22.01.2022 Over the course of this year 27 properties have been visited to implement control programs for 5 different weed species. A big thanks to the contracting crews for their great efforts over the year. Another big thank you to all to Stations and their crews for their hospitality and cooperation! The season is still in full swing at the PMMC and we are expecting to wrap up the on-ground control programs for the year by the end of the month. Jo will continue to do follow up monitoring across a number of sites in the Pilbara.

15.01.2022 Big thanks to the Pilbara Regional DBCA and DPIRD team for a great few days of weed surveillance on the islands out of the coast of Mardie Station and Karratha. Good to see the Mesquite and cactus havent established, unfortunately the Buffel grass and Kapok bush are on most of those lovely little islands. It was a bit of a rough ride home but Skipper Steve and Sirenia III got us there in one piece.

10.01.2022 Public Awareness Announcement The De Grey River Rest Area has been closed for over a week now due to a recently discovered infestation of Noogoora Burr. Over the weekend (instead of heading to the Marble Bar Races) PMMC along with Main Roads, De Grey Station and DPIRD staff members have worked to control this infestation before it spreads any further. This weed poses a significant risk to Pilbara pastoral and conservation assets as it is toxic to animals, easily spread and ca...n outcompete native vegetation. Travelers are advised to check their swags, vehicles, clothing etc when moving between areas of the Pilbara and if they do come across this plant to please let us know immediately by contacting Jo on 0456 000 487. Also, please be advised that the De Grey River Rest Area will be closed until further notice as we are still working with stakeholder to contain this infestation.

08.01.2022 Follow-Up monitoring of Parkinsonia in the Fortescue River on Roy Hill Station. These survey results were great, with only 24 plants sighted.

06.01.2022 Thanks to everyone for reporting sightings of Noogoora Burr in the Pilbara! It is a great help in our efforts to stop this toxic weed spreading any further. There are a few common weeds in the Pilbara that often get mistaken as Noogoora Burr; hopefully these info-sheets might help ID them. Heaps of weed identification resources can also be found at www.agric.wa.gov.au. If you do think you have seen Noogoora Bur in your travels please contact DPIRD Karratha office or the PMMC.

05.01.2022 Even though its still a bit warm out here, the 2019 PMMC on-ground work program is kicking off a bit earlier this year thanks to just enough rain to get the Noogoora Burr germinating along parts of the De Grey River. Starting in mid February the PMMC team will be treating the burr (hopefully) before it produces any more seed. 2019 is going to be busy along the De Grey () with more treatment and containment works for the burr as well control of Parkinsonia along the whole catchment. The work this year is being supported by the NLP2 Program with long term partners Rangelands NRM, the State NRM program, Bettini Beef, Main Roads WA and of course the fantastic Station crews.
