25.01.2022 Had to have a bit of a beach walk to clear my thoughts. Just me, three dogs in a row (and a ball just out of shot). Those of you who come to our classes, whether it’s group classes, mat, pre and post natal, or rehab, know that your health journey and safety are always our top priority. Locals are fortunately well provided with group training in Minlaton, Yorketown, and Corny Point. I feel our personalised sessions work perfectly in their own niche in tandem with all of these..., but our session is definitely not a gym workout. Our registration bodies have been working hard to free pilates studios and in particular rehab sessions from the generic group ban, but at this stage the ban remains in place for all except outside sessions and physiotherapist 1:1. Unfortunately this week we don’t have an opportunity to create a new video class, we will see what unfolds next week and keep you all posted. 25.01.2022 Recently during covid shutdown, I had to revisit the basics of connecting to my deepest core, not just ‘going through the motions of an abs series’, after a Dr accidentally nicked me in the stomach muscle for a minor procedure that should have just been in the fatty layer. I realised my abdominal muscles must have been ‘doming’, and I needed to dial the work back and reconnect with my conscious breath work, deep core muscles and neutral spine. Sometimes continually ‘working ...it hard’ isn’t the answer but the problem. That’s why we often ask if you’ve already recently had a bootcamp class, so we can tailor your session to stretch or rest that muscle group after a hard workout. 23.01.2022 Looks like it’s going to be hot weather to welcome back the start of Pilates on Yorkes for 2021! This provides a timely reminder of our heat policy for classes in the coming summer months. If the temperature is 36 degrees or above, and/or it’s an extreme fire danger day due to heat and wind, classes in the studio will not run and where possible will be offered as a zoom class instead. The bushfires last year highlighted the danger of clients travelling to and from class and being away from home and their fire action plan on such extreme days. 23.01.2022 Great news, you’ve been asking and they’re back! Mums and Bubs classes are back, starting Wednesday 19th at 11.00am. These classes are great for both pre and post natal, focusing on supporting abdominal, pelvic floor and lower spine issues associated with pregnancy and being a new Mum. There’s been a lot of growth since then, and the arrival of the reformers, trapeze table and props has enabled us to offer so much more to clients. 14.01.2022 It’s been a fantastic first week back in the studio with everyone this week, it is so good to be back teaching and getting people moving again. Thank you all for your support coming back. One thing we learnt, maths came in handy at last. When measuring the 4 square metre per client PLUS 1.5m physical distance between each client, it’s a HUGE allowance between each mat, reformer and piece of equipment. As such we are booking less clients in each of our sessions and they book out fast, so if you’re keen for next week I’d recommend you book your favourite timeslot asap. A bit of back story, apparently catching all these mice has woken the dogs’ long-dormant hunting instincts, and one of the dogs decided to run off into the sandhills on our beach walk yesterday in pursuit of who knows what! I sprinted off after her and was so proud of myself because I actually caught her!! Who knew I could still sprint?? 08.01.2022 Jumpboard is a great way to get the heart rate up in these cold days. Feet in turnout is just another way to increase the challenge, strengthening all the leg joints and muscles. 06.01.2022 Those of you who love a set of pikes on the chair might have to wait a little longer sorry.. Due to the current covid outbreak in Adelaide, all gyms studios etc are closed again for at least a fortnight. We will keep you all posted as restrictions ease, and if there are any further changes to our class delivery. Lucky it’s beautiful living weather to keep moving outside which is still allowed - so roll out the mat on the lawn for a stretch, walk the dog, go for a swim or ride, and see you all hopefully soon. 06.01.2022 It’s so interesting how one post about anterior tilt hip posture has received so much interest over the last couple of weeks. In addition to hip and lower back discomfort, it can also contribute to neck pain due to forward chin thrust because of poor upper torso posture, and internal rotation of legs and feet which in turn leads to hyper extension of knees and flat pronated feet. All from not strengthening hip flexors and deep core muscles and maintaining a neutral lower spin...e. Who knew? We did! So if any of the above sounds familiar, feel free to get in touch to book in. 02.01.2022 Hi everyone. So you may have heard that restrictions are lifting in part on Saturday night. As a result pilates could in theory resume next Monday. However we are using the week to quickly replan and rebook Felix and Liv’s wedding (which got cancelled for tomorrow due to lockdown) for the following weekend. Liv has invested a year into this planning and had it cancelled twice already due to covid. We’re going to make it happen in a week!! See you when I have a new daughter.
