25.01.2022 To our valued community: the time has come for us to close our doors as a wholefood, plant-based cafe. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support over the years - we couldn't have done this without you! The plant-based community is strong in Newcastle, and it is growing all the time. If you have any favourite stories or memories of what Pickled & Pressed meant to you, we would love you to share them. We feel like Pickled & Pressed has been much ...more than just a cafe; it has been a great group of people, doing good in the world, and having a lot of fun. We stood for sustainability, and we did that in many ways. Not only were we plant-based, we shopped locally, used seasonal produce and composted our waste with the help of the wonderful Feedback Organic team. All of our take-away containers were compostable or recyclable, and we were down to half a normal bin (or less) of waste per week! It goes to show that it can be done, and that the people of Newcastle believe in responsible spending. Where you spend your money matters, and you showed that you value sustainable, compassionate business. Thank you! We're not done forever, we're just taking a (well-earned!) break from the rewarding (and energy intensive) world of hospitality for now. We will continue to support plant-based businesses and events, and we'll let you know about them on our Facebook page. And lastly, we'd like to give a warm welcome to the incoming tenants to the lovely building at 98 Glebe Road; an aligned company who have been our biggest supporters over the years, Living Joy (https://www.facebook.com/livingjoyonline/). Living Joy is a sustainable real estate development company doing all kinds of socially and environmentally responsible housing projects. Their mission is to help people and the planet to thrive together, and we couldn't be more excited to have the Living Joy team carry on the vision that Pickled & Pressed has been working towards for the last three years.
