23.01.2022 I have some VERY exciting news ! We will be opening a second studio in Emerald ! Located at Shop 8: 5-7 Kilvington Drive - a 30 second walk from where we are no...w. In the new studio - (Studio 2) we will be running group Reformer Pilates ; Barre Pilates; Kids Pilates and Mums/ Dads and bubs. In Studio 1, we will run clinical/ studio Pilates for anyone who may experience: (eg) Hip and knee pain/pathology; Feet and balance concerns eg Plantar Fasciitis or rehabilitate from ankle and/ or foot injuries; Shoulder, elbow, and /or wrist pain or injury eg tennis or golfers elbow, carpal tunnel; shoulder impingement, torn rotator cuff, frozen shoulder or other similar concerns; Neck and jaw pain, headaches. Compromised gait /walking patterns or balance concerns. Neurological conditions and acquired Brain injury - for example - stroke; MS; Parkinson’s; MND. Our new studio can also help Athletes who want to improve their game or skill - eg Horse riders; runners; soccer; Kayaking, crossfit, basketball etc! When you practise Pilates, you connect breath with movement, and concentrate on correct execution of the movement - breath and concentration stimulates respiration and nerves - we ask our brain to feel the muscles - to go find your muscles with your mind ; all whilst breathing deeply - the work simultaneously provides a deep sensation (loud noise) in your muscles whilst ...relaxing your other systems - stress is gone, body is energised and it feels amazing - hard to describe. 12.01.2022 Myth of ageing; and Pilates for rehabilitation. Pilates is a major source of rehabilitation a large part of what we do at Emerald Pilates is rehabilitation. Thomas Hannah, from his book Somatics writes the presumption is that to grow older is to become crippled. Ageing causes us to become stiff and aching. ... This stiffness, aching and limitation of movement, tiredness, distortion of posture and chronic pain are misinterpreted as the effects of old age a fictitious disease. These habits we have in our bodies are called sensory motor amnesia (SMA) it has nothing to do with age, rather, how we have adapted to our environment and events that have occurred in our lives, e.g., injury, trauma, adaptation to sedentary lifestyles it is an adaptive response of the nervous system therefore these habits can be unlearned. They can be reversed we can escape it by using our wonderful sensory motor system. Old age is not a disease, and we should not have to accept feeling stiff/sore/restricted as normal. Pilates can teach you how to move your body efficiently to feel your muscles and release them, to let go of tension in our bodies, and enjoy freedom of movement, We are more when we age, not less. To live, is to age. Celebrate your birthdays. We feel better with Pilates - the more we mature the more we grow deeper into ourselves and celebrate our lives. Pilates will not cure you curing is a medical term, as is treating: - these are what is done to a passive patient by a health care professional. Pilates works because YOU do the work it is done by an active person YOU it is an internal creation that links your mind to your body central nervous and sensory motor system, to Musculo-skeletal system your brain directs your body to move, then your brain receives the information as a result of your movement. Pilates is helpful for chronic symptoms it is packed with exercises for chronic joint problems and chronic muscular tension patterns it is rehabilitative for all states of injury from broken bones to breathing incapacity to brain damage. Pilates can be creatively adapted to everyone’s needs and condition. WE are educated, professional and caring. First up, pause on whatever you are doing and take some slow, deep breaths - yes, I know this sounds trite - but the simply act of stopping and noticing yourself inhale and exhale - slowly - even for just 30 seconds - helps to short circuit your autonomic nervous system's instinctive fight-flight-freeze response and bring you into the present moment.... You are OK, you are reading this, and you are fully capable of connecting to your higher self and becoming awake/alive/energized by simply connecting to breath - from where courage flows. When you slow down and breathe, when you connect with your body, you get to discover yourself from within and find more strengths and talents, more courage, more zest for life. So - if you feel a bit worried, anxious, stressed - stop, breathe, move, smile - feel the energy change so you can get going and live your best life. Have a fabulous Thursday - its really up to you! 03.01.2022 So true !! I teach online - feel elated and amazing because I get to see you - then flat /tired because I need more ..... Its in my DNA to work hard - I did not go to Uni twice to be told I can’t work, or run my business ..... the more I work - the more energetic I feel - the reverse can also apply if you let it creep in !! Watch out !! The beautiful Pilates equipment is lying idle - as if !!!! It’s too fantastic for that !! If you have never been on a Reformer/ Pilates cha...ir/stretched on the Barrels/ swung on the Cadillac - oooh - let’s just say it’s the most beautiful way to feel movement..... The teachers !! There are so many talented and educated Pilates teachers out there who want to work. They are itching to get back to what they love and have invested their time in, to be Qualified and more than ready. Now you - we want to help you !
