And so it was that the club song was belted out loud and proud by our young Pirates at Stuart Park yesterday after they recorded their first win of the season, a comprehensive 40-26 win over Coffs Snappers. It was a real team effort as every player contributed to this stirring victory. The boys did not have it all their own way in the opening stages of the game, with Snappers in possession and sho...Continue reading

22.01.2022 The Port Pirate winds of victory were not quite in our favour this afternoon with our Women going down 17-36 to Coffs Harbour Snappers and our U18's Boys finishing a nail biter of a match finishing up 19 to SCU Marlins 20. Well done to both teams for putting it all out on the field, the club is proud of your efforts on and off the field in 2020, through this very unique and challenging season during Covid-19. Thank you to all our players, coaches, managers, officials, volunte...ers, committee, parents, supporters and Pirates community for all your hard work and extra hours of admin and following health restrictions and protocols to make sure teams could get out on the field! (Just a reminder that our Pirates Kids and Junior Girls have two more Friday night games before the conclusion of their season.) #portpirates2020 #portpirateswoman #PortPiratesJuniors

19.01.2022 Just wanted to let you all know that Mike Reid (fit Reidy) is having a little rest in hospital, message from Sue, see below. He had a routine angiogram yesterday and those clever doctors discovered he has three blockages in the left side of his heart. We’re just waiting on a flight and a bed at Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick, for bypass surgery to be carried out. ... We’re so very grateful that this was discovered through a routine check up rather than through the trauma of a heart attack. So so lucky! I’ll keep you posted re the progress. Keep safe and keep well everyone. Lots of love to you all, Sue... and Mike too xo

18.01.2022 Game Report from our 16’s Another improved performance against a strong side. We dominated in many areas of the game, especially in the forwards, we won the scrums, they didn't want to pack in against us! We blitzed the line outs, only losing one the whole game. Unfortunately we didn't stop Zeb their star player and he was the difference again. Everybody put in and played their heart out, the score did not reflect the intensity of the game, we were always threatenin...g when we put our phases together and marched them down the field. The backs strung together some nice moves and combined with the forwards well. We still need to tighten our defence and will look at that this week at training. On the improvement side we didn't give many penalties away this week compared with the week before. Our receiving of the ball from kick off was way better and no dropped balls. Our kick off chase was better and we got the ball back a few times. On the whole a very pleasing performance and we are in the Semi Finals this week at Pirates! This is the game we need to focus on this week, if we can win this we are into the Grand Final. We need to reflect on all we've learn't through this short season and bring our A game this week, it's do or die and I for one believe we can cause an upset against the Vikings this week! Come on you you guys you can do it! Cheers Mick, Players player Adam Winter See more

08.01.2022 U14’s Game Report After a confidence boosting victory last week, the Pirates’ U14s travelled to Coffs Harbour today to play SCU Marlins in the final round of the competition before the semi-finals next weekend. The team was led out into the middle of the ground by Izaac and Kiwi, following the sad passing of Kiwi’s grandmother in New Zealand last night, with the team and coaches all wearing black armbands. There was then a minute’s silence before the game started and t...he Pirates are grateful to the Marlins for joining in, in a show of true rugby spirit. As has been the case nearly every game, the boys started slowly. Two tries to the Marlins in the first 10 minutes saw them lead 12-0. As has also been the case nearly every game, the Pirates hit back strongly, especially in the set pieces where the forwards were playing well. Some good ball retention saw the boys pepper the Marlins’ tryline in attack before hard working flanker, Hamish, crossed for a 5 pointer which was nicely converted by Jesse S. Early in the second half, the Pirates looked threatening as they made their way into the Marlins’ half. Raff scored an opportunist try from 10 metres out, which narrowed Marlins’ lead to 22-12. In the 10 minute periods before and after halftime, the boys had a real opportunity to take the game away from the Marlins but were unable to do so, mainly through some inexperience and, perhaps, a lack of confidence. However, the effort is there from every player in the team and these other attributes will come with more game time, noting this is the first season of rugby for nearly half of them. In the end, Marlins ended up with a reasonably comfortable win, largely due to a dominant display from their strong number 8. Our young Pirates competed well and showed good discipline and the coaches are extremely pleased with the way this team has come together in just 6 rounds. The boys should take a lot of positives out of today’s game as they prepare for a knockout semi-final next Saturday against Vikings at Stuart Park, with the winner to progress to the grand final. Congratulations to Daniel on a well deserved call up to play in our U16s team after our game finished. He was cheered on loudly from the sideline by a group of our boys and did us all proud. We look forward to seeing all the boys at training this Tuesday and Thursday. Best and fairest points 3 to Oli, 2 to Jack, 1 to Hamish. Player’s player was Sticks (Lucas). See more

06.01.2022 U14's Girls had two sold wins tonight with great support play, off loads, some mighty cover tackles from the wingers and some on point convertions! U6's-12's Kids also all had a great night showing strong team work and sportsmanship behaviour from all! Message from U14's Girls Coaches: Wednesday night training Jason and myself had to put a plan together for the girl's. We had 4 girl's out, 3 injured and 1 couldn't make it, which left us with 1 reserve so we told the girl's th...at only a strategic plan will win us the games. So come Friday night we were ready to play when a young girl from Gloucester showed up. Emily Marsh, Im here to help out, so off we go. We saw sportsmanship and teamwork with the girls encouraging each other. If you were at the game, you would have seen some great rugby played. Ellouise : bulldozing thorough the defence line and also made the best cover tackles you will ever see. Liberty : worked very hard in attack and made lots of ground. Shiara : worked really well guiding the team around and was a really good support player scoring 4 tries. Jasmyn : played her best game so far this year working very hard in attack and defence. She gave great encouragement to the team, as well as scoring 2 tries. Allira : always leads from the front and works hard in attack and defence. Good to see her score last night. Matilda : always gives 100%. Second half she started to hit that defence line a bit harder which was good to see. Keep working hard at training and it will all come to you. Marndah : you had a great game. Your attack was awesome taking on the defence line and also your defence was great. Nikki : your speed in attack is unbelievable if only you can get around that last line of defence would be great. From 3 weeks ago to now, you have improved out of sight. Keep working hard at training. Emily : our new Gloucester recuit, we can not thank you enough for helping us out and now you are part of the team. With 10 mins to warm up before the game, you went out there like you have been part of the team from the start of the year. Your line breaks were fantastic and so was your defence. Can't wait to see you in action next week. Big thank you to Amber and Ava for your support at the game also. #PortPiratesKids #PortPiratesJuniors #PortPirates2020

03.01.2022 To All Port Pirates, 2020 MNC rugby season is nearly at the end. What a year, what a rugby season! As an old Pirate I can’t express enough my admiration for the support from all coaches, manages and players for getting teams on the paddock even in this very hard year for the club and community. I have to thank the Pirates committee for all the work and support in making my job a lot easier.... 14s and 16s Boys can hold their heads high with their Pirates Spirit. Their coaches have done a great job mentoring these young rugby players. There would not be one player who’s skill level or rugby knowledge have not increased 100%. The coaches have brought a lot of fun and Pirates Spirit to the players. Pirates club has two teams in this Saturday's UMNC Rugby Union 2020 Grand Final at Stuart Park, the home of the PIRATES! The Pirates Women’s 10's side are in their 4th straight grand final after winning the last three. Pirates Women, with their never give up attitude have forced their way into this Saturday’s Grand Final. Pirates 18s Boys are going for three premierships in a row as most of the players were in the 18s last year and 16s the previous year. Their coaches Darren and Andy have to take a lot of the praise, for keeping the young players focused and not losing the drive to keep the fun in the game for the last few years. 02.01.2022 U14’s Match Report A promising season for our U14s came to an abrupt halt today when they came up against a red hot Vikings side in the first elimination semi-final at Stuart Park. Sadly, the boys were again wearing black armbands in a show of respect for Gus’s grandmother, who passed away during the week. There was also a minute’s silence before the game and our thanks to the Vikings’ coaching staff and players for their cooperation and understanding. And so to the ...game itself. After the boys trained well during the week, they were confident of being able to mix it with the competition favourites. However, a traditionally slow start from the team saw the Vikings skip away to a 10-0 lead after 10 minutes and from there it was a tough day out for our young Pirates. The Vikings showed their class and experience, dominating every facet of the game. Such was their control of the ball in the first half that our boys had virtually no attacking opportunities and were required to do a mountain of work in defence. The second half continued in similar fashion and, while they may have been well beaten on the scoreboard, there was no lack of effort from our boys and it is this type of resilience that will stand them in good stead as they progress through the age groups with the Pirates. In our final game of 2020, it was pleasing to see some of our less experienced players leading the way. Best and fairest points - 3 to Sauce (Will), 2 to Kaylan, 1 each to Hamish, Raff and Blake A. The coaches have enjoyed the season immensely and being a part of the boys’ ongoing rugby development (although it is clear from today’s pre-match talk in the dressing room that they have questionable taste in music!). We are grateful to our parents for getting the boys to training and games and for your encouragement during the season. While there will be no formal presentation night this year, we are looking to have some sort of get together in coming weeks. We will be in touch with the details. Congratulations to our U18s who made it through to the grand final, to be played at Stuart Park next week, and well done to our U16s who put in their best performance of the season in a spirited loss to Vikings. Good luck also to our women's team who play for a grand final spot tomorrow in Coffs Harbour. Finally, a big thank you to Debbie Williams and Leon Anderson for their help and unwavering support throughout the year. Go Pirates! See more
