We published a chapter in the new book Conservation Physiology: Linking Diverse Stakeholders, Promoting Public Engagement, and Encouraging Applicaiton.... . We published in journals, four papers directly related to @physioshark Moorea research, including Rummer et al. in Coral Reefs, Bouyoucos et al. in Coral Reefs, Bouyoucos et al. in Journal of Experimental Biology, and Bouyoucos et al. in Scientific Reports. . We also published another four papers from other branches of @physioshark, including Wheeler et al. in Reviews in Fish Biology and Fisheries, Nay et al. in Journal of Fish Biology, Gervais et al. in Global Change Biology, and Heinrich et al. in Animal Behaviour. . We also celebrated the PhD of the now Dr @ianbouyoucos both in Moorea with guest professorial assessors (Professor Nann Fangue and Assistant Professor Jacob Johansen) and in Australia as well as congratulated Dr. Bouyoucos on his new post-doc position at the University of Manitoba with Professor Gary Anderson. . . 15.01.2022 From the earliest days of the Physioshark project... just published this week! We assessed whether newborn reef sharks living in shallow, challenging, coastal nursery waters would be able to tolerate elevated carbon dioxide (simulating ocean acidification conditions for the year 2100)... turns out they do pretty well over the short term! Perhaps they truly are a ‘product of their environment.’ But, these babies aren’t out of danger yet... the oceans are also warming at an alarming rate... watch this space! 12.01.2022 It’s with a heavy heart that we saw Ian Bouyoucos off yesterday to head back home to New York... a bit too early to be leaving and a hard decision, but, given the current global pandemic, probably the wisest choice. We couldn’t be more proud, however... two PhD defenses in less a month or so with two institutions... and such a fantastic PhD thesis/dissertation, numerous publications, awards, and accolades... just a few more boxes to tick and revisions to sort, and then it’s o...fficially... Dr. Bouyoucos!!! We are lucky we got through these milestones and got a bit of celebrating done too just in the nick of time! Passionate about sharks and rays, she's been with physioshark since 2017 to develop our communications and outreach. She's also stepped in as research assistant when needed :-) Isabel has a MSc in Marine Biology from James Cook University, and MSc in Marketing from Maastricht University. Over the last five ye...ars she’s worked with the @MantaTrust leading a global conservation program for manta and devil rays funded by the @sharkconservationfund, @saveourseasfoundation and @iucn. Since early 2019 Isabel is in charge of communications for the Great Barrier Reef Marine Parks, Queensland National Parks @qldparks, based in Australia.
