25.01.2022 Morton's neuroma is when the nerves running between your metatarsal bones (found at the base of your toes) become irritated and inflamed, resulting in a burning or sharp pain in the ball of the foot. Friction and pressure from the metatarsal bones on the nerve causes it to become painful and inflamed. This can be caused by poor footwear, biomechanical problems, flat arches or certain activities. Depending on the severity of the condition, our podiatrists can eith...er diagnose in clinic or refer you for an ultrasound. Treatment options include orthotics, footwear correction, anti-inflammatory agents and in severe cases, a cortisone injection. Does this sound like you? Don't suffer any more! Call us on (08) 6269 2038 and book an appointment today.

23.01.2022 HOW TO TALK TO YOUR PARENTS ABOUT THEIR FOOT HEALTH Have you noticed something isnt quite right with your parents fee Do you think a podiatrist should take a look at their feet? Do you believe they should be taking more care of their feet?... If youre answering yes to any or all of the questions above, but arent sure how to broach the subject with your parents, here are a few tips to help you: Express your concern in a way that does not patronise or embarrass them. Avoid saying You need to or I need you too If you know they wont react well to being asked directly, try an indirect approach. Say something like, I went to see my podiatrist yesterday and they asked of any foot problems in the family. Do you have a moment to talk about it? Be prepared for some push back, such as Well you dont see a podiatrist or I dont see you looking after your feet. If you visit the podiatrist yourself, it shows your parents you strongly believe in prioritising your foot health and is more likely to convince them to also attend. Have you got any more tips? Comment them below to help others!

15.01.2022 Osteoporosis affects more than 1 in 5 women over the age of 65 years, compared with around 1 in 20 men . Women are at greater risk of developing osteoporosis because of the rapid drop in the hormone oestrogen during menopause. In men, testosterone levels decline more gradually. As a result, bone mass in men usually remains adequate until later in life. By age 65, both men and women lose bone at the same rate. In honour of #bonehealthawareness week, podiatrist Adrian Dawson from our sister clinic, Balcatta Podiatry shared a little bit about Osteoporosis , and how a podiatrist can help you or someone you know in managing this condition effectively. Please pass this message on to someone who might find it beneficial by tagging them in the comments below.

15.01.2022 Bad posture? Maybe its your feet! Did you know that our feet have a great impact on our posture? The same goes for bad posture having a great impact on our foot and lower limb health. Here are a few ways your feet may be affecting your posture: Flat feet and lower arches cause your foot to roll inwards and the arch to collapse, placing stress on the foot, ankle, hips and lower back... If you're experiencing posture problems, its time to see one of our podiatrists to improve your strength and stability. Call us on (08) 6269 2038 to book an appointment.

13.01.2022 Diabetes is a systemic condition that can affect both the blood and nerve supply to the feet. Over time the lack of sensation can damage the skin as well as the muscles causing misalignment of the foot . This can result in pressure injuries that could go unnoticed and ulcerate as there is less sensation. With reduced blood supply to the feet, the healing capabilities are reduced making the foot more prone to infection following any injury that breaks the skin. Symptoms ...of nerve damage include pins and needles, numbness, cold feet and burning sensations in the feet especially when sleeping. Symptoms of poor blood flow include slow-healing cuts, pain in the feet (even at rest) cramps in the legs when walking, cold feet and reddish-blue (purple-looking feet). 10.01.2022 As a tradie, your most important tool is your health and given the physical nature of your job, its important that you go home safe, well and ready for action again the next day. To help you do this, follow a few simple steps: Before your shift, make sure to do a light warm up before starting work. Do some stretches for specific muscle groups such as quad or hamstring stretches if you do lots of squatting for work. Pace yourself and your workload througho...ut the day to avoid overuse injuries and fatigue. Talk to your workmates to ensure you are working in the safest and most efficient way possible. As most people have rolled their ankle at least once in their life, it's common to think tha...t these injuries do not require rehabilitation; however, rehabilitation is essential after all ankle sprains, in order to reduce the likelihood of them happening again. Our podiatrists here at Piara Waters Podiatry want to help you on your road to recovery. If you have recently sprained an ankle, please get in touch with our team by contacting us on (08) 6269 2038 or head to the video tab on our page to find exercises that will help you manage your pain today.

06.01.2022 Bunions normally present as bumps or a swelling on the side or top of the big toe joint. The bone and tissue surrounding the joint becomes misaligned due to undue pressure on the toes. This is a common foot condition normally, made even more common in women due to our poor shoe choices. Narrow, pointed-toe footwear pushes the big toe towards the other toes, causing the joint to protrude. High heels make the issue worse as it forces the toes into the front of the sho...e, further squishing them. In women, the biggest prevention method would be making sure you are wearing shoes with a larger toe box to allow your toes to sit comfortably and have enough room to wiggle. If you are already suffering from a bunion our podiatrists can help! They can provide footwear advice, orthotics and treatment techniques to relieve your pain and prevent further development. Call us on 6269 2038 to get on top of your bunion today!

Here at Piara Waters Podiatry, we have physiotherapists that are able to help cancer patients before, during and after treatment. They will be with you every step of the way. Physiotherapists work with cancer patients to reduce the side effects of chemotherapy and other cancer treatments. The...se treatments lead to a decrease in the patients physical ability and energy, resulting in the inability to exercise and complete day-to-day tasks. This can significantly affect the health of their muscles. Our physiotherapists can provide you with a personalised exercise plan to help you achieve your goals during this difficult time in your life. Some things a physiotherapist can help you achieve are maintaining independence, managing fatigue and pain, increasing their strength and activity levels and helping patients return to work and the activities that they love.
