24.01.2022 Now that Derek Smart and Imogen Pierce have spent many an hour designing the new Solo for St Lukes Remuera organ in 2D, Lachlan Pierce now has the CNC machine carving out the upper boards! This job has proved a challenge as we are aligning new upperboards to an old soundboard, which was the swell in a previous incarnation. The use of the CNC machine allows for the extreme accuracy required.

24.01.2022 We had some company on our last tuning visit at City Hall taking some videos of our work. Nice shots!

23.01.2022 Another busy day for everyone at PPO. While Richard and Kyle were delayed at the airport heading to Rockhampton, the rest of the team were busy doing the final packing of the container for the return of the parts for St Lukes Remuera restoration. The team at the workshop eventually dwindled down to Derek, Imogen and Julie to pack the show pipes and last few bits. Simon is off to join the team in Rockhampton where they will be cleaning the organ at St Pauls . Fortunately we were blessed with fine weather to get the last parts in. Pictured here are the remaining few who worked hard to get it all in ( Julie was the photographer)

22.01.2022 So the story after 3 days, all soundboards, bellows, showfront and Swellbox in place for Friday wedding. Not a shoddy effort. And the repainted pipes look really regal. Now for lunch....

21.01.2022 We are very proud of our younger team members at PPO. Over the past month they have been traveling doing repairs and tuning far and wide in South East Queensland. Imogen and Kyle went to St. Pauls Anglican Church in Maryborough where they reinstalled the Cornopean. Kyle has since been working on the Solo soundboard for St. Lukes Presbyterian church, Remuera , NZ. Lachlan and Imogen, over the last 3 weeks, have travelled over 2500 km doing the country tuning trips. They sta...rted in Bundaberg, then Maryborough and Gympie. The next week saw them out to Toowoomba, Warwick and Stanthorpe. This week has taken them all the way out to Roma , via Chinchilla where Lachlan got to meet the puppy he is adopting in October. Then back via Goondiwindi and Pittsworth before heading back to Brisbane. Well done team. See more

21.01.2022 Cathedral Organist Andrej Kouznetsov, has very kindly allowed our team to film a few clips of him playing the chamber organ built last year. This particular piece is "A Voluntarie, for my ladye Nevell" by William Byrd (1539/40-1623).

21.01.2022 The inside of the console for St Luke's Remuera. It's all wired through connectors for ease of maintenance. Lachlan and Imogen stand next to their very neat handiwork. Sadly this is almost the last relay and capture system to be produced by A J & L Taylor Lancashire.

18.01.2022 Our smallest canine organ builder inspecting some of the smallest Salicional pipes being voiced for St. Patricks Cathedral, Toowoomba. Paris Pierce is also doing quality control of the show front motors being made in the workshop.

17.01.2022 Little Evie the 11 week old whippet, who belongs to Lachlan, joined us at the workshop yesterday. She was hard at work helping Imogen with design work. On Sunday she was helping dismantle an old reed organ by sorting the keys out. Its hard work being an organ builder dog! N.B. The reed organ is being recycled . The stop knobs , keys and reeds will be repurposed and the timber panels are being collected by a luthier.

16.01.2022 That to do when your Lewis nameplate has cracked beyond repair? Make a new one. Photograph it, tidy it up on Photoshop, scan it to CAD, and then cut it out on the CNC router. First draft of replacing the nameplate of the 1873 (rebuilt and enlarged) T. C. Lewis organ of All Saints Anglican Church, Wickham Terrace, Brisbane. The old ivory plate will go into the All Saints museum. Thanks Lachlan and Imogen.

16.01.2022 Is Dulcie trying to stow away to New Zealand ? Shes heard you can get possum flavoured dog treats over there ( that Australian Border patrol wouldnt let her mumma bring back into the country) The pipes for Remuera are now beginning to be packed to return to their homeland. No Kia Ora for you Dulcie. Youll have to stay here,

14.01.2022 Grave larghissimo ! Yesterday was an important day! https://universes.art//specials/john-cage-organ-project-ha

13.01.2022 Yesterday PPO , along with Brisbane City Hall, assisted the Organ Society and the Theatre Organ Society of Queensland with a visit to and tour through the Brisbane City Hall Henry Willis and Sons Organ. The tour was given by team members Derek and Julie while Simon, Kyle , Lachlan and Imogen were all out of town.

13.01.2022 Organ building in 2020 while the borders remain closed. Simon assisted , via ZOOM, with remedying a minor fault in the organ at St Matthews in the City in Auckland this morning . Thank you Ian and Peter for your help.

12.01.2022 There is nothing like voicing on 8" wind pressure. These are the flutes for the new Solo division of St Lukes Remuera. The 8 Harmonic Flute is Willis-scaled and is joined with a cheeky little Koppel Flute 4. My German friends were horrified to learn of curved mouths on harmonic flutes but Willis liked them. When in Rome........ And they are sounding rather good and expansive!

12.01.2022 Hello Possum! Our native possums might be furry and cute but they leave a real mess in a pipe organ. We have been cleaning The Southport School chapel pipe organ in the school holidays. You can see the before and after photos or possum and post-possum photos.

12.01.2022 Hello from Auckland where we now have the first note playing in the St Lukes organ. More sounds to come in the next few days but then we must leave for Australia and 14 days quarantine. We wish everyone outside their homeland safe travels and everyone back home good health.

10.01.2022 Please join Pierce Pipe Organs in supporting these concerts raising funds for MS. Also note this rescheduled concert for Saturday 19th. (Was originally to be at St Pauls Ipswich).

10.01.2022 Courtesy of a non accident prone staff at PPO and a first aid supplies audit, these items are being donated to wildlife carers helping animals in need after the awful fires in NSW and Victoria. Send us a message if you want to do the same and we can send you the links to contact.

10.01.2022 The inside of the console for St Lukes Remuera. Its all wired through connectors for ease of maintenance. Lachlan and Imogen stand next to their very neat handiwork. Sadly this is almost the last relay and capture system to be produced by A J & L Taylor Lancashire.

09.01.2022 Meanwhile in Hemmant, the workshop is still open and is putting the finishing touches to the mobile console for St Lukes Remuera. The outside is stained Tasmanian Oak and the interior quilted Tasmanian Oak. A nice piece of bespoke cabinetmaking.

09.01.2022 A Blast from the Past from 30 years ago. Back when we had a different address, workshop site, P.O. Box and phone number (no mobiles, faxes or emails in those days!). This was a promotional back page of the OSQ Newsletter in June 1989. Some things dont change however. Simon and team member Kyle are working in Mackay this week.... In fact PPO staff are all over the place in the next few weeks. Friday sees Lachlan and Imogen off to Whanganui in NZ for the NZOA Annual Congress. Our young team members will be flying the Aussie flag for us this year. Soon after returning to Brisbane , Simon will head across the ditch for more work there. Catch us if you can!

07.01.2022 Hello from Auckland. We went to the British Euro car show today and found our new NZ company car. And we found the ship with the container for our project at St Lukes Remuera, only a week late......now the wait for it to be unloaded.

07.01.2022 Our team had a brief stint as animal rescue today after one little birdy, a native Noisy Mynah, found himself stuck in a show front pipe! As appealing as it may be to take up residence in a pipe organ, according to our new friend, its a bit of a tight squeeze!

07.01.2022 Here is a mahogany upper board with its pipefoot holes being burnt out. The feet of the pipes need to seal against the upperboard to make it airtight. The best way to do this is to char the wood which also seals the pores in the wood. This upper board is part of the work we are doing for St Lukes Presbyterian Church, Remuera New Zealand.

06.01.2022 PPO is currently undertaking cleaning and rewiring work at St Stephens Cathedral, Brisbane. Here is the recently acquired PPO Organ Transportation Vehicle outside . Yes - it used to be an ambulance . Looking forward to your best puns about organ transplants.

05.01.2022 To all our followers - Have a blessed St Cecilias day. St Cecilia is the patron Saint of Musicians and Organbuilders .

05.01.2022 So the container arrived and has been unpacked. The parts of the St Lukes organ make a delightful addition to the church interior and we now have the Swell soundboard in place. Stephen Vincent came inspect developments with Richard, Kyle, Lachlan and Imogen.

04.01.2022 Despite the lovely rainbow photographed by Derek from the workshop car park, it still kept raining. That didnt stop our team from heading down to Southport to start cleaning and repair work on the 1925 Whitehouse organ in The Southport School Chapel.

03.01.2022 Simon and Lachlan had to attend to the organ at St Johns Cathedral , Brisbane this morning. When they were over halfway there they discovered a stowaway- Dulcie (short for Dulciana) whippet had sneaked into the back seat of the car. She went with them into the organ and behaved impeccably, even while Andrej played some loud Saint Saens.

02.01.2022 Come hear an organ restored and maintained by PPO and also 2 PPO team members performing . https://facebook.com/events/s/glorioso-at-st-brigids-a-free-/571541350265998/?ti=icl

02.01.2022 So what else do you play when you have to stop work on the organ? The sounds of the St Lukes Remuera Swell played by my voicing assistant and wife extraordonaire before we fly out. Looking forward to returning soon to finish the job.

01.01.2022 We look forward to presenting Journey in the newly re-opened St Pauls Cathedral with guest artists, Monash Lal, Ivan Richardson & Unisong Chamber Choir.
