24.01.2022 We’ve started another project! This one is pretty FADtastic! Lake fishing improvements by Pine Rivers Fish Management Association to Lake Samsonvale’s Zone 3 started on the 17th of November 2018. The deployment of twenty Fish Attracting Devices (FAD) were deployed at two locations in a plan to establish a range of sites with proven structures to improve fish habitat. Anglers with a PRFMA Boating Access Scheme Permit can enjoy the benefits of improved future catches.

22.01.2022 GOOD NEWS! As at 6 am on Saturday 2 May 2020, Seqwater recreation sites will be reopened. Therefore, the Boating Access Scheme Lake Samsonvale Zone 3 (Boral Landing) will reopen as at 6am on Saturday 2 May 2020.... The following conditions apply - keeping in line with Queensland Government directions, 1. Social distancing and hygiene safety must be maintained at all times 2. Permit Holders must stay within 50 km of their homes to access Boral Landing 3. Access is limited to Permit Holders with the maximum number of people allowed in a Tinny is two (Permit Holder and a family member or a friend), to maintain social distancing guidelines. If accessing the public launch site at Forgan Cove, it may be very busy, so please respect social distancing guidelines, and be courteous to all other lake users. THE WINTER ACCESS TIMES ARE NOW IN EFFECT. No entry to Seqwater recreation sites BEFORE 6am. Police, compliance officers and Seqwater Rangers will be monitoring recreation areas and you will be asked to leave if you are non-compliant. Sites may also be closed if Permit Holders are ignoring social distancing guidelines or contravening directions of the Chief Health Officer.

13.01.2022 Just a very small look at our Survey Event at Lake Samsonvale last week. It’s a huge privilege to be able to survey and tag fish in areas that do not have any fishing access. A massive thank you to everyone who helped organise and run the event, and to the Lake Samsonvale Water Sports Association for once again allowing us to use their facilities. We are continually collecting data from this awesome fishery to make it better and better. Tagging and surveying helps us to determine what fish are stocked each year, as well as gaining insight to the overall health and long term patterns at the lake.

11.01.2022 Once a more common catch, the Silver Perch is now a rarer sight in Lake Samsonvale. This one surprised Dennis during a morning fish on Friday. The size of the fish is one thing, looking more like a football with fins, but certainly living up to greedy Grunter standards! Apart from a small stocking in 2017/18, the last time we released a substantial number of Silver Perch was in 2008/09. So for this individual, that’s over a decade of successfully stealing live shrimp from anglers!

11.01.2022 Finally, after half a decade, water is rushing over the newly upgraded spillway at Lake Kurwongbah! The lake has returned to its previous full supply level and currently sits at just over 105% capacity. Over at Lake Samsonvale, plenty of water is still coming in from the catchment area and the dam has already risen by 1 metre.

02.01.2022 THE SARATOGA PROJECT Sunday was a very special day for the future of Lake Samsonvale’s already amazing fishery. We had a delivery of mature, breeding size Saratoga that were individually tagged then released at various locations around the dam. This is part of a massive project by the PRFMA, and led by Glenn Riley, to bolster the already increasing numbers of Saratoga in the lake, to make it THE BEST Saratoga fishery within casting distance of Brisbane! All of the fish were h...andled with extreme care, and were properly sedated for the tagging process.
