24.01.2022 Samantha is a Wool Business Specialist at Elders, based at the National Wool Selling Centre in Melbourne, Victoria. Her role with Elders has allowed Samantha to develop a suite of innovative products including a weekly wool market podcast, and she co-developed a new wool-valuing system across all three of the Elders wool selling centres, earning her the title of 2019 Winner of National Council of Wool Selling Brokers of Australia Broker Award. Samantha is also the 2019/2020 W...oolProducers Australia Youth Ambassador. Samantha brings these IT, social media and marketing skills to the table as an Innovation Hub committee member helping to identify and support new projects and provide input for future Young Farming Champion workshops. I nominated for this role as an opportunity to put the training received as a YFC into practice, develop my skill-set and give back to the PYiA team and community who are a high calibre group of individuals united under Australian agriculture. Being part of this group also provides opportunities to the next generation of agriculturalists and consumers. Welcome Sam to the IH! Wool for Every Day - I WOOL, WOOL YOU?

24.01.2022 Katherine Bain grew up as a sixth generation farmer in central Victoria, starting her own Coopworth sheep stud at age 14. At school she spent a year in Japan as an exchange student and realised the value of Australian wool to the world. She cemented this international experience by working on a cattle ranch in Canada and now is a Business Analyst with Paraway Pastoral Company Limited, based in Orange, NSW. Katherine has been a Young Farming Champion since 2016. From my first... YFC workshop it has been the people involved and their passion for the industry who keep me coming back for more. For example, I didnt even know cotton was such a big industry for Australia until I met the Cotton YFC. Now Im involved with a small amount of cotton growing through Paraway and Ive got some first-rate experts to call on! Katherine brings this enthusiasm and networking experience to the Innovation Hub and looks forward to furthering the connection between students and the agricultural industry. I hope the Innovation Hub will close a few knowledge gaps of where to get information on current issues and ensure the voice of agriculture gets heard in classrooms around Australia. Welcome to the IH Katherine!

21.01.2022 Welcome to the Innovation Hub team Tayla! On completion of a Bachelor of Agricultural Science from University of Sydney, Tayla Field accepted a graduate position with salad producer OneHarvest, which saw her begin work on Tasmanian farms before being transferred to the processing facility in Sydney and then to the sales department. With this rounded view of the company Tayla is now a Business Manager for One Harvest in Brisbane. Throughout her career Tayla has been a Young Fa...rming Champion. Participating in the PYIA programs since 2016 has given me a breadth of personal and professional skills and built a great support network of like-minded people. The program continues to offer opportunities to engage with a great group of people and four years later this is what keeps me interested and looking to continue my learnings and involvement with PYIA. Tayla extended her networking opportunities when she recently spent seven weeks in the UK with a salad supplier and although this was truncated by COVID-19 she is now in a position to take a lead on the Innovation Hub. The Innovation Hub will facilitate the scoping and exploration of exciting new projects, and extensions to current projects, that will focus on building engagement and supporting youth within different agricultural industries. I hope that through being a part of these sessions, we can develop platforms for young farmers and consumers to have discussions about important issues within our industry.

20.01.2022 We asked 2019 Cultivate, Emily May what is your driving force in being involved in agricultural programs like Art4Agriculture Young Farming Champions? My driving force in being involved in Art4Ag is that it provides me with a platform to help educate a younger generation about how important and how diverse the agriculture industry is. It enables me to particularly help those students from more city locations gain an understanding that where their food is grown isnt so far away from where they live and get them to understand of some of the challenges agriculture faces as a whole and on the challenges more specific to agriculture on the outskirts of our cities. We are so excited to see where your journey takes you Emily!

12.01.2022 . over time, what I’ve come to see and [what] I think is really critical, particularly in agriculture, is anticipatory leadership. It’s really about being able to use strategic foresight to identify issues and opportunities, risks and opportunities and get ahead of the curve.we need to get on the front foot and collectively work together to get ahead, so that we’re in control of managing the risk. Have you caught-up on all of season 2 of Leadership is Language yet? 11.01.2022 Tonight's chat with our champs is with @jasmine.whitten. We asked Jaz how she got into agriculture! Growing up on a farm was the start of my agricultural journey. Although, my career pathway was very broad in my teen years where I had a range of jobs from hay carting, hairdressing assistant, take away shop attendant and also house cleaning. However, it was my extra-curricular hobby of cattle showing that really cemented that I was going to have a career in the agricultural... industry. This experience exposed me to industry leaders, a range of career pathways and role models who I have looked up to for a number of years now. This was where I decided I wanted to study a Bachelor of Rural Science at UNE and that decision opened many more doors for me. While I was at University I have worked on stations across Australia, as an intern at a vertically integrated poultry business, and I have even worked as a Junior Agricultural Consultant with the 2017 Rural Consultant of the year, Greg Mills. #chatwithourchamps #pictureyouinagriculture #farming #australianag See more

11.01.2022 Weve been chatting with Calum Watt about his many achievements.... My proudest achievement is probably publishing my first research paper and ultimately having it finished within my first year of my PhD which is huge. I am grateful that what I do garners interest from the general public I have had the opportunity to speak on the radio and to newspapers about what I am trying to achieve. I was also lucky enough to make it to the semi-finals of the WA Young Achiever Awards and it is a great feeling to know that somebody nominated me for that and believes what I am trying to do for agriculture is important and worthy of recognition. We are all ears and eyes on your Calum, keep up your fabulous work!

11.01.2022 When we had a chat with Anika Molesworth we asked what has your career pathway in agriculture entailed to now? I spent part of my childhood on my familys farm which really sparked my interest. I then went Jillarooing in Queensland before understaking a Bachelor in Agribusiness, a Masters in Sustainable Agriculture, and then the PhD. Along the way Ive been working with many agricultural groups and have spent time overseas working with farmers.

Chloes passion and dedication to Australias wool industry were rewarded in 2019 when she was named the joint winner of the Peter Westblade Scholarshipl, and her willingness to share her story was celebra...ted when the National Farmers Federation published her experience of dealing with COVID-19. Throughout her career Chloe has been a Young Farming Champion. I enjoy networking with like-minded individuals and being a part of an adaptable and ever-changing program that shares the same values I do and is part of a positive agricultural change. I wanted to give back to the YFC program and felt I had the desired skills to bring to this committee. I also want to learn new skills and work with other YFC to develop workshops and create and deliver new ideas through the Innovation Hub. Welcome to the IH team Chloe!

01.01.2022 There is no comparison between me standing up in front of the students and telling them what I know about wool to having an actual farmer, standing in a field, talk with them. Zoe Stephens, science teacher at Carlingford West Public School Victoria. Paddock Pen Pals beams Young Farming Champions from the paddock directly into classrooms using zoom, and this year six farmers joined the conversation about all things Wool at Carlingford West: Lucy Collingridge, Samantha Wan... Boucher, Dione Howard, Katherine Bain, Danila Marini and Chloe Dutschke. Before we started I sat down with the Year 6 cohort [over 180 students] and asked them what they thought of when they pictured a farmer. You can imagine the comments someone out in a field sucking on a bit of straw, big hat on and always a male. So then I said next week youll actually get to chat with some farmers and theyre all young women and their mouths just hung open. It was amazing to have six young women to talk with us, particularly incredible because we are really breaking that stereotype of who is a farmer. Read more in this fabulous blog post! See more
