13.01.2022 Here is the 2017/18 Picnic Racing Calendar

13.01.2022 A tough day for favourite punters at Balnarring on Sunday with none saluting on the six race card, but there were a few market firmers that punters managed to find and the astute ones may have been able to finish with their nose in front at the end of the day. It certainly appeared an advantage to be on the speed too with the inside of the track seeming to have had less traffic after a recent set of midweek jumpouts. Riding honours for the day were split between Toby Lake an...d Sophie Logan who both went home with winning doubles. Lake, on the back of a treble at Healesville on Saturday, took out the opening race on the Mick Bell trained Kalaru Girl ($3.40) who sat just off the speed and got an opening at the top of the straight to win strongly, and he bookended the program with a win in the last race on Murphys Corner ($3.30) who rounded up in form galloper My Running Mate over the concluding stages. Logan, who is based at Cranbourne and rides work for trainer Shea Eden, won the third and fourth races on board Kalashani Gem and Deck of Cards. The decision to change tactics with Kalashani Gem ($9) and push forward paid off with Logan explaining that the horse has been finishing strongly but is still a bit green and keen to have a good look around in her races. The Don Dwyer trained Deck of Cards ($4) began well and carried the top weight to victory in another strong on pace performance. Maddison Morris outrode her 3kg claim with a win on Golden Tart ($5) in the second race. Shell now claim 2kg from next weekend onwards. It was the second win at Balnarring this season for the Lisa Jones trained galloper who has shown a liking for the Balnarring track in her career. While Morris is uncertain where Golden Tart will race next, she described the mare as one who is tough and will just keeps grinding away. The Waymouth combination won the other race on the program with Ten Times ($3.50) who was up in class and down in weight, but enjoyed the track pattern which favoured on pacers and was well supported in betting on the day. The Picnic Racing Live team would also like to wish Reece Goodwin the best of luck with his move to Singapore next week to work with Lee Freedman. Today was his last day as a picnic rider and Reece has always been extremely generous towards us with his time and opinions. Picnic Racing in Victoria loses a very good ambassador for the sport, and we are confident hell do a great job overseas. We return to Balnarring in 12 days time for the Australia Day meeting which features the Balnarring Cup. As always, Casey Radio 97.7fm will be there. Keep your eye on our Facebook page next week in the lead up for all the news and tips ahead of the big day.

13.01.2022 Thanks to everyone who listened in today from Balnarring. Great day and another huge crowd. Keep an eye on our page later tonight for our review of the day and more photos.

10.01.2022 Racing heads to Healesville tomorrow and our man Bill Quin will be behind the binoculars again for a strong six race program. His tips are as follows: R1 3,1,5 R2 7,6,10 R3 6,1,5,8 ... R4 1,4,5,11 R5 1,2,9,6 R6 1,3,2,7 Casey Radios next broadcast will be from Yea St Pats on Sunday February 25th.

07.01.2022 Robert Kingston holds a strong hand at Balnarring on Cup Day with a couple of runners and a likely short priced favourite in the last race on the card. Have a listen to Robert talking with The Racing Shows Nick Noonan about his horses chances across the state over weekend.

04.01.2022 Congrats to Courtney Pace on winning her second Picnic Racing Jockey Premiership

04.01.2022 What a great initiative by the VRC.. We know plenty of people in the industry who deserves recognition!!

04.01.2022 Picnic Racings biggest meeting of the year took place at Balnarring on Australia Day with a crowd in excess of 5,000 enjoying perfect conditions and watching some competitive racing on the track. The feature event the Crownbet Balnarring Cup over 1600m went the way of race favourite Mega DOro ($2.30) who carried 70kg to victory at his first start beyond 1450m. From the outside gate, jockey Clay Beasy took the horse to the front and kicked away at the top of the straigh...t. A fast finishing Rileys Rocket made an impression late but wasnt able to close the gap as Mega DOro went on to win by a half length. Owner Richard Anderson was thrilled with the win and told Casey Radio following the race that he expects the horse to be capable of stepping out even further in distance. For jockey Clay Beasy it was just his second ride for the season, and his first since he partnered Mega DOro at Healesville back on Derby Day. Selective with his rides these days, the talented Beasy got his weight down to the 70kg required to ride the horse which he co-trains at Mornington with Carlo Vidotto. The other story of the day was the win of Captain Material in the last race on the program. The Robert Kingston trained galloper won with authority at Healesville a fortnight ago and the $1.40 favourite made a one act affair of todays race winning by 4.75L. The 6yo gelding was purchased by managing owner Kylie Stephenson for $700 just days before he was scheduled for a visit to the knackery nearly four years ago and was given time to grow and mature before moving to the base of Mornington trainer Robert Kingston. The win also keeps jockey Toby Lake in clear second position on the jockeys premiership now five wins behind leader Courtney Pace. Lochend Emmarose opened the day with a long overdue win. Having been previously placed 7 times from 13 race starts, jockey Grant Seccombe was able to get the Troy Kilgower trained galloper home for a narrow maiden victory. No Nonsense Ned jumped to the front and impressively won the second event on the program, giving jockey Joanne Geddes her first win in the saddle. Geddes hadnt ridden in a race since Easter last year. But riding and training honours for the day went to the Waymouth team of Debbie and Rebecca who had wins with Wanion and Ten Times. Both horses recorded their second wins for the season at Balnarring. For Ten Times, hes made it three wins in a row and now has 5 wins from 14 career starts. Debbie is riding as well as ever, and daughter Rebecca has a nice team of horses which are trained out of Mornington and are always hard to beat when racing at Balnarring. Picnic Racing returns to Balnarring on Sunday March 11th for the traditional Labour Day weekend meeting. For all enquiries about marquee packages, please visit the Balnarring Picnic Racing Club website - www.balnarringraces.com
