18.01.2022 In line with the latest advice from the Australian Chief Medical Officer, we recommend that families do not visit their toy libraries for 14 days if they have v...isited Hubei Province in China, or following exposure to any confirmed novel coronavirus case. Toys from these families will be renewed on request. The Chief Health Officers current advice is that people do not need to be isolated at home if they have recently travelled in other parts of China or other countries and are not showing any symptoms of the virus. As with any viral illness, please do not come to the toy library if a member of your family is sick and disinfect all toys before they are returned. If anyone in your house has been unwell, please let the toy library know so toys can be isolated. Information on how to clean toys is available at www.toylibraries.org.au/cleaning-toys If your child or anyone in your family is showing any relevant symptoms, please call your family doctor or health authority for further advice.

18.01.2022 Don't let the big toys your kids aren't playing with clutter up your house. We'll keep the clutter for you! Our front room is bursting with fantastic bikes, scooters, kitchens, rockers, cars and more. The only limit is the size of your car boot. #piedpipertoylibrary #borrowplayrepeat

14.01.2022 This is Fiona, our wonderful Pied Piper Committee President. Besides all the work she does for the library, she has 2 young children, and volunteers with The Nappy Collective. She loves to bake, go for walks, visit the cafe, and her favourite toys are magnetic tiles, puzzles and sensory play. If you see her around, make sure to say Hi and Thank You for the amazing work she does keeping the library running. We love you Fiona! #piedpipertoylibrary #volunteers

14.01.2022 Age-by-Age Guide to Toys This week we're featuring: HOW THEY PLAY: 2-3 YEARS... Your child's play is now more purposeful, and has the fine motor skills needed to complete a puzzle or build with blocks. They will start to enjoy pretend play that imitates the actions of people as well as high-tech toys that make real-life sounds, such as telephones that ring or dolls that talk. No matter how politically correct you are, your child will probably play in a gender-stereotypical way, at least some of the time. So, a boy may use his dump truck to scoop up sand, while a girl might pretend to feed her doll and put it down for a nap . Boys and girls are both very active at this age and will still enjoy their push- and pull-toys. You can also introduce a ride-on toy: start with one that your child can propel with both feet, and move up to a tricycle. Top toy suggestions are: Dolls and stuffed animals. Props for make-believe play, such as toy telephone, a tea-party set, a toy kitchen, or a doll stroller. Ride-on toys and tricycles. Musical instruments (especially popular are those with flashing lights on the keys that your child needs to press in order to play a tune). Large transportation toys with buttons to make a horn honk or a siren whistle. Puzzles. Construction toys that snap together. #toylibrary #ageappropriatetoy

13.01.2022 Toy libraries are the ultimate parenting secret for saving money and clutter! Toy library members swap toys instead of buying them which saves so much money. T...hey also save lots of space, borrowing larger activity toys and returning them in a few weeks when children feel like playing with something different! Children love choosing whatever they want to borrow and parents can say YES we can take that home! See more

13.01.2022 Great news! We are re-opening in just 1 week! Check your Inbox or our website (link in bio) to find out about our safety measures and details of our new returning and borrowing processes.

12.01.2022 Montessori toys are designed to encourage self-directed learning and collaborative play. So what does 'Montessori Inspired' actually mean? Montessori is a method of education that is based on self directed activity, hands on learning and collaborative play. The term 'Montessori Inspired' can mean very different things to many different people. Here at Pied Pipper Toy Library, we stock quality Montessori Inspired toys. Which means we provide and support your child/children'...s development activities that would be considered more of a Montessori Extension, rather than an authentic Montessori Activity. #toylibrary #montessori #montessoriathome #selfdirectedplay Featured toys are as follows (clock-wise from top left): K611345: Wooden Musical Set K8115: Alphabet Puzzle T4117: Laugh & Learn Counting Clock B3103: Counting Stacker K3613: Magnetic Blocks T8212: Shape Puzzle T3606: Maple Blocks T342: Lock Box

12.01.2022 Your safety and the safety of our staff is still our number one priority. We will be applying these safety measures to ensure the Toy Library is COVID-safe and in line with Government heath advice. We are re-opening on Saturday 11th July. Check your email or our website (link in bio) for more information.

11.01.2022 Don't forget we are open the first Monday of every month from 7-9pm! #toylibrary #sustainability #borrowoverbuy

09.01.2022 In the next few weeks we will be featuring Age-by-Age Guide to Toys and discuss how your child play at certain age and suggest some top toys. This week we're featuring: HOW THEY PLAY: 1-2 YEARS... At this age they are fascinated by cause and effect and will enjoy any toy that responds to actions and makes use of their newly acquired motor skills. For instance, they love toys that allow them to hit a ball with a hammer as well as toys with buttons that cause music to play or characters to pop up. Some high-tech toys for this age will name a letter, a shape, or a number when your child presses a button. They may be too young to actually learn his ABCs, but will still enjoy interacting with these toys and being exposed to language. Top toys suggestions are: Stacking rings Nesting cups or boxes Push- or pull-toys that make noise Hammering sets that let kids hammer pegs or balls through holes Simple, sturdy musical instruments like tambourines, drums, or maracas Shape sorters Large play vehicles, plus people that ride in them Puzzles with four or five pieces Rubber ducks or toy boats for bathtime #toylibrary #ageappropriatetoy

08.01.2022 We may have reduced our opening hours during these difficult times, but it doesn't mean we've stopped adding new toys to our collection. Check out these new toys (and more) when you browse for your next click and collect selections. Featured photos are as follows... (top left to right): T57000: Tool Tech Tool Set... S9643: Break The Safe Game (bottom left to right): K5172: Fruit Cutting Set K5528: Noah's Ark T5617: Little Kids Fubbles Bubble Bucket B3112: Baby Sort and Learn Car #ToyLibrary

08.01.2022 Age-by-Age Guide to Toys This week we are featuring: HOW THEY PLAY: 4-5 YEARS... There's a tremendous explosion in learning ability at this age, and it's a good time to introduce interactive educational toys that teach math and verbal skills, such as phonics boards or mini computers. Choose toys that say positive things like 'Good job. Let's try again' instead of ones that make negative beeping noises whenever kids get an answer wrong. Kids are now able to imagine that they're someone else and may fantasize about being airplane pilots, police officers, doctors, or teachers. Top toys suggestions are: Art supplies and craft kits Blocks of different shapes Electronic phonics toys Construction sets with large pieces, such as Legos Puzzles of greater complexity Action figures/Barbies Dress-up clothes Transportation toys, such as parking garages, airports, and train stations Board games that don't require reading Soccer balls and basketballs Bicycles with training wheels #toylibrary #ageappropriatetoy
