24.01.2022 Des Nash Memorial! The Wingless Sprints of WA are thrilled to be running on the 21st of February at the Perth Motorplex with World Series Sprintcars and with th...e event the last chance for drivers to get laps in prior to the Australian Title, it should be a great one! Making the event even more special is that it will be the Des Nash Memorial, the timing perfect considering the fourth anniversary of his passing was just a few days ago. Des was a speedway stalwart whose legacy still holds strong within Australian Wingless Sprint Racing today. He was one of the founding members of the AWSR, becoming Vice President in its second year, a position he held until his passing. He was also a former State Technical Representative. Nash’s commitment and dedication to Wingless Sprints played a huge part in the betterment of the class over the years, not only through his work behind the scenes, but also by helping to introduce fellow racers to the class and offering his assistance wherever needed. In an initiative to honour Nash, who also had an extensive background racing Speedcars and Sprintcars competitively throughout Australia, the Des Nash Memorial will be held this year in the lead up to the Australian Wingless Sprint Title at Kalgoorlie Speedway on the final weekend in February, the perfect opportunity for drivers, from interstate or otherwise, the chance to have a run. Make sure you are at the Perth Motorplex on Friday the 21st of February as we honour Des in an event that should see a heap of cars on track!

24.01.2022 It’s Title Time! Tonight at the Make Smoking History Bunbury Speedway another chapter will be written into the history books as the WA Wingless Sprint Champions...hips is held for the twelfth time. This will be just the second time in the events twelve year history that the event will be held at Bunbury, the first being way back in season 2012/13 when Bunbury locals dominated, Daniel Keen defeating Daniel Coleman and Danny Attwood. Tonight’s event has attracted a stellar field of twenty two drivers and it will be a fight to the finish for the right to be known as WA#1 for the next twelve months. Defending champion Tom Payet will be keen to add another title to his list, already the most successful driver in the events history with four wins and another podium finish, all within the last five years. He has been racing a Speedcar this season and was in a Sprintcar much of last year, but always finds time to make guest appearances in the Wingless Sprints where he is always on the pace, so he should be a real threat tonight. Former champions Matt Iwanow, Daniel Keen and Dean Gittos are also in this weekend’s field and they will all be looking to grab their second Title Trophy here tonight. Iwanow, who won his Title in 2017/18, has also previously filled second and third place in this event so knows what it takes. Iwanow has not yet claimed a feature win this season, but had filled the podium three times, so it is only a matter of time before he breaks through and a podium at the last Bunbury show fills him with confidence. In contrast, Daniel Keen and Dean Gittos haven’t run too many races this season with the Wingless Sprints, but he will be looking to get back on the pace quickly in their quests for another title. With these four drivers all in the field it means we have the last seven Championship winners racing tonightwill one of them reclaim the Title? There is also a whole field of others desperate to claim the win this weekend, their first in a title race. Chad Pittard has two feature wins already this season and despite going upside down in Bunbury at the show back in November, raced back to come home in fifth place. He will be looking to improve on that this time out, while team mate Ash Hounsfield was on the podium at that same show, and has also got a feature win to his name this season so far. With five podium finishes this season so far, including two second placings in the last two shows, he too will leave no stone unturned in his quest for a maiden title win. Tyson Bryden won the feature race at Collie a few weeks back then grabbed another podium last week, but was a DNS in the last feature here so he will be hoping to balance out his mixed fortunes and grab a second podium finish in the WA Title. Others expected to figure prominently in tonight’s field that have already grabbed WA Title podiums include Brendon Wedge and Matty Fellowes, who are both full of confidence after a win and a fourth place finish respectively in recent shows and will both be looking to grab another trophy to add to their cabinet. Daran Humfrey comes into the show as the last start winner with a dominant night at the Motorplex on the 28th of December. Humfrey claimed wins in both of his heats then raced away to win the feature and he too will be full of confidence ahead of tonight’s show. Add in a whole pile of other drivers who are also in the field such as Brad Fitzgerald, local Kyle Beard and the well travelled Cameron Holla and Matt Burston and we have a great field sure to put on a show in their quest for WA#1. After racing a busy schedule over the last week with events at the Perth Motorplex on Boxing Day and then again on the 28th of December, the Wingless will be keen to bring the new year in with a bang! Looking through the stats, in the previous eleven years of the WA Title, there have been eight different winners, with Payet the only one with multiple victories. Delving even further, there have been a total of twenty drivers who have featured on the podium over the years. The most successful driver in the event without having a win? Daniel Hartigan with three podiums! So who will grab the crown tonight? Stay tuned! It is sure to be edge of your seat action! Release by DTN Media. Pics Courtesy Peter Roebuck. 23.01.2022 Big Week for the Wingless! The next ten days will be one of the busiest times of the season for the WA Wingless Sprint brigade. With three meetings in seven day...s, including the Boxing Day Bonanza (Thursday 26th) and the Muster (Saturday 28th) at the Perth Motorplex as well as the WA Title at Bunbury Speedway on the 1st of January, competitors will be pushed to the limit as they fight for the prizes on offer at each show. The first of the shows will indeed be this Thursday night for the annual Boxing Day Bonanza event at the Perth Motorplex, which has attracted twenty nominations. Chad Pittard, Ash Hounsfield and Tyson Bryden are all in the field and have each won feature races this season already so would love another one to add to the list. From these three, only Bryden has not won a Motorplex feature, while Hounsfield has a little extra to fight for as he currently leads the Perth Motorplex Track Championship. Of course, Pittard is just five points behind him, so every finishing position will count! Daran Humfrey and Brendon Wedge have been consistent so far this season with a number of podiums between them, and they currently sit third and fourth respectively in the Championship and will be keen to build on those standings, while others including Brad Fitzgerald, Tom Britton and Matty Fellowes will also be looking for solid results. A number of drivers have also nominated for their first show of the season including Cody Dobinson, Dean Gittos and Travis Sharpe, as well as rookie drivers Brad Howell and Gareth Smith, so that certainly adds an extra element to the racing for Thursday night. The first Wingless race is scheduled for 5.35pm this Thursday night, with three heats set to be held, each driver getting two heats, prior to a fifteen lap final. On behalf of all of us at Wingless Sprints WA, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and will see you Boxing Day! Release by DTN Media. Pics courtesy Peter Roebuck. 23.01.2022 Logue Fastest in Official Practice Victorian Peter Logue has tonight recorded the fastest time in official practice ahead of this weekends Australian Wingless S...print Championship at the Kalgoorlie Speedway. Logue recorded the fastest lap of 16.774 in his first session, then would set the second fastest lap of the night (a 16.796 second circulation) in his final session to record the two best laps overall. Chad Pittard was next best with a 16.905 while Brad Fitzgerald (16.924), Dean Gittos (16.928), Daniel Storer and Matt Iwanow (both 16.944) and Brendon Wedge in seventh place with a 16.980 were the only cars to dip below the seventeen second bracket. Less than a second would separate the top twenty seven drivers, with thirty two drivers hitting the red dirt at Kalgoorlie to record at least one lap. Racing begins in earnest tomorrow night with the finals held on Sunday night. There will be a livestream for the event available via the Kalgoorlie Speedway Facebook page. Release by DTN Media. 19.01.2022 Collie Bound! Fourteen Wingless Sprints will tonight head down the highway to the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway as they contest Round Five of the KeenQui...p Championship Series, doubling as the fourth round of the Country Series. Heading tonight’s field will be last start winner Chad Pittard, who outlasted a good field at the Perth Motorplex a fortnight ago to claim a solid win. After finally breaking through for a Feature win in 2019/20, Pittard may well have opened the flood gates and be ready to go on a roll. Of course team mate Ash Hounsfield will be a big threat, already winning races himself this season and never far off the podium, so he too will be a big threat tonight. Daran Humfrey has been consistently on the podium so far this season and would love to claim the Collie win, while Matt Iwanow has been in a similar boat and the racing between the four aforementioned drivers has been nothing short of sensational, something that should continue tonight. Tyson Bryden had the car out for testing on Wednesday night so he should be ready to go while James Bissaker has been getting better and better each time he hits the track and should be in for a good result tonight. Other names Iike Kyle Beard, Russell Seery and Warren Hunter haven’t got far to travel tonight and will be keen to put in a good performance close to home. Daniel Keen is another who doesn’t have to travel too far and is an exciting addition to tonight’s field. With a lot of racing experience, he can never be discounted while at the other end of the scale names like Stephen Hughes, and David Shaw are relative newcomers and looking to continue developing their racecraft. Racing will begin from Collie Speedway from 6pm with gates opening at 4.30pm for spectators, while for those who can’t make it, there will be a free live stream via the Collie Speedway Facebook Page starting from around 5.30pm. 18.01.2022 Hounsfield Grabs Another! Ash Hounsfield has tonight made his way back onto the top step of the podium as he took the win in the twenty lap Wingless Sprint feat...ure race at the Perth Motorplex. The win was his second this season and his sixth podium finish, not to mention allowed him to extend his points lead in the Red Pepper Promotions Perth Motorplex Wingless Sprint Track Championship to fifty four points over Chad Pittard. All twenty cars that started the nights proceedings would start the feature race, with Daran Humfrey and visiting Victorian driver Daniel Storer sharing the front row after the preliminary races were completed. Chad Pittard, Humfrey, Hounsfield and Brad Fitzgerald would claim the four heat wins. As the race went green it would be Humfrey who grabbed the lead as behind him multiple packs of cars fought for position. Daniel Storer was second before Hounsfield came from position three to grab the placing, with Daniel and brother Luke then left fighting it out for third. The yellows came on with four laps complete as rookie Blake Iwanow spun, bunching up the field again but the order remained the same on the restart. Luke would move into third on lap six before the yellows came on once again two laps later as another rookie in Shane Thomas spun. The race got underway again with some of the back markers making contact, Brad Fitzgerald also getting caught up and spinning before getting back underway. A few laps later the yellows were on again for Thomas who spun in the same spot and was sent infield, but the restart this time saw Humfrey under huge pressure. The top four, which included Humfrey, the two Storers and Hounsfield, were fighting it out in incredibly close quarters, Hounsfield all of a sudden taking his chances and fighting his way to the front as both Storers also got by Humfrey. Back in the pack Fitzgerald and Borlini would spin together, but both got back on track and up front the order never changed, Hounsfield racing away to take his seventh career Perth Motorplex victory. Daniel Storer and Luke Storer rounded out the podium in what could very well be a preview of what is to come in the next few weeks with some big shows coming up. Wingless Sprints will be back in action in a couple of weeks’ time, back at the Perth Motorplex on Friday the 21st of February for the Des Nash Memorial. With the Australian Title just one week after that show, and good prize money up on offer, we can expect big numbers for that one so stay tuned! Release by DTN Media. Pic Courtesy Aidan Skraha. 17.01.2022 Clash at Collie! Although not a points battle, the Wingless Sprints will tonight head down to the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway in solid numbers and with... the quality of field assembled, it should be another great show. Victorian Luke Storer is scheduled to finally make his first West Australian appearance for the season in a hit out prior to the Australian Wingless Sprint Championship to be held at Kalgoorlie Speedway in just a few short weeks. He will be joined by Sam Borlini aboard the Northern Territory #7 machine, as well as a great cast of the fast from WA. Tyson Bryden won the last Wingless Sprints feature race at Collie back in December and will be keen to recapture that form, while last start winner Daniel Keen, who claimed the victory at the Perth Motorplex at the beginning of the year, will be hoping to grab another win and make it a streak of two. Chad Pittard will be looking to grab another podium finish after recently finishing third in the State Title, while others including Kyle Beard, James Bissaker, Travis Sharpe and Warren Hunter will be hoping for some good results in the lead in to the Title. Rookie drivers will also make an appearance tonight, with Jye McKenzie, Blake Iwanow and Shane Thomas all scheduled to be making their debuts for the season, while on the opposite end of the scale, veteran Dean Gittos is also back in the field and looking to continue making adjustments to his #4 machine ahead of the title. On track action begins from 6pm tonight, with three ten lap heats and a fifteen lap final scheduled! 16.01.2022 Victorians Honour Des Nash! Tonight’s Des Nash Memorial was a big one for Western Australians, but it was the visiting Victorian drivers who stole the show, goi...ng one, two in the feature and unlucky not to fill all three spots on the podium! Indeed, the Victorians put everyone on notice that they are here for the Australian Title and they certainly mean business for the big shows here in WA! Luke Weel, making his first visit to the Perth Motorplex, was the man who charged through the field after starting in position eleven and made his presence felt at the front, coming home with the win after passing Daniel Storer late in the race. The twenty lap race started with twenty three cars and as expected there was a heap of cars fighting for position in the opening turns with the Storer brothers Daniel and Luke leading Ash Hounsfield and Brendon Wedge. Hounsfield did his best to split the middle of the two Storer’s, with Wedge following him through, but the yellows came on with just one lap complete as Dean Gittos lost a tyre. This would see Storer and Storer lead for the restart, but the real focus was on the officials as they tried to remove the Gittos tyre from the track, firstly the quad bike running over and getting stuck on top of the tyre, then another official slipping over as he attempted to kick it off track! As the race resumed, the Storer’s would lead, but Sam Borlini would then spin with just one more lap complete, seeing the yellows back on again very quickly. The yellows were on again for another spun car a lap later, but the next restart would see a three lap stanza, the two Storers leading Hounsfield a merry dance, until Hounsfield grabbed second from Luke. The yellows would come on as that lap was complete, this time for Jye McKenzie who came to a stop in turn two. Daniel Storer would lead away Ash Hounsfield and Luke Storer, with Luke quickly making his way back into second on the restart as fellow Victorian Weel would arrive on the scene. Further back some of the mid pack group came to grief but all were able to continue on as back up front the Storer boys built a decent gap, with Wheel then grabbing third with six laps to go. Chad Pittard and Brad Fitzgerald then closed on Hounsfield for fourth, with Luke Storer just starting to slow with a flat tyre as Tom Britton went for a ride down the back straight with just two laps remaining. This would set up a green, white, chequer finish and Weel went low as Storer went high, Weel grabbing the lead as the white flag flew, then going on to claim the win. Daniel Storer would hold on for second while Chad Pittard and Brad Fitzgerald both passing Hounsfield in the dying stages to round out the minors. Despite fading in the dying stages, Ash Hounsfield still leads the Red Pepper Promotions Track championship by fifty six points over Chad Pittard with Brendon Wedge fourteen markers further back in third. Wingless Sprints will be back in action tomorrow night for a small show at Collie Speedway before the biggest show of the season, the Australian Wingless Sprint Championship to be held at Kalgoorlie Speedway next weekend. 16.01.2022 Good Field for Motorplex Battle A good field of twenty one cars have nominated for this weekend’s event at the Perth Motorplex, which will be the fifth round of... the Red Pepper Promotions Track Championship and the eighth round of the KeenQuip Championship Series for the division. With just this Saturday night and the 21st of February left prior to the National Title in Kalgoorlie, drivers will be pulling out all the stops to gain momentum heading into the biggest event on the calendar and with numbers increasing, it makes the job that much harder. Last weekend it was Victorian Luke Storer who stole the glory from the locals as they competed at the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway, and this weekend he is in the field at the Motorplex along with fellow Victorian Daniel Storer. Luke already has a feature win at the Motorplex under his belt so would love to add another one and both drivers can be expected to throw a cat amongst the pigeons in Saturday night’s feature race. Ash Hounsfield currently leads the Track Championship having scored a win and two second places from the previous four events at the Motorplex and he will be keen to extend his thirty four point gap over Brendon Wedge, who has a win, a second and a third place to his name at the venue so far this season. Chad Pittard is currently third and hasn’t been outside the top five in feature races at the Motorplex this summer so is a real contender, while last start (Track Championship) winner Daran Humfrey and Daniel Keen, who claimed the mid-week victory at the Motorplex exactly a month ago and was on the podium again last weekend at Collie), are both in with a real chance at victory again this weekend. Add in Jake Robinson, who grabbed his first ever podium finish last month, Brad Fitzgerald, who was on the podium at last weekends show, and Matty Fellowes, who currently holds down fourth place in the Red Pepper Promotions Perth Motorplex Track Championship amongst a stack of others and it is sure to be another great night of action from the Wingless Sprints. On track action starts from 4.30pm on Saturday, with the first of four eight lap Wingless heats scheduled for 6pm and the twenty lap feature slated from around 8.40pm. Release by DTN Media. 16.01.2022 Brendon Bounces Back! For the first time in around nine months, Brendon Wedge has found himself on the top step of the podium once again! Wedge, whose last feat...ure win was at Manjimup in March, raced his way to a solid victory tonight at the Perth Motorplex, the third of his career at the venue and his first there since December 2016. Ash Hounsfield, courtesy of two heat wins, qualified off pole for the fifteen lap feature, while Collie feature winner Tyson Bryden continued his good form with a heat win and a third to be on the front row alongside Hounsfield. Wedgie, as he is affectionately known, would come from position three after a second and a third in his heats, alongside Cody Dobinson who did a great job in his return to racing. As the race went green it was Hounsfield who jumped immediately into the lead, Wedge pursuing him and the duo tailed by Bryden in third place. Wedge piled the pressure on Hounsfield for a number of laps, eventually making his move and taking the lead on lap five. From here Wedge was never headed, the top three order remaining unchanged. Behind them though, Chad Pittard, Tom Britton and finally Matty Fellowes all took turns in fourth place, Fellowes eventually getting the nod as the chequers flew. Courtesy of tonight’s results, Hounsfield still leads the Perth Motorplex Track Championship, now by a margin of nineteen points over Wedge, with team mate Chad Pittard eight points further back in third. Of course, this could all change in a matter of days! 15.01.2022 Kyle Mock Makes History in Kalgoorlie Kyle Mock has tonight made history, by becoming the first driver from the New South Wales to claim the Australian Wingless... Sprint Championship at the Watson’s Express Kalgoorlie International Speedway. Luke Storer and Kyle Mock would start the forty lap championship decider on the front row, with Storer making the best of the start and leading the twenty car field through the first lap. Further back in the field, the winner of the B-Main, Matthew Iwanow started to make his charge from seventeenth position. Daniel Storer started from position six and sat behind Peter Logue for a number of laps, but couldn’t quite find a way past, while South Australian Mitchell Broome and West Australians Tyson Bryden, Chad Pittard and Ash Hounsfield wanted to be part of the action in what was becoming a race for fifth. With Luke Storer continuing to lead, Kyle Mock started to mount his attack for the race lead, diving to the inside of Storer on a number of occasions. Luke Weel watched on behind, as the leading trio began to catch lapped traffic. Weel began to close in on Storer and Mock as Matty Fellowes went a lap down. The yellow lights would soon come on, as James Bissaker spun in turn two, which also saw the demise of Tom Britton who suffered a mechanical failure and rolled in turn three. Luke Storer lead the field away once again, with Kyle Mock continuing to stalk him behind. Matthew Iwanow and Brendon Wedge who transferred from the B-Main earlier were on a charge through the field, and moved towards the top ten of the field. It wasn’t long before Kyle Mock made his charge, passing Luke Storer in turns one and two to take the lead. Storer tried to fight back, but had to settle for second at that point in time. With only six laps remaining, the red lights came on as Matthew Iwanow rolled on the main straight in a mighty fashion. When the green lights came back on, it was Kyle Mock who continued to lead from Luke Storer and Luke Weel. Daniel Keen as he had done all race, sat in the fourth, as Bunbury WA duo Chad Pittard and Ash Hounsfield tried everything to get past Peter Logue. Kyle Mock wouldn’t be headed from this point and crossed the line, defeating Victorian’s Luke Storer and Luke Weel, while West Australian Daniel Keen would finish fourth ahead of Victorian Peter Logue who managed to hold on for fifth. Earlier in the night, Chad Pittard, Tony Moule and Travis Evans recorded heat race victories in the final three qualifying heats, with the final heat of the night proving to be a thriller, as Jake Robinson, Ash Hounsfield and Tyson Bryden raced the entire ten laps in close proximity trying to record a win in an Australian Championship. The top three cars will now undergo further scrutineering by AWSR officials. At the conclusion of this, official results will be posted on the AWSR Facebook Page and website. 14.01.2022 Massive Field for Des Nash Memorial This weekend marks the last chance for drivers to have a run prior to the Australian Title at Kalgoorlie and drivers have re...sponded in kind, desperate to get a few more laps under their belt and to be on the front foot heading into the title weekend, with nearly thirty nominations received. Friday nights event at the Perth Motorplex will also be the Des Nash Memorial and in addition to twenty six local cars, there are three interstaters in the field, meaning it is going to be a huge show. Des was a speedway stalwart whose legacy still holds strong within Australian Wingless Sprint Racing today. He was one of the founding members of the AWSR, becoming Vice President in its second year, a position he held until his passing. He was also a former State Technical Representative. Nash’s commitment and dedication to Wingless Sprints played a huge part in the betterment of the class over the years, not only through his work behind the scenes, but also by helping to introduce fellow racers to the class and offering his assistance wherever needed, which is why this weekend’s event has been named after him and there is 3K on the line for the winner! As if we needed more incentive, this weekend is made even more exciting in the fact that there is any number of drivers that could claim the win, while a couple of rookie drivers will make their first appearances, adding even more spice to what is sure to already be a massive event! There have been twelve events held so far this year, with eight different winners and of those eight, seven of them are nominated for Friday night’s showdown. Ash Hounsfield has won two main events so far this summer, both at the Perth Motorplex including the last show there earlier this month and courtesy of those results he also leads the Perth Motorplex, Red Pepper Promotions Track Championship. He will not only be looking to go back to back this weekend but also extend his lead in that Championship series and put all the other competitors on notice that come title time he is going to be a real contender. Chad Pittard, Brendon Wedge, Daniel Keen and Daran Humfrey have all each won a feature at the Motorplex this season, with Pittard and Wedge in particular recording strong results that see them currently sitting second and third respectively in the Track Championship. They too will be looking to assert their dominance while Keen and Humfrey will also be hoping to return to the top step of the podium. Victorian visitors Luke and Daniel Storer have also made their presence felt in WA in the last few weeks, with Luke claiming the win at Collie a few weeks back, then both filling the podium out at the Motorplex in the last show. They will be joined by fellow Victorian Luke Weel this Friday night and the three drivers will be looking to show the West Aussie guns exactly who they are messing with come feature time. Tyson Bryden is another who has already claimed a feature win this season and would love another, while other names like Dean Gittos, Brad Fitzgerald, Matty Fellowes, Matt Iwanow and Jake Robinson amongst others have also shown that they too are capable of strong results through the season and a win in the Des Nash Memorial would certainly increase their credibility in the field and set them in good stead for the Title weekend. Rookie Blake Iwanow has been impressing in his first few runs in the Wingless Sprints and this weekend he will be joined by another former Junior Sedan competitor in Bradley Oldfield. Both Blake and Bradley are two of only three drivers to have ever claimed two WA Junior Sedan Titles (both back to back!) so the transition to Wingless Sprints will be an interesting one to watch for both youngsters. Kieran Norman will also make his first appearance this weekend in Wingless Sprints while other newer drivers including Brad Howell, Jye McKenzie, Gareth Smith, Stephen Hughes and Shane Thomas are all also in the field and looking to make their mark come feature time. It will be a huge meeting this Friday night so make sure you are at the Perth Motorplex! Release by DTN Media. Pics courtesy Peter Roebuck. 12.01.2022 Humfrey Bounces Back! Just two nights after crashing out of the Boxing Day event, Daran Humfrey has burned the midnight oil and made the effort all worth it as ...he dominated proceedings at the Perth Motorplex to win every race en route to claiming victory in the feature event. Humfrey claimed wins in both his heats to start on the front row, starting alongside Track Championship leader Ash Hounsfield who had a win and a second place in the heats. All but one car would start the feature, rookie Brad Howell succumbing to issues that plagued him through the heat races. As the race went green Humfrey got the initial lead, running the lowline while Hounsfield ran the top in second place. Third place was a battle between father and son, Paul running the lowline while his offspring Jake ran the highline. Lap three saw Tyson Bryden and last start winner Brendon Wedge pass Paul, but up front it was Humfrey leading the field a merry dance, building up a decent gap on Hounsfield, who in turn had a decent gap back to the battling trio of Jake Robinson, Wedge and Bryden. Cody Dobinson would then bring on the first and only yellow light of the night as he spun in turn two with six laps complete. Humfrey led away again at the restart, with Wedge making the most of the stoppage to grab third. Chad Pittard then began using the highline to move into sixth, then passed Bryden for fifth and half a lap later Robinson for fourth. With five laps to go Humfrey again had a commanding lead, Hounsfield and Wedge were trailing behind, followed by Pittard persisting on the highline and beginning to close the gap. The order from here remained unchanged, Humfrey completing a perfect night and claiming the win, his third in three seasons, which in itself is an impressive streak. Hounsfield came home second to bank a whole pile of points towards the Championship while Wedge was third. After tonight’s event, Hounsfield still leads the Red Pepper Promotions Perth Motorplex Track Championship by 34 points over Brendon Wedge with Chad Pittard six points further back in third after four completed rounds. The Wingless Sprints will be back in action in just a few days’ time, this time heading down the highway as they compete for the WA1 at Bunbury Speedway! 10.01.2022 Wingless Wars Continue Just two nights after the Boxing Day show and three days before the WA Title, the Wingless brigade will once again return to the race tra...ck, back at the Perth Motorplex tomorrow night for the Muster event. The event, which will also be round six of the KeenQuip Championship Series, has attracted a solid twenty car field once again, with two omissions and two additions from the Boxing Day show: David Worrall and Stephen Hughes not in the field but Sam Borlini and Daniel Keen coming in. After last nights show, Brendon Wedge will be full of confidence, claiming a solid win and moving into second in the Red Pepper Promotions Perth Motorplex Track Championship. Wedge has been right on the pace all season so to break through for the win last night could well open the flood gates for the next few events, inspiring plenty of confidence and especially ahead of the WA Title. Ash Hounsfield has had a feature win and three podium finishes across the Wingless season so far and currently leads the Perth Motorplex Track Championship. He was undefeated at the last show until coming home second to Wedge in the feature so he will be keen to exact a measure of revenge come feature time tomorrow night. Tyson Bryden has been on a bit of a tear in recent weeks and on a night where he debuted a new paint scheme, he also backed up his feature win from the last show with a third place finish. He will be looking to continue that form tomorrow night. Others including Matty Fellowes and Chad Pittard had solid feature finishes at the last show so will be keen to back those up again on Saturday night, while names like Tom Britton, Jake and Paul Robinson and James Bissaker will be hoping to record some better results this time out. Rookies Gareth Smith and Brad Howell did a great job to finish the feature last night and should get even better with more laps under their belt while Daran Humfrey is in a race against time to get his machinery repaired after an accident in an early heat race last night. Racing begins from 6pm tomorrow, with four heats of Wingless scheduled (two per driver) prior to the fifteen lap feature event. Release by DTN Media. Pics courtesy Peter Roebuck. 10.01.2022 It’s Wingless Warfare! With just a handful of shows remaining for season 2019/20, the Wingless Sprints will this weekend return to the Perth Motorplex for the f...inal round of battle in the season long Track Championship. Just a fortnight removed from the epic National Title, a good field of seventeen cars have nominated for this weekend, with a number of drivers making their first appearances of the season while others are looking to consolidate their positions in the point score and close the Motorplex season on a high in what will also be the annual Silver Cup event. This will be the eighth time the Silver Cup event will be held for Wingless Sprints and with not one single former winner in the field, we are assured to add a new name to the honour board. Victorian Luke Storer is the man who won the race last year but he has headed home after the Australian Title, opening the door wide for someone else to take the Cup home. Focusing back on the Track Championship and Ash Hounsfield is in the box seat, with a solid fifty six point buffer coming into the final night in the Track Championship standings and with two wins and two other podium finishes from the six shows at the venue (a fourth and a fifth his other two finishes) he is looking to round out his season with another win. Chad Pittard is currently in second place overall while Brendon Wedge is just fourteen points further back in third and with a total of 210 points on offer, either of these drivers could potentially pass Hounsfield in the standings if they have a little luck go their way. Brad Fitzgerald, Jake Robinson, Daran Humfrey and Matty Fellowes have all had solid seasons and could well get another good result come feature time, while others including Blake Iwanow, Gareth Smith, Brad Howell and Bradley Oldfield are newer to the division and are enjoying getting laps under their belts. Add in a whole host of other names and this has the potential to be one of the best races this season. Wingless Sprints will have three eight lap heats this weekend (each driver contesting two), followed by a fifteen lap feature to round out their season of competition at the Perth Motorplex. 10.01.2022 Congratulations Kye and Mitchell on there National Title wins. Great work Jason and the team at Moyle Engines and Race Parts for proving great motors.

08.01.2022 Storer Claims Collie Victory! Victorian Luke Storer has headed West early in his pursuit for the National Title and it is already paying off after he claimed th...e feature tonight at the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway. Storer progressively got better during the night, claiming fourth in the opening heat, third in the second and then the win in the final heat to start the feature race on pole. Twelve of the original starters took the green in the fifteen lap feature race, with Chad Pittard hitting the line first but Storer quickly grabbed the lead and would be in front on the opening lap. Brad Fitzgerald moved into second and Daniel Keen into third. Keen would then grab second on lap five, a lap later setting the quickest lap of the race to that point as he set out after Storer. Lapped traffic would then place a part, Tyson Bryden riding a wheel and lucky not to upend his model as he came around to pass the slower car, but back up front Storer was beginning to pull away, setting the quickest lap of the race on his eleventh circulation. Behind him, Keen, Fitgerald and Pittard were locked in a battle but it made little difference, Storer claiming a strong win, over two and a half seconds ahead of second placed Keen, with Fitzgerald, Pittard and Kyle Beard rounding out the top five. 07.01.2022 Bunbury, Western Australia's Chad Pittard is prepared and ready to go for Night 1 of the 2020 Australian Wingless Sprint Championship. It's only about 2 hours until racing kicks off here in Kalgoorlie.

03.01.2022 Payet Makes It Five! Tom Payet has tonight cemented himself as one of the all-time greats of Wingless Sprint racing here in Western Australia, claiming his fift...h WA Title in six years, in what was a great race at the Bunbury Speedway. Twenty one of the twenty two cars who started the night would start the thirty lap final, with only Brad Fitzgerald unable to make it after coming to grief in his final heat. Surprisingly an incident in heat two where Matty Fellowes spun, then was hit by Tom Payet who helicoptered and Daran Humfrey then also piled in and rolled, no one else was eliminated. As the feature race went green it would be Matt Iwanow, coming from position two, who beat pole sitter Ash Hounsfield off the line, leading through the opening turns as Hounsfield got swallowed up by the chasing pack, passed by fourth place starter Brendon Wedge and then under pressure from Payet and third place starter Dean Gittos. Iwanow led Wedge, while Hounsfield and Payet were side by side for a number of laps, with the rest of the field chasing hard, headed by Gittos. Wedge closed on Iwanow, Iwanow using mid track and Wedge on the inside line, then on lap five Wedge got underneath and grabbed the lead but on lap six Iwanow got back by to retake the lead. All of a sudden Iwanow, Wedge and Payet were locked in a three car battle, then half a lap later they were joined by Gittos, Hounsfield and Bryden, a six car battle for the lead. Unfortunately, it didn’t last long, Bryden riding a wheel coming into turn three, hitting the fence and tipping upside down to bring on the red lights. As the greens flew again Iwanow would lead away Wedge, Payet and Hounsfield, the top four pulling away quickly. Wedge went slightly high into turn three on lap eleven which allowed Payet to sneak through, the top four still pulling away from the remainder of the field. Payet had a go at Iwanow on lap fourteen but wasn’t able to make the move, however a lap later he pulled the move off, leading at the halfway point. Wedge would also get by Iwanow, but Payet was a man on a mission, pulling away quickly away from the rest as fifth placed Chad Pittard closed the gap on Hounsfield. With nine laps complete the red lights came on again as Russell Seery found himself upside down in the exact same place Bryden was earlier on. Again, the race resumed, and up front the order remained unchanged, but on Iwanow’s tail Hounsfield and Pittard were going at it for fourth, the order changing between the two a number of times. Pittard then drew alongside Iwanow, who went very high and lost positions to both Pittard and Hounsfield with three to go, then retired infield shortly after. This left Tom Payet up front all alone and despite Wedge’s best efforts, he was unable to make a move, Payet going on to record yet another title win. Wedge claimed his second WA Title podium finish in second while Pittard was third, followed by Hounsfield and former champion Daniel Keen rounding out the top five. It was another great race meeting and a huge thankyou to all those at Bunbury Speedway, including the huge crowd in attendance, and a bit congratulations to our Wingless place getters.
