressful and difficult times but please stay sun smart!

02.01.2022 Sometimes the babies play happily while their Mum works out, sometimes they just want to be with mum! As long as I get to have a cuddle, I’m happy...it’s not always perfect but we always get there in the end.

01.01.2022 Back from an amazing week exploring the stunning NT outback at Lorella Springs. Looking forward to seeing you again soon.
