25.01.2022 About to get serious. Picking Chardonnay tomorrow then Pinot Noir for the next 5 days anf then Chardonnay again for the following 4 days. Then onto Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. All hand picked.

23.01.2022 Our house was positioned in such a way as to maximise the views of the gardens, vineyards, olive grove, our small forest and vistas of the Picardy valley. Coincidently this also allows us to watch the beautiful sunset over the forest.

12.01.2022 We were very fortunate to find a local builder (of Italian extraction) who was very sympathetic to that particular style of dwelling and did a superb job. We made our own blend of colours of these tiles to get the exact look that we were after. As money was an issue at the time, we did all of the floor tiling and painting ourselves.

11.01.2022 Picardy House is mainly furnished with antique French Furniture which Sandra and Bill purchased over the years from antique shops. The garden at Picardy House h...as been established with an olive grove, hundreds of heritage roses, a quince walk, a partier garden with statues, etc.. It is a labour of love for Bill and Sandra, with the gardens continually evolving. See more

10.01.2022 Bill states: While establishing Picardy in the early nineties, we had always thought about building a French style farmhouse on the property for Sandra and I to live in. We wanted to build a house which would appear interesting and imposing in isolation (not adjacent to other houses). This demanded something rather unusual and the French farm house seemed to fit the bill. We had admired pictures of a dwelling in a book of French farmhouses. The original is in Quercy, in south-west France, It has a fairly simple but elegant appearance, being a Maison a Bollet (house with verandah) and a pigeonier (pigeon loft) in one corner.

10.01.2022 I designed a simple, open living plan for the interior with the pigeonier becoming upstairs and downstairs bedrooms. Wanting to build a house with Mediterranean style roof tiles, limestone coins and an earth coloured render would give the desired appearance.
