23.01.2022 When we rebuilt our station lead trailer, I deliberately requested 2 dog boxes to be built onto the front of it, up high so my dogs wouldnt be in the dust. What I didnt realise was we were actually just building storage boxes, seeing as my dogs have never set foot inside them, riding in the crates when they are empty & shotgun in the bunk when they arent. 19.01.2022 Riding along yesterday with Cashs head over my shoulder got me wondering how I would sum up my dogs best & worst traits in one word. So lets start with Mr Killili Cash... Best: Calm I have never met a dog with so much innate strength & calmness, in his work & his demeanour. It can make him seem quite aloof in his personality but once you get to know him, you start to learn he is a strong boy with a big heart & winning his affection feels like winning lotto. ... Worst: Peeing On EVERYTHING. & of course once one starts, the rest have to follow. 16.01.2022 Sometimes our cows need a little re-educating. These girls hadnt been walked for a few years, just yarded up at their waterpoint but this year the yards were 10kms down the road so they had to relearn some manners. I didnt want to pull them up too hard at this point as the tail was still coming through some thick washes & we had some cattle in the middle keen to head out the side so settling them down to a walk until we hit some clearer ground was the goal. 16.01.2022 Due to living out on an isolated property with a veeerrrrry slow mailing system, my wonderful cousin, Kristy has agreed to act as warehouse manager for all the PWD & collaborated merchandise that I have available. 09.01.2022 The last few seasons havent been kind & we have made the hard decision to fully destock our West Pilbara cattle station until this drought loosens its grip. As with every change in life, it comes with its own set of challenges & opportunities. We were extremely fortunate to find generous agistment for our core breeders, which has opened up the option of me finding off farm work. I have the amazing opportunity to work with my dogs & learn more about regenerative agriculture ...in our rangeland country on a station nearby, something I have been keen to learn for a while now, while also continuing to look after some of our girls in their holiday home. A new chapter in our journey & although it will be hard to not have all my dogs with me while Im away, I am extremely fortunate to have very capable dog sitters in Phil & my mum, Susan. So the puppy spam will be limited, Im sorry but Ill try to make up for it when Im home. For those on the road travelling through the area, Cheela Plains Station Stay near Parabardoo is an amazing place to stop & spend some time. The people are lovely, the view spectacular & the food delicious. And if you are so inclined, you are welcome to meet my Pilbara Working Dogs team after they have knocked off from their days work.
