22.01.2022 MOVEMENT A group class is a chance to move, and groove, with others. You're basically joining a tribe that supports and encourages you to move as much as you can at that time and place. People with no other connection apart from being a member of that tribe are cheering you on. It enables you to feel connection to other human beings and that is a powerful feeling. What's your tribe?... #dothething #itsoktofail

14.01.2022 MOMENT A moment of stillness can be a wonderful thing.... Sometimes I do my best thinking upside-down. And so it was the other day while searching for more of a back-bend (in a body that doesn't) my mind wandered onto the idea of 'messy' Pilates. ... Messy. Pilates. Do those words even look right together? And if not why not? I don't know about you but there is this thing, this concept, that got drilled into my head a long time ago that when practising Pilates it should look a certain way. There is an element of ease or grace of an 'advanced' practitioner if viewed from afar as they go through a workout. But.... If something is looking easy or graceful, or dare I say it, 'neat', then maybe it is too easy. Maybe those who do 'neat' sessions aren't really challenging themselves or pushing their boundaries for strength. Maybe being 'neat' isn't all that impressive after-all. Test your boundaries and venture into messy territory. Increase the springs. Do more reps than Joe says to do in 'Return to Life'. Find your failure point by actually failing. Messy. Pilates. (Maybe it does go together after-all) #dothething #itsoktofail See more

09.01.2022 REACH As you advance your Pilates skills some of the moves seem to get more complicated. In reality they get simpler, as you've already laid a thorough foundation of movement in your body and brain and things start to become automatic. So how do you advance further? One hot tip I have for you is trying not to internalize your movement and instead use external goals. What does that mean? It means to not concern yourself with moving with 'X' muscle or squeezing ...'Z' muscle more. Instead reach your foot closer to the ceiling or press the mat through the floor. Try working with external focus - you'll take your Pilates training to the next level! #dothething #itsoktofail Mode Imagery See more

04.01.2022 SOON So.....we have news I'm very excited to share with you all that the studio will be expanding very soon by nearly 1/3 and creating a much larger space. We will be knocking out part of the wall to the south (Bruno's wall) and taking over the space next door. This expansion will give us a dedicated Mat-work space, Studio space and Reformer class space. We've already received the first pieces of new equipment and 5 more Reformers are on their way to us. As such we... will be able to offer slightly larger Reformer classes (6 Reformers) AND Studio classes AND Mat-work classes at the same time! Its all very exciting! There will be a Saturday soon in February when we will need to cancel all Saturday classes - this is the day the renovations will be in full swing so we can't have any classes then. So if you have a Saturday booking suddenly get cancelled on you now you know why. Where possible I will give you as much notice as I can but I will be a little tied to what availability our builder has - I hope you understand.

04.01.2022 ANTI-FRAGILE When you think about it the human body is pretty amazing and a lot more robust than you give it credit for. For some people looking at the above picture they would say 'Ouch!' or be worried that I will hurt myself, particularly if they knew I had major back surgery many years ago. They would be concerned that something would go wrong or that something would break. That the body is fragile.... But guess what - we're not fragile. We're the complete opposite of that. We are anti-fragile. The human body gets stronger and more robust when progressive loads are placed on it. Muscle, bones and connective tissues adapt and respond over time. Its why you can go further, faster or heavier over time as you exercise. You don't get frailer - you get stronger! Thats how I can do the above - progressively, over time. Celebrate your anti-fragile body! #dothething #itsoktofail

03.01.2022 ENJOY Ok, so we know doing movement is good for us and that it's important to do every week, but did you like it? I mean did you really have fun doing those next 50 burpees or 100 sqwatz (yes that is how it should be spelt ). Often overlooked in the discussion of movement and exercise is the enjoyment factor. An exercise is pretty useless, no matter how scientifically proven it is to be beneficial to you, if you actually don't really want to do it, or worse sti...ll, boring as bat-shit. Exercise and movement will only be useful if it is actually done. Too often people give up on something because it got boring or they dreaded doing it. We have decided to include enjoyment as part of the fabric of our studio - it's built into the principles of our classes, but there is actually an important reason for that. Your expectation of what a movement or class will be like has a great influence on the outcome of that movement or class. If you think its going to be horrible and boring, then guess what - it probably is. Pilates might not be your jam, and I'm cool with that, but find the thing you enjoy doing and do that. #dothething #itsoktofail @modeimagery
