25.01.2022 Need a place to pull over or let faster traffic pass? These green reflectors will help you find a safe place. we often have trucks or other vehicles behind... us when towing and want them to overtake but there is no safe place for them to do so. You may have noticed some green reflectors on guide posts beside the road on some highways. These indicate that there is a safe place to pull off the road coming up soon so you can indicate your intentions and be prepared. Approximately 500 meters from a safe place to pull over you may see 3 x Green refectors, 250 meters you may see 2 x Green refectors and just at the safe place you may see 1 x Green reflectors. They are not every where as yet, but you may see them on the Burnett Highway in Queensland and some NSW highways. Not all places are maintained and they are NOT for overnight or extended stays, but just to allow others to overtake or stretch your legs and check your rig or car over. So keep an eye out for them and you will now know what they are there fore. 24.01.2022 BUCKET LIST PLAYGROUND Spring is the perfect season for outings with your little ones and who doesnt love discovering a new play space! With W...inter drawing to an end and September school holidays looming, heres one playground your tribe are sure to love... ... Hello Scotts Park, otherwise known as Rocket Park. Why the nickname of Rocket Park? Well, theres a little bit of history to this play space. In fact the park has been entertaining locals and visitors alike since the Moon Rocket arrived back in 1968! The Moon Rocket, still a key feature of the park to this day, was built by Dick West. His family all worked with horses and he learnt his blacksmith & welding skills from them and on sheep properties where he worked when he left school. Dick built his first playground 'Moon Rocket' in 1961, which he based on plans brought back from America. It was 30 feet high and was the first of 38 moon rockets found in playgrounds around Australia, including our very own at Scott's Park. He also built an elephant slippery slide and a variety of vintage cars amongst other things which are also still at Scott's Park. Fast forward till today and the park features a BMX pump track, climbing wall, climbing net, nature play equipment, sand digger, flying fox and all-abilities play equipment. Thats not all though! Besides loads more fun play equipment, it is also home to Denis very own water tower art! Safe to say the precinct has something to appeal to all - from toddlers through to teens, and even mum & dad. Psst. You dont need to wait until Spring arrives. With loads of sunny days, Winter is also a great time for some play time!

24.01.2022 Three days ago, they were dry, now, OUR PONDS ARE FULL AGAIN, after 2 years. Even though it's a bit muddy, some ducks have already found their way to them.

22.01.2022 Bats in the Belfry have got nothing on our Raptor in the Roof Space. This one tried to make a home for itself in the garage, it even offered it's lunch, ( fresh killed noisy minor) as payment. Needles to say it was eventually evicted.

19.01.2022 Seems as though Deniliquin is going for the title "Land of the Bigs"..we have Big Sky with Big Stars, Big Wide Open Plains, and now Big Campfires.....

19.01.2022 WINTER WALKS = RIVER, BUSH, NATURE, WILDLIFE One of the best times of year to don your walking shoes and explore the great outdoors is winter!... Grab your favourite jacket and winter woolies, get ready to breathe some crisp fresh air and pick a trail! But, which trail? With many walks on offer throughout Deni, we thought we would start you off with a few ideas: THE FLAT On the north side of the Edward River, follow the dirt road (Pony Club Road) down below the National Bridge and park your car at the Edward River Oval. From here you can walk along the river and into the forest, and the area termed The Flat. The Flat has been many things over the years. Its been part stock route, part camping reserve, and was often called the Deniliquin North Reserve. More importantly, its been a home, a refuge and an important gathering place for our Aboriginal community. There are still remnants of times gone by but unless you look closely, you may just pass them by. Although forever a special and significant place, its now popular with bush walkers, bird watchers and fisherman looking for a peaceful spot to set up by the rivers edge. Spend half an hour or half the day with numerous trails to explore, winding along the rivers edge, through the forest and along quiet back roads. LAGOON WALK The 1.4km Lagoons to River trail, curves through the centre of town and has signage along the way to keep you on track, show distances and highlight key attractions. Be sure to take special note of McFaull Park where the lagoon has been developed into an open air classroom to help people learn about the value of wetlands. This is the best kind of classroom. After all, it has no walls and is surrounded by nature. Whats not to love!? You may even spot rare species like the Australian reed warbler, a host of bird life and some spectacular native plants. In summary, the lagoon walk is an easy to navigate trail perfect for bikes and prams or simply a family walk, with lots of spots to stop for a break and plenty of things to interest all ages. MEMORIAL DRIVE The winding path along the rivers edge (that connects the CBD to the Island Sanctuary and Willoughbys Beach) soon branches out into the Murray Valley Regional Park with numerous tracks and trails to explore. The Murray Valley Regional Park provides direct access to the Edward River and vast bush tracks. Home to oh-so-many native animals, you could easily spend hours exploring the forest and spotting any number of local wildlife either on foot, by bike or even in your car. Best time to go? Well, any time of day is beautiful but this majestic river red gum forest really comes alive at dawn and dusk with the chatter of local wildlife. As the light softens, its got the most dreamy feel in these forests. You have to experience it, to really believe it! .... .... .... Theres a whole host of trails to explore both in our CBD and throughout the surrounding region, so organise your crew and get ready for a little winter time adventure For more inspo check out www.visitdeni.com.au

What we love? The new ramp not only looks fantastic but it is also fully accessible meaning everyone from mums and dads pushing prams to those with mobility concerns, can now enjoy this section of the riverwalk with ease. 17.01.2022 #COVID19: IF YOU LIVE IN A BORDER COMMUNITY, DO NOT TRAVEL OUTSIDE YOUR COMMUNITY NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has warned people who live in border commun...ities like #Albury, do not travel outside of your community. People who live in other parts of the state are also warned, do not travel to these border communities. The premier said she was considering setting restrictions to stop people leaving towns like Albury or Moama, to stop coronavirus spreading deeper into the state. "I do want to send a very strong warning," she said. "The probability of contagion in NSW given what's happening in Victoria is extremely high. "Do not move outside your border community unless it is absolutely necessary." www.nswincidentalerts.com

14.01.2022 HOME IN THE WILD The fauna of Australia is incredibly unique, and often a bucket list item for visitors. Afterall who doesnt love seeing a joey Kangaro...o content in mums pouch, the adorable waddle of the forever shy echidna or the mighty wings of an eagle in flight? No matter your age, its fair to say we all get a little excited when we get up close to a true local going about their day Here in Deniliquin we dont have any zoos or wildlife parks, but we dont really need them either. Wandering through the many common parks in the CBD, along the Edward River, within our forests and especially out on the plains; you're able to spot these incredible animals in their natural habitat! Heres a fun fact. Did you know we are one of the few continents to have all three groups of mammals monotremes, marsupials and placentals - and are home to more than 800 species of birds, including the iconic emu which youll find casually basking in the winter sun along many roads around Deniliquin. Even more impressive is that youll find over a third of these 800+ birds right here in and around Deni! Yep. We arent kidding when we say were a true nature lovers paradise

11.01.2022 Hi Deni Final post in this series of posts Hope it has been helpful... For anyone else still wanting to go to Victoria who does not fit into a special permit category as per the Services NSW site, here is what will happen . Our understanding is that you will have to return via Sydney airport . I am awaiting clarification if this applies to "border region" postcodes , but for now, it appears it includes everyone except special permit holders. EDIT update : yes via Sydney as a returning NSW resident, despite being in the border region. Once again border region only applies for critical services workers. Some Special permits excluded. Border zones excluded. We do not know what you are supposed to do with your car if you have gone to Victoria. Or any other issues. The bottom line is Travel is not encouraged. It is as blunt as that. That is why it will be almost impossible to do. Now of course that is difficult, and personal reasons all vary. But these are the rules because we have a pandemic we are dealing with. Quarantine upon arrival The following persons will upon arriving at Sydney Airport, be directed into 14 days of mandatory quarantine: ( this means where they tell you to go at your cost) 1 Returning NSW residents (except those who have already quarantined in Victoria), 8 Victorian education visitors 15 Persons in-transit (but only if they need to leave the airport to await their departing flight or medical and emergency reasons) The quarantine system and arrangements are the same as those for people who arrive from overseas

11.01.2022 Good morning Deni, Thanks for all the feedback yesterday regarding permits and border issues, it seems we are finally in a workable situation. Despite the incon...venience and frustration the restrictions are for our protection and we encourage everyone to be extra careful particularly when travelling. We have been hearing about people finding ways around the restrictions and would remind our community that people doing this are putting everyone at risk particularly our vulnerable older residents. We are watching with horror the situation unfolding in Victoria which has been traced back to a very few people not doing the right thing and now people are losing their lives. Deniliquin has pulled together beautifully and now is not the time to be complacent. We would like to discourage people who are finding "loopholes", it's not clever - it's stupid, it's irresponsible and it's putting all of us at risk. It's also very expensive with our police already issuing substantial fines. Stay safe, wash your hands and be kind to each other

10.01.2022 Is your pooch the envy of everyone, and the one who gets all the attention at the park?
