23.01.2022 The HomeBuilder scheme currently provides $25,000 grants to eligible people building a new home or renovating an existing one. It had been due to expire at the end of the year but will be extended to 31 March, 2021, at the lower rate of $15,000. Property price caps for new builds will be lifted for contracts signed between January and March next year, rising to $950,000 in New South Wales. ... The amount of time all approved applicants who signed contracts on or after June 4, 2020, are given to start construction will also be extended, from three months to six months.

07.01.2022 Ever wondered about those piles of foam blocks stockpiled on a building site? They’re called waffle pods, and they are a key element of one of the most commonly used house foundation types in Australia. The very first time I heard the word waffle pod was when Mike and I first started dating. Mike was an apprentice and I asked him how his day was and he told me about how he had spent the day walking waffle pods up a hill because they had blown away. I still laugh whe...n I picture him on a windy day struggling trying to carry them up a hill. Anyway, the waffle pods are laid out in a grid pattern, with a space left between each pod. Steel reinforcing is placed in these spaces. Reinforcing is also placed around the edges and across the top of the whole assembly. When concrete is poured onto the waffle pod assembly, the spaces between each pod become super-strong reinforced ribs. These ribs give a waffle pod slab stiffness and consistency that ensures a solid basis for a new home. What are the advantages of using waffle pods? The waffle pod system allows more accurate specification of concrete quantities, reduces waste and boosts building site efficiency. Compared to other method of forming a slab, waffle pods create a more consistent, predictable foundation for your home. The system can also have less impact on the environment there is less soil disturbance, and no excavated rubble from trenches that needs to be transported off site. Waffle pods also provide substantial insulation under a slab. This can improve the thermal comfort of a new home. See more

06.01.2022 Considering a servery window in your new build or renovation? With the weather warming up it is definitely something that can add some wow to your project, especially if you like to entertain. We have put together our 5 top tips when including a servery window. 1. Size and scope: Make the servery large enough for people to sit at. 2. Style setting: Gas strut windows or bifolds are best. 3. Shade options: Consider an awning in a chic weather-proof material.... 4. Lighting: Practicality is key, for serving and eating at the outside bench. 5. Seating: Don’t squeeze in too many people. More than three may need a table. See more
