25.01.2022 We are progressing with the installation of the shed extension. The slab is down and we now await the shed structure to be commenced. Other than that we have been completing a few minor projects. Stan and a few of the boys have completed a number of wooden 'hands' for the Norfolk Village State School that will be used in the Year 6 graduation, Max and Wazza have completed a toilet access frame for a disabled child. Frank has installed metal handrails for the shed access ra...mp. Gordon is progressing with his refurbishment of a old rocking horse The other Frank has organized a fishing charter for a number of the boys for early December. There was a lot of interest in it. Looking for the photos and the bragging rights. Stan and John have completed their woodwork training exercise for some of the students at Norfolk Village State School. They seemed happy with their boxes See more

25.01.2022 Well the shed looks like a garage sale location. There are bits and pieces everywhere awaiting cutting, assembly, painting. We have been requested to construct up to 14 buddy benches for local schools along with a number of other projects. We are steaming ahead. There is a buzz in the shed. The boys are working to meet the deadlines. We attended the Seniors Expo at the Ormeau Community Centre to display our wares and services. We also raised $1,000 at our Bunnings bar b cue last Friday and have donated it to the farmers drought fund - every little bit helps. Photos below relate to our activities

25.01.2022 The Spring temperatures seem to be lifting the spirits in the shed with more members attending. With the AGM just around the corner, there has been a been a lot of cajoling, browbeating and other forms of coercion to fill positions. Despite this, it has been good to see the extent of interest. Thanks to GCCC for their COVID-19 Community Organisation Hardship Grant. The funds are greatly appreciated and will certainly assist with the operating budget. We conducted our regu...lar fire evacuation drill to refresh everyone with the process. We had a nutritionist from Dudefood Dietetics provide some sage advice relating to foods and health for us older community. Nigel is progressing with the jewellery box project with members heading into the home stretch (maybe completed next Saturday). There are some challenging projects underway at the moment but we need more to keep the old buggers busy. See more

25.01.2022 There has been plenty happening. In June, we conducted a Gold Coast mens health expo. Griffith University Health Unit were exceptional partners in the venture. We also had our five year anniversary dinner at the Woongoolba hall. We have also attracted a number of projects from schools and community organisations. This has been fantastic as it keeps the boys happy Attached are some photos of activities in the shed. Dave works the CNC router making bird boxes. John is preparing some small picket fences for a school. Max replaces a sanding belt.

24.01.2022 We were honoured to have Stan, Frank and John presented with a Northern Gold Coast Volunteer Award by Stuart Robert MP for their pioneering work in developing and conducting a woodworking program for the students at the Norfolk Village State School during the year. It seems like we have picked up a few community projects in the past few weeks. Dave and John are refurbishing an old horse-drawn wagon that needs some love, They are replacing the timbers and refurbishing the ...steel work. Max and Frank are preparing a trailer drawn sign frames. Peter is preparing a memorial bench in honour of a Springbrook resident. We are also embarking on a program of bread board production. Rob is in charge of that one. Other than that, the Christmas lunch for members and partners will be held in early December. Photos show Frank and Max working on the steel A frames, John and Dave starting the refurbishment program on the wagon, Phill sorting out the tool room, Dave whipping up a project on the lathe and Stan, Frank and John receiving their Community Award from Stuart Robert MP See more

24.01.2022 The shed is full of Buddy benches. Many are still to be completed. This is a project initiated by Michael Cranston MP. Thanks Michael for requesting our involvement. Peter, Frank and Stan have been the main constructors with many others lending a hand. Max, Gordon and John have nearly completed the mud kitchen for TSS. Dave is beavering away at restoring a dining room setting that is showing its age. Photos show some of the activities

24.01.2022 Well, restoration of the 'chuck' wagon has been completed after three months of remodelling, sanding, bashing and painting. Dave and John were the main workers with a number of others chipping in. It has been a great project that incorporated many of the talents of the shed members. It was picked up on Thursday and transported to the Settler's Village resort. The attached photos show Tom sprucing up the timberwork, Max and Stan shaping the metal brake guard, Dave and John standing in front of the finished product before departure, and the boys loading it onto the trailer.

24.01.2022 Its been a great month for us. We have been advised that two of our grant applications have been successful. The first is a Qld government grant for a dust extraction system for the shed. This has been a long standing priority for us. The second is a Mens Shed Association grant to conduct a health expo for all Mens sheds on the Gold Coast. We have also been advised that GCCC will provide us with a shipping container to store our trailer and stuff currently stored in the shed. Thanks councillor Gates and GCCC for their efforts with this.

24.01.2022 The shed will be closed on Easter Monday and ANZAC Day. We will be up to our necks with Bunnings bar b cues on those days. We will, however, be open on Easter Saturday. 43 shed members and partners attended a luncheon at the Coomera tavern. There was a great turn out for the festivities. An honorary membership was awarded to Michael Jenkins who has contributed continuously to the development of the shed since its inception in 2013. Nash from the public Trustees made a pre...sentation about wills preparing and powers of attorney to members an partners. Photos show revellers at the Coomera tavern lunch, president Graham presenting Michael with his award, Nigel instructing Steve, Peter and Jeff on how to install a bridge onto their ukuleles, Frank and Max straighten the shaft on a crusty old saw bench and John and Col finish off a step for use by a a disabled school child. Well done, fellas. See more

24.01.2022 Half way through April. The temperatures are dropping but not in the shed. Max and the boys are steaming ahead with the shed extension work. The floor has been painted, the racking is being installed, the security gates have arrived ready for installation and the security cameras have been completed. Well done, fellas. We had a stall at the Ormeau Farmer's Market where a number of wooden products were sold. The market also provided a great opportunity to network with oth...er groups and pick up a few projects. Unfortunately, we also conducted the Pimpama Bunnings barby on the same day. It stretched our resources. Well done fellas and thanks for your support. There are a few projects underway. Stan is making 'bee hotels' for some schools, Gordon is preparing a lectern for an ANZAC Day presentation, the dining room chair alterations continue. Gordon is also preparing a small step for a lady. Along with this, Jeff and Warren have completed the annual test and tag program for the shed electrical tools and machinery. See more

23.01.2022 OK, so the AGM is over and nine unsuspecting soles are now ensconced onto the committee (thanks fellas). The hard work of recovering from the COVID 19 can begin. We had a morning tea at Bin'bimba Park at Pimpama for members and partners to celebrate 'no-bra' day. It was a sunny day and an enjoyable social outing. The boys finished their jewelry box project. Thanks Nigel for showing us the way. Dave presented a plague from the PMS to the Settler's Village manager, Rick, to celebrate our involvement in the covered wagon project. Jacob's Well Environmental Education Centre sent us some photos showing what has happened with the 50 bird boxes that we made for them. It appears that possums are also taking advantage of the accommodation.

23.01.2022 Dave and John have been busy on a project at the shed. They took on the refurbushment of a horse drawn wagon that had been used as a feature at a retirement village. Whilst the wheels were refurbished by others, the wagon proved quite a challenge, with rotted timbers and rusted metalwork. Two months later, the main structure has been completed and is mobile. The balance of the steelwork is yet to be fitted but it is looking good. Congratulations to Dave and John and to all of the others who chipped in from time to time.

22.01.2022 Things are moving ahead slowly. We are still awaiting approval to commence the shed extension - so nothing to report there. We had our first Bunnings barbecue after seven months. It was great to get back into it and earn some valuable funds - thanks Bunnings. Also, thanks to Chris (Peter's son) who was there all day to assist with the setting up and operations of the on-line payments gizmo. Nigel conducted another session for the boys in the creation of a jewellery box. He guided us through the manufacturing techniques, machinery operations and assembly procedures. One more session and we should all have a fine present to give to our other halves. Other projects included the creation of a number of whelping boxes. Col and John whipped up a garden seat. George tinkered with the metal lathe.

21.01.2022 Its been awhile. The key activities for the shed have been the wagon (its nearly completed) and the bird boxes.(all 50 of them) are now complete. They were prepared following a request from a wildlife group in NSW to help re establish wildlife population following the devastating bushfires. We trust they will be happy with their new accommodation. We had a visit from federal member for Forde, Bert van Manen. He presented us with a grant cheque for $10,000 that will go t...owards the construction of a shed extension. Thanks Bert. Eight shed captains all attended a first aid course renewing their annual qualification. Rob is beavering away at creating the Larch bread boards for a local business. Photos show bird boxes at various stages of preparation, the boys working on their first aid course, Rob with his bread boards, the boys with Bert receiving the $10,000 cheque and the wagon nearing completion See more

20.01.2022 Another month has passed and activities in the shed have kept the boys busy. We had a presentation from Wendy Clayton from Gold Coast health about mental health. Phil has his tool room organised so that our tools can be stored and secured. The boys have been busy with their own and shed projects. Photos show Wendy doing her presentation, John running his board through the drum sander supervised by Joe, Stan and George, Darren with his resin and timber wall hanging, Ian, Gordon, Max and Frank at the Bunnings bar b cue and Phil in his Man Cave.

20.01.2022 Its starting to warm up in the shed which makes it a little more comfortable for the boys. We had a visit from Constables Brad and Siobhan from Coomera Police to talk about road rules. There were lots of questions (what is it about round-abouts that get everyone stirred up?). Peter has cracked the whip with the four new buddy benches started. The planer, thicknesser, router and the boys have all a good run. We had lunch with members and partners at the Showmens Club a...t Yatala - good meal, good fun. Darren and Ken handed over the the alphabet toy boxes to a lady who requested our services. We also squeezed in a visit to the Nerang Mens Shed to see how they do things. Thanks to Paul and the boys there for hosting us and providing some good information. Photos show six Pimpama boys attending the Nerang shed, Darren and Ken with the toy boxes (and a happy client), members attending the road rules presentation, the planers and thicknesser getting a work-out with the buddy benches and Stan and Paul working the router. 20.01.2022 We hope that everyone had a invigorating festive season. The shed is back to business (observing COVID restrictions). There have been a number of personal projects undertaken during the month. However, we need some community work to keep the boys busy. Happy to talk to any community groups/individuals about their requirements. Nine of the shed captains completed their annual CPR updates with two undertaking the first aid course. Thanks fellas. Frank is organising a fishing trip for the boys for early February - should be some good stories come out of that. The draft social/presentations program for the six months to June has been distributed. We hope that they will be well-attended.

18.01.2022 Great to see we have been recognised in Federal parliament today by Bert van Manen MP for our community work with buddy benches for local schools. Thanks Bert for the recognition and Michael Crandon MP for initiating the project

17.01.2022 Second attempt at my post. We visited the Oxenford shed as part of a shed visit program. Alan and the boys made us welcome. Frank, Ian and Stan have finished off the metal working area and acquired the equipment. We just need power now. Stan and John have been conducting a wood working session for a number of year six boys at Norfolk Village State School. The boys seemed to enjoy it. Rob and Dave have restored an old 60s school desk.

17.01.2022 We have completed a number of projects and are looking for a few more to keep the old boys occupied. John completed the lemonade stand for Colleen. We have nearly completed the photo stand prop for the GCCC to be used at the Upper Coomera Neighbourhood Watch festival to be held at the Upper Coomera Community Centre on Thursday 22 November. We will also be manning the bar be cue there - so come on down and grab a snag. We had a social day at the shed on Melbourne Cup day.... About 40 members and their partners attended to have a bar b cue, watch the race and then participate in our very own Pimpama Cup. It was a bit of fun for all involved. Photos show Tom picking up the lemonade stand with John assisting. The other photos relate to the Pimpama Cup day - the group shot, the winners and Steve, Paul and John as organisers. It was a great afternoon. See more

16.01.2022 We are finally installing the reticulated dust extraction system into the shed. Its been a long time coming. The boys have assisted the installer over the past week and its looking great. Photos attached

16.01.2022 Well, March is rolling on. We will be visiting Ashmore shed this Friday to share some ideas with the boys down there. Shed captains, Peter, Bob and Frank updated their CPR accreditation at a rather entertaining course at Coomera. We had a working bee to clean up the back area of the shed (long overdue). Thanks to Nigel, Peter, Steve, Dave and Jeff are progressing with the manufacture of their ukuleles. The CNC router course has had some delays but still progresses. We need more community projects to keep the boys busy! Anyone out there with any small projects they want done, let us know. Photos show the ukulele course, CPR update, Alan and John out the back horsing around in the clean-up and Steve and Max making a fishing rod cabinet.

15.01.2022 Well, we are open again. We are complying with the required COVID 19 restrictions including numbers attending, physical distancing etc. its good to be back. The boys have brought in their projects and we are open to undertake community projects. Photos include Max whipping up something, Rod and John working the thicknesser, Col shaping a new belt for his reduced girth from lockdown, George preparing a collar on the lathe and Ian and Ken dismantling the outside timber rack.

13.01.2022 OK, so the fishing trip planned for early February has been postponed because of the weather - never mind. A lot of fish will be happy. There has been a bit of activity at the shed. The security grills and external hand rails have been installed in the shed extension. Bob has arranged for paint for the floor. Max and the boys are sorting out the new racking. The dust extractor filters in the existing shed have been replaced after three years of heavy duty. Kurt from Lio...n Insurance Brokers has provided a presentation to members about insurance matters. Gordon , Frank and Ian have finished the rocking horse restoration and handed it over to a very happy owner (it was her horse as a five year old - now her children can enjoy the ride). President Peter organised a social outing for Pancake Tuesday. It commenced with pancakes at Maccas followed by an old buggers cricket match at the Bim'Bimba Park at Pimpama. Nine members padded up and had a good time in the park on a sunny day. Who won? Who cares. It was good fun See more

12.01.2022 Well the boys are attending the shed keeping cognizant of the COVID 19 restrictions. We had our first toolbox meeting since returning with president Peter providing the news and comments. Our main fund raiser, the Bunnings barbecues have been halted for the foreseeable future. Hence, we are seeking new community projects to keep us busy. So, keep your requests and suggestions coming. The construction of the shed extension proceeds at a slow pace with engineering reports and approvals still to be received. Secretary Vince is keeping things moving along.

12.01.2022 It has been a fund raising fortnight. We had two bar b cues at Bunnings over Easter and followed up with another at the ANZAC Day commemorations at the Uniting Church at Pimpama. The boys a bit worn out but we made some good returns. Darren belted out some cup holders on the CNC router for our colleagues down at the Ashmore shed. We hope they are happy with the result. Two of the ukuleles have been completed with two to go. Its been a great adventure creating the instru...ments. However, dont expect to hear any strains of Tiptoe through the Tulips any time soon. Photos show Peter preparing his uke for bridge attachment, installation of uke tuners, Bert van Manen MP at the Bunnings barby, line up at the ANZAC Day barby, Michael Crandon MP and Councillor Donna Gates at the ANZAC Day barby and Dave preparing the metal work for an old desk. 12.01.2022 Well we made it to the front cover of the Gold Coast Sun last week with Frank and Michael Chandon MP with one of the delivered buddy benches. The benches are certainly attracting a lot of interest. We installed two micro dust extractors in the shed to handle the finer dust particles. We had our AGM and re-elected most of the committee with two new faces. John and Michael have commenced a lemonade stand prop for a local photographer. Bob handed over his completed dolls house to Nicole from the Upper Coomera Neighbour Watch

11.01.2022 Our thoughts go out to all of the members, sponsors and supporters at this time with the advent of the COVID 19 disease. Keep safe, everyone

11.01.2022 Trusting you are all having a relaxing Christmas/New Year celebration. The shed is open on all scheduled days over the period for anyone who feels the need to make some noise and sawdust. Or, if you just want to drop by and have a cuppa, we are open for business. The new shed extension structure is complete. Vince, Stan and Max will be preparing a layout for new space. We had our end of year social lunch at the Coomera tavern during the month. Twenty three members and par...tners attended. We are hoping for a refreshed start for the new year hoping that the COVID leaves us all alone. Wishing everyone out there a happy new year.

11.01.2022 Well, restoration of the chuck wagon has been completed after three months of remodelling, sanding, bashing and painting. Dave and John were the main workers with a number of others chipping in. It has been a great project that incorporated many of the talents of the shed members. It was picked up on Thursday and transported to the Settlers Village resort. The attached photos show Tom sprucing up the timberwork, Max and Stan shaping the metal brake guard, Dave and John standing in front of the finished product before departure, and the boys loading it onto the trailer.

11.01.2022 Its been cold in the early mornings in the shed. However, the boys braved the conditions and continued with their projects and activities. Frank has done some welding work on metal handrails at the Pimpama State School, Dave has repaired an unusual coffee table, Darren and Ken have commenced some toy boxes for a lady providing the CNC router with some business. We visited the Nerang Mens Shed and shared some stories and ideas. We were approached by a group who provide ...job skills training for disadvantaged people. Photos show the boys enjoying a brew with the mobile coffee van, Dave and Phil wrestling the damaged coffee table, Frank grinding some doors for the welding area, Ken and Darren with the routed letters for the toy boxes and Max, Graham, Ken, Darren and John at the Nerang shed with the Nerang boys including honorary member Diesel the dog See more

10.01.2022 Happy new year to everyone. We are back to work at the shed. The boys have been making a helluva mess in the shed extending the tool room. This will facilitate small tool security and make life easier for Phil. Our 2019 calendar is available for members and others (thanks to councillor Gates and staff for making it all possible). Our Australia Day function for members and guests will be held at the shed promising to be a great event. We are setting up a program of visits to other sheds on the Gold Coast to share ideas and compare notes. Photos show Max working on a cranky motor, the shed calendars, a friendly water dragon living nearby and Frank, John and Phil working on the tool room

09.01.2022 We are still having good attendance at the shed in compliance with the COVID 19 restrictions. We have even had three new members join us in the last month. Whilst we are having concerns about our income streams, we were delighted to receive welcome cash donations from Halcyon Greens Pimpama and the Gold Coast City Council. This will greatly assist with operating costs. We were also happy to receive notification from Oxenford Bunnings that we will be running the sausage sizzle at the end of September. Six members took up the offer from member Nigel to conduct a workshop to make a jewellery boxes. He has a good knowledge of the machinery and timbers and has conducted a fantastic class for the boys.

08.01.2022 Our projects are dropping off a little. We are looking for more to do to keep the boys mobile. John and Frank completed the sound proofing for the dust extractor room so that the boys can hear themselves think again. Bert van Manen attended the shed to present us with a Better Communities grant cheque. It will subsidise payment for the installation of solar panels. Thanks Bert. We provided the sausage sizzle at the Upper Coomera Neighbourhood Watch fair held at the Community Centre last week. We fielded way too many quips about orientation of the onions the sausage on the bread. Peter conducted a successful fire evacuation drill at the shed. Apparently, we all passed.

08.01.2022 Things are winding down a little with Christmas/new year festivities with family and friends taking priority. However, the shed will still be open for members on all the usual days over the period. 40 members and partners attended the annual Christmas lunch at the Coomera tavern. Lots of stories, silly hats and even sillier bon-bon jokes were shared. Phil is still struggling on with the shed tools and machinery, inventory lists, the boys are painting the sound proof wall out the back and Graham and Frank are assembling resources to extend the tool room. We wish everyone a safe and fabulous festive season. 08.01.2022 Since the last post, we have received a federal government communities grant for the installation of a metal working area. This has been in the plans for quite a while so we are keen to get on with it. The ukulele workshop progresses with the units now receiving their final coats and the stringing begins. Its been good fun. We are still seeking recommendations for community projects. A number of the boys visited the Ashmore shed and came back with a few ideas for improveme...nt. Its great to see how the other sheds are progressing and handling their unique physical and operating environments. The visit program will continue!! 07.01.2022 The regulars continue to attend the shed. We encourage all members to consider returning for a visit if you feel comfortable in the times of the COVID. We are applying the restrictions as advised by the parent body and the Queensland government. The shed extensions are progressing slowly. Secretary Vince advises that we are awaiting the results of the engineers report before proceeding. Many of the boys are progressing personal projects. However, we are open to accepting community projects (we request a donation for our services to offset the sheds operating costs). Members are reminded that the membership fee for 2019/20 is now due. please contact secretary Vince for details.

07.01.2022 Well, we have delivered 13 buddy benches to Michael Crandon MP. He has implemented a great project for them. We have two more to finalise and deliver. We have also completed and installed the mud kitchen for TSS Early Learning Centre. Both projects generated a lot of interest and involvement by our members. Bob is still working on the dolls house and Dave is beavering away at restoring timber dining room set. 06.01.2022 We have made some progress with the shed in February. We have had the solar panels installed and replaced our disgusting white notice board with something more befitting our status. Eight of our members visited the Labrador shed to plunder some ideas for improvement. They are very organised and provided lots of suggestions - thanks fellas. Nigel continues his instruction for four energetic shed members in the making of a ukulele. After many hours of preparatory work, they are close to entering the assembly stage. Project work has slowed down a little in February so we are open for suggestions and enquiries. Photos show smoko with the Labrador boys with the rest related to the ukulele production.

06.01.2022 The boys are steaming ahead with personal and community projects. They have also finished off some improvements around the shed including metal stands for fixed machinery in the metal working area - no excuses now fellas! We are happy with the numbers of members who regularly attend. We are applying the protocols for the COVID 19. We are happy to discuss proposals for community projects to keep the boys active and out of their spouses' hair.

05.01.2022 The Australia Day function at the shed was a success with 21 members and guests attending. It included the traditional Aussie bar b cue, pavlova, and an Aussie poetry reading competition. The competition was fierce for the poetry competition but Michael managed to come out on top - congratulations Michael. Our resident luthier, Nigel, will be conducting a ukulele making workshop commencing this Saturday with a number of enthusiastic participants signed up. We received a... visit from fellow shedders from Ashmore last week. They wanted to share ideas about shed development and administration.
