25.01.2022 Happy Mothers day To the mum's, the mum's to be and the mum's we miss, especially my own who is my inspiration to everyday. I am blessed to work with women and their health everyday and I LOVE it. Thank you for allowing me on your journey into and through all the phases of motherhood and beyond.

24.01.2022 Its World Continence Week (and coincidently the week I took off work, so I'm a bit late to the party!) Continence Foundation of Australia have identified 5 healthy habits that are the key to preventing incontinence for the majority of Australians. 1. Stay Active... 2. Eat Well 3. Get enough fluids and drink well 4. Exercise your pelvic floor 5. Practice good toilet habits If incontinence is affecting your life, a simple change to any of these five factors could make a huge difference. An assessment with me (a womens health physio) can identify areas that may need to be addressed. Incontinence can be improved and prevented and I would be happy to help you along the journey.

24.01.2022 Ive had lots of mums in post C-section lately who havent been told about the benefits of scar massage. Its super important (and super easy, you do it lying down) so I want to keep getting the word out there!

24.01.2022 Here are my two cherubs, Melbourne 1.5yrs and Ireland 3.5 years, the reason I'm in womens health. Does everyone else's toddler smile like this for photos?! Why!!

23.01.2022 A great session with mum_and_cub_ today at Chittaway Park. We talked all things Diastisis Recti and worked out with pelvic floor (and COVID-19) safety! Thanks for having me and my runaway cubs Emma!

23.01.2022 Mumma, heres a 2min read instead of pointless Insta scrolling at 2am for tonights overnight feed ;) Yes, physio can help. BLOG: Mastitis and Blocked Ducts - Therapeutic Ultrasound. ... https://www.physiozest.com.au//mastitis-and-blocked-ducts-

22.01.2022 Diastisis recti abdominis (DRA) is a widening and/or thinning of the linea alba, the connective tissue in the midline of the abdominal wall. This means your abdominal muscles are now "seperated" rather than sitting parallel to each other. A DRA is NOT a hernia. A hernia is a complete separation of the connective tissue which abdominal contents can push through. 100% of women in their 3rd trimester have a stretched abdominal wall. DRA is totally normal, its how we allow ou...r baby to grow! The problem is, when the stretched abdominal wall does not come back as much or as quick as we like post-birth. It is well established that the deep core plays a crucial role in optimal function of the pelvis and lower back. One way in which this is achieved is through fascial tension across the linea alba. THIS we can help with!! An early assessment post-nataly can guide us to the correct cueing and appropriate exercises to ensure you are optimally loading your abdominal wall.

16.01.2022 Did you know?! Certain foods and drinks have been associated with worsening symptoms of urinary urgency, frequency, urge incontinence and bladder discomfort and pain. These bladder irritants dont affect everyone the same, but if you suffer from bladder symptoms it may be worth identifying which irritants have an effect on you.... I use a bladder diary to assess your bladder patterns which can give us a great understanding of what the underlying cause may be. It may be a simple change in lifestyle, it may be a combination of factors but bladder urgency, frequency and pain can be relieved.

04.01.2022 Some really great tips from the Australian Physiotherapy Association. Number 4 is particular exciting to see on an infographic!! At 6-12 weeks postpartum every mother should have an individualised pelvic health assessment.... Even without symptoms at this point, an assessment can help to prevent and manage any pelvic organ prolapse, prevent and manage incontinence and improve sexual function.

03.01.2022 Its a long post... but totally worth a read! We are dealing with some sensitive, often embarrassing issues, so of course it can seem a little daunting to pick u...p the phone and ask for a womens health appointment (lucky you can book with me online!) But rest assured, Ive been there myself after birthing my 2 kids. Its my job and my passion to make you feel comfortable and help you with your womens health. At the initial appointment we start with a thorough assessment. I ask you loads of questions; about your pregnancy, your birth, and your recovery. We discuss what activity or exercise you did prior to pregnancy, during pregnancy and what you want to get back to. The sticky questions are about continence (or incontinence), bladder and bowel habits and any pain you may experience emptying your bladder or bowel or during intercourse. After all the questions we get moving. I want to see how YOU move. What is your abdominal control like, do you hold your breath when trying to contract and do you have any diastasis recti (abdominal separation). An internal (vaginal) examination is often required as part of your pelvic floor assessment. This examination enables me to fully assess your pelvic floor muscles and pelvic organ prolapse. It is an excellent way for me to assess if you are contracting your pelvic floor muscles correctly. It is not compulsory to have an internal examination if you are uncomfortable with the procedure. After all of the assessment, we can then determine what the treatment and rehab plan is to get you where you want to be. You will probably have some homework! I liaise with your coach, personal trainer, or anyone else involved in your rehab on what the best cue might be for your pelvic floor or abdominal control, which exercises are and arent appropriate for you and what the alternatives might be. It is so much easier to get on top of any issues if we deal with them early. Incontinence is common, but not normal.
