25.01.2022 "Some of the major recommendations include more supervised drug use rooms, a prison needle and syringe exchange program and state-wide clinically supervised substance testing including mobile pill testing at festivals." "Commissioner Dan Howard also called for the decriminalisation of drugs for personal use, and he urged NSW Police to stop using drug detection dogs at music festivals and to limit its use of strip searches." https://www.abc.net.au//ice-inquiry-findings-decr/12006176
25.01.2022 Big love to Party In The Paddock, advocating for common sense #harmreduction is incredibly important. Thank you! <3
25.01.2022 Dan Andrews determined to stand fast in his opposition to a proven harm reduction strategy despite the looming festival season and the associated harms from withholding knowledge and facilitating stigma.
24.01.2022 A significant day in the advancement of this important harm reduction strategy in Australia. Our thanks to all the politicians and media who attended. Our appreciation also to Jen Ross-King for her continued advocacy in the midst of indescribable grief. We will get there eventually! #pilltesting #harmreduction #auspol
24.01.2022 The more visible and accessible you make a #pilltesting service the more it's used. This equates to less harm in society and and opportunity to reach out to people who use drugs. It's a win for everyone! https://mobile.abc.net.au//push-for-permanent-pi/12014604
23.01.2022 A few quotes to illustrate the massive disconnect between science and policy this morning. The leading academic, who contributed information on medical management at music festivals for the globally cited Oxford Handbook of Addiction Medicine, also helped create the NSW Health guidelines on festival harm reduction published earlier this year. In a statement tendered to the NSW Coroners Court, Dr Brett said there was some evidence the presence of police and sniffer dogs didn...'t reduce drug-taking at festivals and users "may be more likely" to consume drugs "upon becoming aware of police ... increasing the risk of toxicity." Meanwhile.. Detective Chief Inspector Gus Viera, who led the police operation at the event where Mr Tran fatally overdosed, replied, "no," when asked during the inquest if he could see any positive aspects to music festivals for young people. "As a father to two daughters, I wouldnt let them go," the commander of the Region Enforcement Squad in Wetherill Park told the inquiry. "Im not a fan at all." When pressed by Ms Dwyer, on whether young people getting together to socialise and exercise through dance could be seen as positive, he replied, "if you put it that way". But when Ms Grahame asked him if he wanted music festivals shut down, he responded that he did. :/ https://www.smh.com.au//stuck-in-war-on-drugs-says-nsw-hea
23.01.2022 Weve never been comfortable with young people being strip searched. Studies suggest the trauma experienced is equivalent to sexual assault & thats a long way from #harmreduction. Thats why we advocate for front of house pill testing. Being FILMED is another level of violation, its dehumanising and we believe these methods are causing untold, long lasting mental health issues to those people who are subjected to them. This needs to stop, we need to start looking after ou...r young not scarring them for life. #Auspol #pilltesting https://www.theguardian.com//nsw-police-are-told-to-film-s

22.01.2022 Our good friend across the ditch Chlöe Swarbrick is a shining example of an educated and wise politician who understands that evidence and science should be the driving factors for policy reform. A stark contrast to the publicity hungry, puerile antagonist we've been dealing with over the last few weeks. <3
20.01.2022 Our thanks to all parties for meeting with us and the ADTC for their facilitation.
19.01.2022 Such a powerful report. Our thanks to the Deputy Coroner for her wisdom & pragmatism. We are ready to help educate & provide knowledge to young people that we know changes behaviour.... No more arguing #auspol, while we argue people risk their lives with no health intervention. #pilltesting #harmreduction https://www.smh.com.au//faces-of-these-young-people-will-r
19.01.2022 Dr Marianne Jauncey has been medical director at the Uniting Medically Supervised Injecting Centre since 2008 and she has an eloquance and empathy that is often lacking from the debate aorund #harmreduction and #pilltesting. For those that don't have access to The Australian, she makes a very salient point in this article..... "As a mother I want what all parents, carers, and extended families want: for our children to grow into happy, healthy adults. We want them to be alive..., more than anything. Those words are crucial: More. Than. Anything." "We cannot keep allowing fear to hold back critical reforms that have been proven to protect our kids and save lives." https://www.theaustralian.com.au//731129b53ee4e41926bf232a
19.01.2022 Some of you may have seen this article on the weekend. We want to be clear that there is no disagreement on what is considered best practice pill testing and the agreement on how we can actively reduce harm is in fact substantial. Front of house #pilltesting which allows health practitioners to have face to face interventions with consumers is a multifaceted service which not only identifies the purity and potential contaminates in a substance but also allows factual infor...mation to be given to a demographic that is traditionally evasive and secretive due to years of judgement and stigma. It is a health orientated service and outreach at its core. We have already conducted these services in Australia and more will undoubtedly be conducted in the coming months and years. What we would prefer NOT to see is a considerable step back from what we and many others consider to be peak #harmreduction. To borrow some words from Dr David Caldicott.... We place those that we are trying to help at the very centre of our endeavours - we have created our Trans-Tasman Charter to ensure that we dont forget who we are, and who we serve. The public health mantra for the marginalised, Nothing about us, without us, means something. You can read about the Trans-Tasman Charter here: https://pilltestingaustralia.com.au/trans-tasman-charter/ https://www.smh.com.au//pill-testing-community-divided-ove
17.01.2022 Jennie Ross-King is one hell of an inspirational woman! We can't thank her enough for her continued advocacy and strength. We will eventually prevail against the naysayers and doubters, we have too much to lose and 20+ years of evidence behind us. <3... https://www.smh.com.au//enough-is-enough-festival-victim-s
17.01.2022 We would like to share the video of Pill Testing Australias Gino Vambuccas recent speech addressing politicians, media and industry representatives at Parliament House Victoria on the urgent need to implement front of house #pilltesting and how it can help reduce drug harm in our community. Our thanks to the Victorian Greens, Tim Read MP and Samantha Ratnam - Leader of the Victorian Greens for the opportunity to talk about this important evidence based #harmreduction strategy which we hope to see implemented around Australia before more young lives are lost. #harmreduction #springst #druglawreform #drugreform
16.01.2022 A new survey by Eventbrite shows an overwhelming level of support for #pilltesting at live music events with 77% of respondents backing the important harm reduction strategy. We couldnt agree more, which is why were not going to give up until politicians around the country accept the evidence behind pill testing and understand how it reduces drug consumption and harm! There's no question we need pill testing rolled out nationally ASAP!... #auspol #harmreduction
16.01.2022 Great to see politicians working together on important policy reform. <3
15.01.2022 More often than not these days we must turn our collective heads east and look across the ditch to New Zealand for leadership, compassion and common sense around #harmreduction and #druglawreform. Great article from Ross Bell, Executive Director of the New Zealand Drug Foundation. https://www.drugfoundation.org.nz/matters-of-subs/july-2019
13.01.2022 Congratulations to Victorian Greens and Tim Read MP for their draft #pilltesting legislation that was presented at the Victorian Parliament today. It was a great opportunity to catch up with Tim Harvey from Rainbow Serpent Festival and Julia Robinson from the Australian Festival Association and a bunch of other supportive groups like Students for Sensible Drug Policy Australia who want to see this important #harmreduction strategy implemented ASAP.
13.01.2022 Were here in Canberra this morning for the very first live demonstration of #pilltesting with our FTIR spectrometer. We look forward to explaining to #auspol how important front of house pill testing is in reducing drug harm in our community. #harmreduction
12.01.2022 This is what front of house #pilltesting looks like in action in the context of a large multiday music festival and why we advocate for no lesser option. Font of house pill testing represents the most effective methodology of helping to keep people safe. No sniffer dogs, no degrading strip searches and no combative, traumatising encounters with police. People willingly engaging with health professionals and taking an active interest in their own wellbeing. Nothing else comes ...close. Our congratulations to Shambhala Music Festival and Ankors Education West for setting the benchmark of #harmreduction high, where it needs to be. Pill Testing Australia has already conducted these services at two festivals in Australia and we all work tirelessly to see this level of peak harm reduction rolled out nationally. https://www.facebook.com/shambhalamusicfestival/videos/367017363959309/
12.01.2022 Julie and John Tam have spoken for the first time about their son's death and we want to acknowledge their bravery and pragmatism in what must be an unfathomable ocean of grief. Our thoughts and love are with them and the rest of Joshs family and friends. <3 Joshs parents in no way condone drugs or drug taking, but say parents need to realise you cant stop some kids taking drugs.... It is incredibly sad and frustrating that there are politicians who still feel doubling down on failed policies and blocking a proven harm minimisation strategy is more important than a young persons life and the grief of their loved ones. #pilltesting #auspol #druglawreform #harmminimisation https://www.9news.com.au//1ffd5dd8-45dc-4ca7-b220-bc4469aa
11.01.2022 We've known pre-loading pills has been a "thing" since drug dogs have been used at festivals and events and we know it can be fatal. :( Alex Ross-King died after taking an unusually high amount of MDMA before arriving at a festival because she was afraid of being caught by police. Current strategies are a long way from #harmreduction & why #pilltesting needs to be rolled out nationally!... https://www.theguardian.com//festival-overdose-victim-took
11.01.2022 #BREAKING Draft NSW Coroner's report has recommended #pilltesting at festivals and an end to strip searches and the use of drug dogs. #auspol likely to resist the advice of experts and Coroner for unknown illogical, ideological reasons. #harmreduction #druglawreform
10.01.2022 We could try and say it better than former police commissioner Mick Palmer but we would fail. "The current police methodology, including surveillance and the use of sniffer dogs, defies the purpose that has always been at the very core of pill testing: enhancing engagement with a demographic that will not traditionally access drug-related health services. We need to directly provide them with information and strategies so they can take steps to reduce the harm to themselves and their friends." https://10daily.com.au//former-police-commissioner-weaker-
09.01.2022 We hope common sense can finally prevail with the introduction of this bill by the Victorian Greens. Much and support to Adriana Buccianti for her continued strong advocacy for reform! We hope Daniels Bill will soon be a reality. We encourage Dan Andrews to listen to the many health bodies and experts that recommend #pilltesting as a proven evidence based strategy for reducing the harms from drugs. Surely it is worthy of a trial in Victoria, the most "progressive" state ...in the nation! https://junkee.com/victoria-pill-testing-greens/216609
08.01.2022 Thanks to Fiona Patten MP for the invitation to demonstrate front of house #pilltesting at #springst this morning. An incredibly receptive group of politicians and media who should now understand exactly why this important, evidence based #HarmReduction strategy is so badly needed in Victoria as soon as possible.
07.01.2022 This morning we released our detailed operational report on the second Australian pill testing pilot conducted at Groovin the Moo Canberra in April. There is no doubt among experts and health industry bodies that providing a pill testing service which includes face to face interactions for patrons with health and medical professionals significantly reduces harm and the consumption of dangerous illicit drugs. You can read the full report by clicking here:... https://pilltestingaustralia.com.au/report-on-the-2nd-act-/ An independent evaluation conducted by the Australian National University will also be released later this year.
07.01.2022 After releasing our detailed operational report on the second Australian pill testing pilot conducted at Groovin The Moo in April, We are incredibly excited to launch an advert to support and drive conversation around pill testing at festivals. The advert directed by Dylan Harrison from Hooligan Collective, shows a young man hesitating at the top of a cliff while his friends dive into the water below. A labcoat-wearing woman appears beside the young man telling him that she c...ant stop him from jumping but she can help him mitigate the risks by looking at whats inside. The scene then cuts to a pill testing tent at a music festival. The implication is clear: taking a pill without pill testing is like taking a blind jump off a cliff. We applaud the creativity of Dylan Harrison for producing a very relevant and strong community service announcement around the important harm reduction strategy. The fact that members of the Australian public like Dylan feel so motivated to play an active role in advocating for pill testing to be introduced, is incredibly rewarding for all the public health practitioners and volunteers involved with our work. <3 Please share. :) x
06.01.2022 The independent study of our second pill testing trial has been released. Guess what it says!! #pilltesting #harmreduction #auspol
05.01.2022 Jen Ross-King was at Splendour in the Grass along with Pill Testing Australia and she wants change to protect young people. A powerful segment from ABC Australia https://iview.abc.net.au//7-30/series/0/video/NC1901H113S00
04.01.2022 DanceWize knows where it's at! <3
04.01.2022 Amazing push for #harmreduction and #pilltesting with Fiona Patten MP and the Victorian Greens combining their influence and passion for evidence based healthcare. <3 We couldn't ask for better advocates. Please get behind this campaign and let's make our voices heard.... loud and clear! x
03.01.2022 Given the recent recommendations by the NSW Deputy Coroner, We are excited to share a short video which highlights the harm caused by preventing young people from having knowledge about the content of their drugs. The one-minute piece produced by Sydney based Andrew McWilliam is titled Dont Leave Young People in the Dark and shows a young person heading off to a music festival blindfolded. By providing pill testing at festivals we can start to remove the blindfolds and pr...ovide people with information that we know changes their behaviour said Pill testing Australia spokesperson Gino Vumbaca. By engaging with people who use drugs and by providing scientifically backed knowledge, our pill testing services can achieve a reduction in the number and volume of drugs consumed and consequently reduce harm. said Mr Vumbaca. This is the second video produced in Australia for Pill Testing Australia in the last six months. We continue to be overwhelmed with the support for Pill Testing Australia by members of the Australian public who recognise the urgent need for this proven harm reduction strategy. Said Mr Vumbaca. The fact that people are donating their valuable time and talent to assist us with advocating for best practice harm reduction keeps us motivated and driven to succeed. <3 #pilltesting #harmreduction https://vimeo.com/375088503
02.01.2022 We are incredibly fortunate to have the advocacy and passion of Jennie Ross-King beside us. Jennies daughter Alex, and 5 other young people where subject to a Coronial Inquiry into deaths at Music Festivals over a 5-month period. While we wish Jennie and other parents who do an amazing job lobbying for change never had to be in their situation we are appreciative of their work and support.... <3 https://mailchi.mp//media-announcement-2nd-december-224300
01.01.2022 For starters it's telling that we could only find one article in Australian papers (which was paywalled) on "Support. Don't Punish. Day" - which is a global grassroots-centred initiative in support of harm reduction and drug policies that prioritise public health and human rights. Today the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) releases its 2019 World Drug Report and thousands of people in cities around the world will rally is support of public health-based, global... drug policy reform. What many people don't realise is punishment historically is a massive failure when it comes to the psychology of behaviour change and only continues to isolate and stigmatise those who require our support and love to make healthy life decisions. There is no question as a society we need to move away from punitive strategies which cost more, cause more harm and have little to no positive impact on our community. By extending our love, patience, empathy and understanding we can achieve great things for those that are looking to feel included and valued. <3 Turns out the Beatles had it right all along, love IS all you need. x https://www.forbes.com//rally-at-united-nations-for-tomo/
