22.01.2022 We’ve been reading our little eyes out prepping for some of our first school presentations. Today’s reading adventures took us down a rabbit hole of the importance of CALCIUM for teen girls. Studies have shown that the average diet of a teen girls is inadequate for their body’s needs in almost every area and calcium is no exception.... Recommendations are for 1300mg daily which is about 400mg more than the recommended adult intake. Why is it so important for our girls? Prepare to be mind blown We all know calcium is important for improving and maintaining bone density but did you know that MAJORITY of a woman’s bone mass is laid down during adolescence and from there onwards it only continues to reduce. Not only that but a recent study has also shown that deficiencies in Calcium can be linked to experiencing increased PMS. The study showed that increasing calcium and vitamin D intake (or adding a supplement) significantly reduced PMS symptoms. Not only that, but calcium is important in maintaining healthy weight and healthy intake has been shown to decrease risks of obesity by up to 70%. Some awesome sources of calcium are milk, yoghurt, cheese, spinach, broccoli, yoghurt, sardines and tofu.

10.01.2022 We are all about snacks at pippin girljust the hormone-friendly kind. The average snack is usually void of nutrients and high in refined carbohydrates which mess with our blood sugars. Which is totally okay in moderation. Food should be enjoyable, but it’s important to note that imbalanced blood sugars can leave us feeling agitated, tired and hangry. Not only that but it can aggravate acne and other hormone related symptoms. So how can we enjoy a snack without causing hor...mone havoc? Make sure there’s some protein and healthy fats included! You’ll learn more about food for hormones in Part 02: Bloom baby, but here’s some go-to snacks we currently love: - Bliss balls with no added sugar such as @healthlab - Fruit with nut butter (Apple slices with @noya.nutbutter ABC spread is seriously yum) - @pureharvest brown rice cakes with hummus and hemp seeds. In fact, seeds (particularly hemp, chia and sesame) have amazing hormone regulating properties, can help alleviate inflammation, reduce PMS symptoms and so much more. @mymoonbox sells an Earth Seeds blend containing exactly those three seeds. Or make your own mix and then sprinkle it everywhere (maybe not everywhere, preferably on your food)! Let us know your favourite snacks below!

08.01.2022 Which Magnesium is right for you? You’ve likely heard us rave about magnesium many times on here because of how amazing it is through the teenage years for hormones, mood, sleep, blood sugars and growing muscles. When it comes to taking magnesium in supplement form, it can be a little confusing to know which one to take, so here’s a little breakdown on the types of magnesium and their benefits so you can choose the right form. Always speak to a health professional if you are ...ever unsure. - Magnesium citrate and oxide can have a laxative effect, best for constipation - Magnesium glycinate/bisglycinate helps with sleep, anxiety, stress and headaches - Magnesium malate is best for fatigue, pain and sore muscle - Magnesium sulfate is best used as a bath or foot soak for sore muscles - Magnesium L-threonate is best for supporting cognitive function and memory Most of the time, supplements contain a blend of these to support a range of areas in the body but keep this in mind if you’re trying to target one specific thing. (p.s this is only some of the types, but the main ones to consider). Information provided by our team nutritionist @beckyjane_lucas
