25.01.2022 Did you know that strength training is particularly helpful in older age? It is never too late to start!! Research has shown it improves: bone density peripheral vascular disease diabetes... blood pressure arthritis depression falls/balance and frailty leading to improved independence and vitality. It is also in most cases very safe to do. Book a Telehealth consultation with us and we can show you how! We can even be creative with the things you already have around the house if you don't own equipment. Focusing on what we CAN do right now and our own HEALTH is so important. We are all certainly feeling the impact of missing out on the things we normally like to do. In taking a small step towards working on your own health and building some more strength and mobility in your body, you might find your mind and wellbeing benefits just as much too We are open for urgent face-to-face consultations only during Stage 4 (but not for routine care). If you feel your condition is urgent please call us to go through an urgency phone assessment to determine how we may be able to assist you. Telehealth video consultations are always available. We can give you advice, new exercises and self-management strategies to keep you tracking along with your rehab until your next in-clinic appointment. We are here for you so please call us if you need to chat or would like some advice - 0435 995 728.

22.01.2022 We are all washing our hands regularly, but are you doing it effectively? Heres a reminder from WHO on how best to do it. If you havent watched this yet please do, its more involved than you might think! Stay safe https://youtu.be/y7e8nM0JAz0
21.01.2022 A lot of us are now suddenly working from home and don't always have a functionally designed home office space. The key to reducing pain in prolonged postures such as sitting or working at a computer, is varying your position regularly to reduce fatigue, sore muscles, tight joints and eye strain. So make sure you are getting up out of your chair at least every 30 minutes and move around. For a more long term solution, contact Pivotal Osteopathy to organise a Telehealth consult to assess your home office setup, advise on how to improve your work posture and provide a tailored exercise program. Ph: 0435 995 728.
21.01.2022 In these uncertain times it was so nice to be able to get out again in nature yesterday, feeling the sunshine and breathing in the fresh air in the forest. Our hikes are looking a little different these days but we still love it! How are you keeping active?
20.01.2022 The DHHS advice has been updated today to reflect that all allied health care, including Osteopathic treatment, are closed for routine and non-urgent face-to-face appointments for the duration of Melbourne's Stage 4 lockdown. What does this mean? We can only provide URGENT face-to-face treatment. Urgent means that the absence or delay of our care would result in a significant deterioration of your condition necessitating specialist review or you presenting to an emergency de...partment. If you feel you have an urgent case, you may call us on 0435 995 728 and we will discuss with you your options for accessing an urgent face-to-face appointment within the next 24 hours (these appointments cannot be booked online). A medical referral is no longer needed to visit an Osteopath during Stage 4 lockdown as we had reported yesterday. Any appointments that have been pre-booked with us during the lockdown period will be cancelled and we will contact you to reschedule these for after 13th September. Online bookings are still available for after the lockdown period, but not during it. Telehealth is still always an available option to you for management during the lockdown. We understand this will be disappointing news to hear; however, the greater public health effort in the restriction of movement in our community of every individual is imperative right now in saving lives and fighting the COVID-19 pandemic in Melbourne. We thank you for your understanding and ongoing support. Matt and Eliska, Pivotal Osteopathy

18.01.2022 National Stroke Week, 31 August-6 September Think FAST Act FAST: FACE Check their face. Has their mouth drooped?... ARMS Can they lift both arms? SPEECH Is their speech slurred? Do they understand you? TIME Is critical. If you see any of these signs call 000 straight away. A stroke is always a medical emergency. Call 000 if you suspect a stroke. The longer a stroke remains untreated, the greater the chance of stroke-related brain damage. 07.01.2022 We are very sad to have to let you know that we have come to a decision to temporarily cease face-to-face consultations indefinitely, effective immediately due to the coronavirus pandemic. If you have an upcoming appointment we will contact you directly. Please understand that we have not come to this decision lightly. We feel that due to the close contact and long durations of our hands-on work, we are not able to fully protect you from exposure to COVID-19, despite the rigo...rous hygiene measures we have been adhering to. Allied health practitioners like us are considered an essential service by the government because of our ability to take some strain off the health system. At this time, we feel the risk to our vulnerable patients, the community and ourselves is now at a level we are no longer comfortable with. We have decided that we can better support the efforts towards flattening the curve and protecting our community by offering our services in a different way. We will be keeping everyone updated with how these services will be offered in the near future, including government announcements of access to new services. This is such an upsetting and challenging time for all our families for so many reasons and we as a community have never truly been tested like this before. We want to assure you that we are still here to support you in whatever way that we can. Take care of yourselves and your loved ones, wash your hands often, only go out if you need to and we will get through this together. Please feel free to still contact us on 0435 995 728 or at [email protected]. Sincerely, Matthew & Eliska

03.01.2022 Some good news...in the next step, from 28th September*, we can provide face-to-face Osteopathy consultations if you meet one of these criteria: It is needed to prevent a significant deterioration in functional independence (such as significant increase in pain or substantial increase in recovery time as a result of delayed care), Your treatment has been delayed during the Stage 4 restrictions and further delay would likely result in further deterioration, You require... pre-operative or post-operative elective surgery care. . If this applies to you, and you are a current return patient of our clinic, you can book your appointment online through our NEW website for after 28/9/20. Bookings can be made directly from the home page, www.pivotalosteo.com.au, or give us a call to book. If you are a new patient to our clinic, please call us on 0435995728 to discuss your case and make an appointment as Initial Consultations cannot be booked online. . We know so many of you will be really relieved to hear this news and have been in a lot of pain through this lockdown. We look forward to being able to help you again in the clinic really soon. . We are currently still in Stage 4 restrictions for this week until 27/9, where we can only offer face-to-face Osteopathy appointments in URGENT cases. Please call us on 0435995728 if you think your case is urgent and we will see if you meet the criteria to access an emergency appointment. * Date is subject to change by DHHS.
02.01.2022 Stage 4 Restriction Update: the extension of the current restrictions apply to all Allied Health Clinics until the 28th September. This means we can provide: Telehealth Osteopathic consultations and In-clinic Osteopathic appointments in urgent cases... We understand that some of you have been holding out for treatment with the expectation you would be able to access a hands-on Osteopathic treatment from this week, so this might mean you feel that your level of urgency may have changed recently. So if you feel that you need a face-to-face appointment please call us to discuss your individual circumstances and we can assess your situation through the guidelines set out by the DHHS. We hope it won't be too much longer before we can offer routine care to you again. Pivotal Osteopathy 0435 995 728
01.01.2022 Never has there been a better time to address the importance of good breathing technique. Breathing efficiently using your diaphragm has been shown to improve your functional movement. Focusing on belly breathing or diaphragmatic breathing can also help settle your sympathetic nervous system which can help you focus better and reduce stress (something we could all do with at the moment). ... Just a couple of minutes a day of mindful belly breathing and you will notice the positive effects. Our Osteopath Dr. Matthew Healy wrote a blog post on our website explaining breathing mechanics in more detail, find it here: https://www.pivotalosteo.com.au//control-your-movement-co/ Although we're not currently consulting face-to-face, we're still here if you need some health advice, please call Pivotal Osteopathy on 0435 995 728.
