21.01.2022 We have some wonderful news: Pioneer Womens Hut, Tumbarumba and Glenroy Cottage Craft Shop are reopening from tomorrow! The Pioneer Women’s Hut is a nationally ...recognised one of a kind museum complex devoted to the lives of rural women across Australia. Opening hours are Wednesday: 11am 4pm and Saturday - Sunday: 10am 4pm On-site catering/cafe will not be available until further notice. 18.01.2022 Buttons!! We have them! Volunteers have been working so hard on the Jackie Fox Button Collection which will be housed in our newly completed, specially designed Button Hut. Stay tuned for the grand opening..........we have A LOT still to do, so it will be a while yet.

18.01.2022 On this day in 1902 women won the right to vote in federal elections with the passing of the Commonwealth Franchise Act. Before 1901 only two colonies had gr...anted women the right to vote: South Australia in 1894 and Western Australia in 1899. When Australia federated, the Constitution restricted voting rights in federal elections to women who held those same rights at a state level. Although the legislation was ground-breaking, it is worth noting that it excluded not only non-European migrants but also Indigenous Australians of either sex, who did not receive the vote at the federal level until 1962. 05.01.2022 Stories From the Collection: May Woodland Autograph Book A brown covered autograph book (landscape orientation) with multi-coloured pages. AUTOGRAPHS stamped in gold leaf on the front cover. The book contains hand drawn signatures, verses, drawings and paintings and is dated c. 1910 to 1916... The autograph book was given to May Woodland as a gift from her Aunt Mary Woodland. The fly leaf is inscribed: TO DEAR MAY WITH BEST WISHES FROM HER LOVING AUNTIE MARY WOODLAND APRIL 26TH 1910 Elizabeth Mary (May) Woodland The daughter of William and Mary Woodland, Elizabeth Mary (known as May) was born at Germanton in 1892 and younger brother, James, was born at Germanton in 1895. May Woodland was educated at the Lankeys Creek Public School and articles from the Albury Banner and Wodonga Express reveal that May Woodland was a diligent student and as a young woman, involved in community events. 21 December 1900 Recitation performed at school presentation by Albert Burrowes and May Woodland, ‘Little Empty Cradle’. 21 December 1900 First Class awards presented to May Woodland. 1st prize for reading, spelling, object lessons and tables. 2nd prize for writing and mental arithmetic. 1903 Proficiency prize Second Class, May Woodland. 1904 1st prize for regular school attendance, May Woodland. 1917 Joint Hon. Secretary of the Clear Springs Soldiers’ Comfort Fund, May Woodland. Along with fellow student, Albert Burrowes, May Woodland raised the school flag on 12 May 1901, to celebrate Federation. This honour was given to them as the youngest pupils at the school.
