19.02.2022 When Are the Times Your Child May Need to Get Checked? Unfortunately, many times, our children are unable to communicate clearly with their parents, or let them know that they may need to see a chiropractor to get checked. ... When babies start to use their head, the curve in the neck (known as the cervical lordosis) begins to develop. This is that natural, healthy curve that we want to see as kids start to grow. However, this process can cause a lot of tension and strain to the delicate nerves and spine in your baby’s neck. If this tension is left untreated, then it can prevent the curve in the neck from developing properly. When babies start to grow and develop it will also create a curve in your child’s lower back, known as lumbar lordosis. This happens after the development of the nerve in the neck. This can create tension and strain in the sacrum and lower back which may cause serious discomfort for your child, and even prevent this curve from developing properly. Learning to crawl is a huge developmental milestone in a baby’s life, and it is an important milestone in the development of balance and coordination. Babies move in a cross-crawl motion while moving arms back and forth, which actually triggers neurological development. If your baby is struggling to crawl, they may need to be checked out. Of course, crawling and movement also means an increased chance for injuries and falls, which can cause injures and subluxations. A baby’s neurological development is never been more important than when they are learning to walk. All humans have nerves in the body known as proprioceptors which are responsible for coordination and balance. During the phase when your child is learning to walk, these nerves are still developing, which is why your child will be wobbly and fall over. Interferences in these nerves and along the spine can delay your child’s development and ability to walk. Babies and kids of all ages fall, it just happens. If your child has fallen, taken a serious tumble, hurt themselves or hit their head or neck, then they need to visit a chiropractor to be checked, unless it is a medical emergency where they need to go to a hospital right away.

25.01.2022 Physical activity is a great way to prevent and treat back pain but did you know that some exercises can do more harm than good? To avoid putting too much strain on the joints, ligaments, and muscles in your back, here is a list of exercises to avoid, as well as some alternatives. Talk to your chiropractor to determine which exercises are right for you. 1. AVOID: Superman back extensions... Most people experience quite a bit of discomfort with this exercise, and research has shown that it creates the highest amount of stress to the joints of the low back. TRY: Bird-dog The bird-dog exercise is commonly recommended to strengthen and stabilize your low back without overloading your spine. 2. AVOID: Sit-ups Although sit-ups may strengthen the abdominal muscles, they can also put a lot of pressure on your spine, increasing the risk of disc herniation injuries. TRY: Partial Crunches Partial crunches are better at isolating your abdominal muscles without risking injury to the low back. 3. AVOID: Double leg raises Having a strong core is a key component of managing back pain. Double leg raises (lifting both legs together while lying on your back) puts a lot of demand on your low back. TRY: Single leg raises 4. AVOID: Standing toe touches Stretching is important to prevent injury and reduce muscle soreness after working out. However, standing toe touches may aggravate an existing back injury by compressing the spine beyond what it can safely manage. TRY: Towel hamstring stretches Be sure to keep your back flat on the floor during this stretch.

21.01.2022 Strengthening your leg muscles can reduce the chance of falling if you do lose your balance. Strong legs will stabilize you and can make the difference between staying on your feet and hitting the ground. While any activity that uses your legs is good, it’s important to find something you enjoy. The best exercise plan in the world won’t help if you don’t want to do it. Here are some ideas: Brisk Walking Walking requires no special equipment other than a pair of supportive sho...es. Make an after-dinner walk part of your routine or leave the car in the driveway and take a walk to pick up light groceries. There are many simple ways to get moving more often. Strength Training Exercises that target specific leg muscles can be easily done at home there’s no need to join an expensive gym. If you enjoy being with a group, community centres often have exercise programs for different age groups. Boost Your Balance Your sense of balance is what keeps you on your feet without it you would not be able to stand upright. Poor eyesight, some medications and some health conditions can cause dizziness or other balance problems. These are just a few ideas to consider. Remember, anything that gets you on your feet and moving will help maintain strength and balance.

15.01.2022 ? Many people feel a lot of stress when it comes to any kind of medical appointment, and this can be amplified for a new experienced. We want you to come to your first appointment comfortable and ready to feel healthier, so here's a guide to help you know what to expect. ... Before you undergo any adjustments or procedures, a chiropractor will sit down with you to discuss your concerns and goals. If you have come in to address pain, they’ll want to understand that pain- where is it? How long has it been happening? Where is it on a scale of 1-10? Are there other symptoms? These discussions can help your chiropractor understand what may be going on and the best course of action. If you are seeking general care, you’ll want to discuss your goals for your health and how those can be achieved. This conversation will serve as a roadmap for anything else you do moving forward. Your first visit will likely involve an adjustment. This is a quick and painless process most of the time. You will lie on a table and the chiropractor can push, pull, or twist sections of your body to identify and repair any misalignments in your spine. There may be some popping or cracking sounds as the adjustment is performed, but this is expected and nothing to worry about. For some, an adjustment brings instant relief, while for others it may take multiple sessions to begin to feel the effects. Adjustments may be holistic or focused on a specific area like the back, neck, or shoulders, depending on your reasons for seeking care. Each type of adjustment will be slightly different and tailored to your needs and body. , !

11.01.2022 Are you glad you can stand or sit upright? Thank your spine, a stack of little bones called vertebrae along the centre of your back, from your seat to your neck. It supports your head, shoulders, and upper body. Your spine plays another key role: The vertebrae make a tunnel for your spinal cord. That's the set of nerves that connect your brain to most of your body. Contact or visit us to care for your spine. . .... . . . ctto: webmd.com

10.01.2022 Slouching is a sign of poor posture, and if not corrected can cause neck and back pain. Poor posture is easy, whereas adapting habits of good posture often requires conscious effort. Most people do not think about their posture until someone brings it to their attention. The benefits of good posture far outweigh poor posture. Change takes willpower. However, the rewards of good posture are well worth the effort. You will feel great, and you will look taller and appear more confident!

09.01.2022 Think about your daily activities over the past few months: have you been sitting for longer periods of time? Or maybe perhaps you have been doing more household tasks that require bending and lifting? When we overuse our joints, muscles, and tendons, injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome can develop. But there are things you can do to reduce the risk and strengthen your body while you tidy up around the house. 1. Warm up... With any type of physical activity, it is very important to warm up. Before you start cleaning or organizing, walk around the house or do some simple stretches to help prevent injury. 2. Break up heavy loads Think back to the last time you did groceries. Did you carry all the bags into the house at once instead of taking multiple trips to the car? We know how tempting it is to make fewer trips, but you may be risking an injury. Take the extra few minutes and only carry a few bags at once. Don’t drive? Consider investing in a cart or buggy rather than carrying heavy bags. 3. Divide and conquer Do you save chores for your day off and power through your list? Dedicating 30 minutes every day to your household tasks can decrease your stress and risk of injury or fatigue. 4. Maintain proper posture Vacuuming and mopping the floors often require excessive bending, reaching, and twisting. Avoid stretching out your arms and bending at the waist. Instead, hold the vacuum or mop handle close to your body and walk back and forth with it. Keep your spine relaxed and neutral while doing these chores. Your back will thank you! 5. Switch it up Prevent unwanted strain on your shoulders, neck, and back and use both sides of your body when cleaning. Occasionally, consider cleaning the bathroom tiles or washing dishes with your non-dominant hand. Credits: Canadian Chiropractic Association

08.01.2022 When sitting for long periods of time, it is easy to begin to slouch or lean unknowingly. Over time, this poor posture can cause serious back pain that can lead to chronic back problems if not corrected early. Using good posture minimises the gravitational pressure on your spine for improved comfort and reduced the risk of back pain. Here are some tips for practising good posture when sitting: Keep your head and neck aligned directly above your shoulders. Keep your back again...st the backrest of your chair. Keep your shoulders back and square with your computer screen. Keep your upper arms parallel to your spine by moving your chair close to your desk. Keep your feet flat on the ground and do not cross your legs. Keep your knees at a 90-degree angle and use a footrest if necessary. When adjusting your posture, remember to keep your body relaxed. If you already experience office back pain, a stiff posture can increase neck and back pain.
