24.01.2022 Happy New Year Wishing everyone a wonderful 2020 filled with much health and happiness!

23.01.2022 As we head into September and International Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we celebrate the amazing scientists across the world working together to save kids from the debilitating and too often fatal effects of childhood cancer. To make those important discoveries, we have to study as many patients of each cancer type as possible. Therefore its a no-brainer that we are more effective working together both nationally, internationally, and across culturally diverse communities." BrainChild Fellow Dr Raelene Endersby - Co-head of Brain Tumour Research at Telethon Kids Institute www.pirateshipfoundation.com.au/where-the-money-goes #discovery #collaboration

15.01.2022 Our BrainChild Ball Australis in 2018 with your help raised over $100,000 for Sindis Fund. Sindi spent more than half of her very short life fighting an aggressive, untreatable brain cancer, and passed not long before she turned 4. With the funds raised, the Brain Tumour Research team at the Telethon Kids Institute, have been able to work on an exciting new immunotherapy project. While cancer immunotherapy has proven successful for many adult cancers, its vast potential... is yet to be unlocked for paediatric brain cancer. To date, childhood brain tumours have had a way of avoiding detection from the immune system. However, Sindis Fund has helped Telethon Kids cancer researchers to test a novel immunotherapy drug that prevents brain cancer cells from hiding from the immune system. Its hoped this will enable kids immune cells to detect and destroy cancer cells more effectively. Sindis fund is exactly why the funds we raise at the BrainChild Ball are so vital and help us move closer to our vision of happy, healthy children free of brain cancer. See more

15.01.2022 We would like to introduce you to Shaun, our 2020 BrainChild, pictured here at age 5 fulfilling his wish of throwing snowballs. He had just bravely endured treatment for medulloblastoma, and while it was successful, the radiation caused a secondary brain cancer to grow 11 years later. With no treatments available, Shaun passed at age 16. We thank Shauns family for so bravely sharing their story which demonstrates more than anything the need for research into better treatments. Join us at this years Ball and be part of achieving our vision for happy healthy children free of brain cancer.

13.01.2022 It just never ends, there maybe times when youre cancer free, but the reality is it haunts the body with life long medical issues. Childhood cancer impacts on the body, its not kind, it leaves scars in its wake, they may not be visible, but they are there. All too often we hear from people saying they are young, the body will bounce back, kids handle it better . But the adult body has finished growing, a childs body is still growing, the treatments affect this, causing all sorts of trauma. As a little visual, go buy a seedling, spray it with weed killer on one part, now watch it grow - Michelle, mother to Sahara (pictured) explaining how treatments for brain cancer leave life-long damage, even where they are successful.....
