22.01.2022 On the eve of ANZAC Day we thought we would share some pictures of two local living legends Fred Denny and Annie Gwennyth Ray (Gwen) Sheldrake who both served their country in WW2. We as a country and community will be forever grateful for the sacrifices you have made for your country and we will show you even when times are challenging, it doesn't matter where you commemorate on Saturday, we must stop, pause and remember all those who have worn the Australian ADF uniform and our Allies. Thank you.

21.01.2022 Congratulations to local lady Gemma who graduated this week, Gemma I know your family are very proud of your achievements, as are we. Welcome to the ADF family and may your career in the Australian Navy be smooth sailing. Well done Gem, we are very proud of you!

20.01.2022 Tomorrow it will be time for the Nation to stop, pause and reflect for all who have served Australia and our allies, it is a time to remember the sacrifice of those who have served and those who are serving and their families. The sub Branch will be hosting a Remembrance Day Commemoration Service at Thirlmere Public School at 10.40am on Monday 11th November 2019, we welcome everyone to attend and pay their respects. If you can not join us, wherever you are please take a moment to pause at the 11th Hour of the 11th Day of the 11 Month. Lest We Forget.

20.01.2022 Following further discussions with the NSW Government, RSL NSW has made the decision to cancel all public ANZAC Day commemoration services across the state. The... risk to vulnerable people during the current health situation is simply too high for these events to continue in their traditional format. 20.01.2022 Rwanda Citation awarded on 25th Anniversary (25/7/19) AUSTRALIAN Service Contingents 1 and 2 who served in Rwanda on Operation TAMAR were today recognised with the award of a Meritorious Unit Citation. Operation TAMAR was Australia’s contribution to the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda, which consisted of sending approximately 700 Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel in two contingents to provide medical support and security for the medics. Minister for Vetera...ns and Defence Personnel said from 1994 to 1996 it is estimated that more than 800,000 innocent civilians were killed in Rwanda by armed militias and trained military forces attracting world-wide world-wide attention and condemnation. The men and women of Australian Service Contingents 1 and 2 demonstrated extraordinary courage, discipline and compassion in the performance of their duties and on behalf of their country we recognise their meritorious service, Mr Chester said. The Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), gazetted the award of the Meritorious Unit Citation today, on the 25th Anniversary of Australian Service Contingent 1 arriving in Rwanda. To be eligible to wear the citation insignia with the Federation Star, members must have completed 30 days service on Operation TAMAR between the dates of 25 July 1994 and 8 March 1996. Veterans who believe they are eligible are encouraged to apply directly to the Department of Defence, through the Defence Medals http://www.defence.gov.au/Medals/

19.01.2022 Please take a moment today to pause, reflect and remember all those who have served and are serving our Nation. 102 years ago the guns fell silent on the WW1 Battlefields, 416,000 Australian young men enlisted and more than 60,000 never returned home to their families, mates and communities. Since that day Australian men and woman have served with the great spirit of the ANZAC’s. Please take a moment today to pause at the 11th Hour of the 11th Day of the 11 Month to remember their Service and Sacrifice. Lest We Forget

16.01.2022 They went with songs to the battle, they were young, Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow, They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted, They fell with their faces to the foe. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:... Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We Will Remember Them. Lest We Forget. See more

16.01.2022 Today as we celebrate all that is great in our Nation, take a moment to thank those who have served and are still serving our Country to protect our way of life. Happy Australia Day!

13.01.2022 As you would be aware, the Chief Medical Officer has advised the Federal Government that as of Monday, 16 March 2020 non-essential, organised mass gatherings of over 500 people should be discouraged. This will obviously have an impact on planning for ANZAC Day. Representatives of RSL NSW are meeting with the NSW Government on Monday to further understand the impact of this advice for the delivery of ANZAC Day events in the city and across the state. We will advise you of any updates of our planned ANZAC Commemoration Service.

Our panel has local and National significance with a picture from the Australian War Memorial of Martin Place on 11 November 1918. The other picture is of local significance Lt W. A. They deserve our honour, our thanks and our respect .Today please take a moment to pause to remember and reflect on the service of almost 60,000 Australians who served in Vietnam from 1962 until 1973 and the 3,000 who were wounded. Many more veterans suffered, and continue to suffer, because of their service and may we always remember the 521, including one of our own Wollondilly boys Private Ian Thomson who made the ultimate sacrifice May Their Name Liveth for Evermore.

07.01.2022 MEDALLION AND CERTIFICATE RECOGNISE WWII VETERANS - Glad to see the Service of more than one million Australian men and women who fought to protect our country and our allies in WWII will be recognised as we approach the 75th anniversary. Australia can never fully repay the debt we owe these amazing men and women but, to mark their service, the DVA is producing a Commemorative Medallion and Certificate of Commemoration for the remaining living veterans of the WWII. The Austra...lian made medallion will be presented in a display case and is a small memento for our veterans. This is but a small gesture of appreciation from a grateful nation that we extend to those veterans who fought to protect our way of life in the terrible conflict that ended 75 years ago. Elegible veterans can apply, or their families on their behalf, either online at www.dva.gov.au/medallion or, for those without internet access, by phone on 02 61918217 during business hours.
